Do these lists actually influence NHL teams?

What's good: Benson seems to be going down (would love to have Benson at 5 or 6)

What's bad: Dvorsky seems to be going up (hope this doesn't influence our top pick)

I’m hoping we nab Benson at 5.

Dvorsky is one of my worst cases for #5. It’s not that I don’t like the player, but it reeks of doubling down on the Slafkovsky pick to try and create a “duo” out of them. If things work out, we’d look smart. But I was never a fan of the Slaf pick and I question Dvorsky’s upside much like I did Slaf’s.

Dvorsky didn't really go up, one spot at most, ASP just dropped.

One thing for sure, Habs will have a great prospect. Potential A grade (depend if it's between Benson, Smith, Leonard or Reinbacher, they are all A grade to me). Yager maybe more A-, but have potential to be a A. Dvorsky B+ potential to be higher.

Top 4 are A+, Bedard is A++ generationnal.

I really hope that somehow the Habs add a second round pick. I would love to pick a goalie in the second round but I have a feeling that their will be a first round talent that slips to the Habs with their own pick in the second round.

Adding a late 1st is more important than a another 2nd. I think Habs will ecstatic to grab a player like Honzek or Musty with their late pick. They want size and skill, Musty and Honzek fit perfectly on that. I'm high on both and if Habs add another 1st... Musty can be there. Honzek... I would select him with Florida pick, high potential, really skilled for a big guy. They are both great wildcard in this draft with Matthew Wood (only issue is his skating).

Not going to lie, I haven't seen much if Wood aside from highlights and read a few reports, but I wouldn't be mad if the Habs take him at 5/6/7.

He'd definitely a top 10 guy and just now it won't be viewed as a surprise, or taken him because he's 6'3, looks like agencies think he has legitimate top 10 talent.

Definitely not at 5 or 6

CrIstall at 15th for North American skaters is pretty wild.

Besides for him and Dvorsky, what other guys could be back in the conversation of being a top 10 pick if they have a strong showing at the U18s?

Has Wood improved his skating during this season? Because last I read, he had stone feet.
His skating is really bad but he is a big kid and you often see bigger kids make more significant improvements to their skating as they gain strength and are more comfortable with their bodies that are no longer growing. I think Wood has such a huge upside that he might surprise some people by going really early in the draft. He has the hands/IQ/creativity/vision and shot/release to be a bona fide star if he can sort his feet out.

So most people here have Benson > Smith? I haven't watched much of either so just a pure DB scout here. So would we really pass on a 6', 2-way centre, who racked up 42pts in 20gp? That's an insane number for the US Dev Team.

I think most have it neck and neck between Benson/Smith.

It seems like Smith probably has a slightly higher potential ceiling, but he's also more likely to be a bust due to his lack of defensive play.

Smith is definitely not a two-way center. He's one-way. There's a lot of work for him to do to understand the defensive side of the game, like a lot of work. He might be better off on wing due to his defensive deficiencies.

from what i read Smith is far from a 2 way center

That's normal, he is a offensive C. But he can develop his defensive game, don't worry about that. He isn't Patrice Bergeron, but with a good development... he have all tools to become a 1st line C or 1st line winger. PPG potential, for sure. If Habs have a chance to draft him and they choose another player, I just want they know what they doing... because Will Smith has a immense potential.
