Trade #5 + #37
for
Detroit : #9 + #18

Let's say Mitchov is available and Detroit really wants him

#9 : Reinbacher / Dvorsky
#17 : Yager / Pellikka (if Reinbacher was gone before #9)
#18 : Wood / Perreault
Would need Michkov to be there and Detroit to really like him, but that's interesting.

would definitely consider this long and hard, especially if ownership has a hard no on Michkov

Between 5 to 9 there's Smith/Benson/Reinbacher/Leonard which honestly I wouldn't be surprised if we picked either at 5, so from 5 to 9, I'm game to move Down.

I wouldn't expect Yager and Wood to be available however at 17, 18 but if they were, you grab them and run.

In all honestly the flip I try here is 5 and 17 for 7 and 12 to the Coyotes, at 12 there are extremely appealing picks which i fear will be long gone by 16.

Yeah, Guhle is among the best skaters on the backend in the league.

It’s what makes him so effective at transitioning the puck so effortlessly in the NHL at such a young age. Wait until his skills develop further and his IQ adapt to the NHL speed. This is a first pairing caliber D man

Is Guhle a better skater than Matheson?

Maybe in a straight line... But Matheson looks smoother. Matheson is one of the smoothest skating defensemen I've seen play for the Habs recently. He needs a car nickname ASAP, like Matheston Martin, or Matherati. I might spend a few bucks calling JiC's show just to pitch nicknames.

In the 2022-2023 season, as tracked by the NHL, amongst ALL NHL PLAYERS, Guhle had 2 different instances where he reached a top-speed fast enough to place him in the top 10.

Can it be argued that other defensemen are just as fast but they just didn’t have the opportunity or the open ice to go full throttle? Sure.

It doesn’t change the fact that Guhle was faster that all other NHL defence men, other than Fehervary in the 2022-2023 season.

Now, top speed is not necessary the best indication of skating ability, but it can’t be denied Guhle is fast as f***.

All these tests are flawed, what matters is acceleration and fluidity for a D. Guhle is good, he's just not an elite skater like Dahlin is.

Anyone have any early predictions of who's gonna have a standout performance at the U18s?

I have a feeling Barlow's going to have a strong tournament.

It's literally measured speed in game. He's not the best overall skater in the league or even on his own d core but he's fast as f*** in a straight line. No one is arguing what aspect of skating is more important or whatever you're going on about. What a weird thing to argue about.

Benson sets up the OT winner on the PP. Series 2-2.

Yager/Firkus had the better of Savoie/Benson the majority of the night. Savoie mostly invisible, Benson a bit of a mixed bag. Firkus was the best player on the ice and Yager handled his shutdown role well.

Both Benson and Yager had their chances to pot 1-2 each. Benson was stoned on a breakaway and hit a crossbar. Yager also hit a crossbar and missed a couple clear chances from the slot. Not the most open game ever, but both showed why they're ranked where they are.

This narrative that we have fast players needs to go away, one of the problems in this team is a very significant lack of speed and mobility. If you don't like the discussion, stop complaining about it and skip it.

Guhle and Caufield are a low standard in terms of having great mobility and this is why Yager is interesting.

He's not Dahlin at all. We have such low standards for speed.
What are you even arguing ? That Guhle is not fast ? Wtf lol.

Sometimes you have such good arguments and other times you just dig your heels in and look like a friggin fool, like right now. Guhle is just flat out fast. He can move.
Biggest hitters amongst the forwards in this draft ?
Id say probably Leonard ? Maybe Stramel ? I don't know, not a lot of those guys. Kaland Lind but his upside is limited IMO, same with Stramel.

Not the biggest but Bedard, Fantilli and Carlsson are all solid physically.

Ive seen Wood throw the body some in games and he does tend to get fired up at times but I dont think thats his game. Heidt has been suspended twice for dangerous hits, he likes to pick his spot kinda like Marchand and Kadri, valuable if hes not so stupid. Ive seen Musty completely dominate guys physically, but not unlike Heidt, he then turns around and just is the softest player ever.

Svoboda is an underrated pick, he seems like a grinder through and through.

Gauthier is also physical but not really a big hitter.

Overall, theres no one right now.

Ostapchuk deflect a Benson shot to score in OT!

That wasn't a deflection lol, that was a pass on the tape to score. Insane accuracy by Benson.

I’ve heard people compare Benson to Marner. Please tell me Benson has more grit and grind to his game then Marner…
Benson is like a high end Zuccarello more than a Marner. He definitely does have grit and grind in his game.

I'd add Zach Nehring to the (underrated) list. I've had limited viewings but he caught my attention by throwing hard checks and using his size to create space for himself and his linemates.

He's flying under the radar since he's playing in Prep school and therefore is a bit trickier to project but I really like him in the mid rounds. He could be a good complimentary power forward with the right development.

Lind though is probably the pound for pound in this draft. He's an absolute maniac on the ice lol
