Any pick we can realistically acquire in the top 15-20? Which teams are looking to compete immediately and don't need the draft capital? Buffalo? Ottawa?

What would we offer?
Ottawa doesn't have a first. Its Arizonas, unless they win the lottery.

Vancouver is the big one, they stated they want young players ready to play.

Buffalo, they would look for a RD, the Habs dont have it.
Detroit but Y is savvy. Anderson and Matheson are possible.
Pittsburgh for sure. I doubt theyd take back Matheson, but lol.
Flames too. Nothing we have to offer, IMO.

Smith, Leonard and Perreault with a combined 43 points in 4 games.....good lord.

For comparisons sake, Hughes, Zegras and Caufield had a combined 47 points in 7 games at the U18's in 2019 (Zegras played only 5 games though).

Caufield had 14 goals in 7 games in that tournament.

2019 team were in a way better division though. Russia, Slovakia & Sweden were in that group. U.S.'s group this year is complete crap.

Calum Ritchie is having a great game for Canada against the Czechs.
Said it before, but will say it again, one of my favorite I believe he's underrated and could be a much more productive player than he's shown this season.

However, with where our picks are currently slotted, I can't see how we could draft him

Redpill me on Gabe Perreault. Dude has monster stats, yet is ranked at the bottom-tier of the first round. What deficiencies does he have?

haters will say skating and size.

People think he's a product of the line he plays in, but he's legit. It's hard to believe the USNDTP is developping quality offense at such an alarming rate these past few years, but they are.

People who whine about Perreault's skating and would pee their pants of excitement to draft Leo Carlsson.

There's always the undersized remark too but he's similar sized than Smith and Leonard and bigger then Michkov, Benson and Bedard

Isn't he like 6ft?

I saw him play these past few days and there's no way in hell he's out of the top 10. Dvorsky fans probably at it again.

I know we shouldn't put a lot of stock at these short tournaments, but still impressive that around half of the top 20 at the U18s went on to be superstars at the NHL level.

Wouldn't be surprised if we see both Smith and Perrault at the top of the list if they can go far in the tournament.

The craziest stat? Michkov in the top 10 while he was 16 at the time.

If Michkov is able to be interviewed by the top drafting teams, and is able to attend the pre-draft workout in Buffalo and openly
reaffirm his intentions of joining the NHL.
If that were the case, the Habs can reassess
their strategy going forward as it pertains to our top seven pick.
He has already said he hopes to join the NHL some day. I don't see why he needs to attend the pre-draft workout in Buffalo or how that is relevant to whether or not he comes over after his contract is done in 3 years.

You don't think it might be a little bit relevant if he comes to the combine and attend the draft ?

No. Especially not at the level of importance you seem to be giving it.

He cannot come until his contract is done no matter what. If he's able to come now tells us nothing about where Russia, the war, status of KHL and NHL relations etc. will be in 3 years. So yeah, I think its completely irrelevant.
