From what i've been told from other Russians, drowning is common in Russia, due to people getting drunk and going outside to piss and falling or passing out near water or freezing to death. I never looked it up to see if it was true though.
Unlikely to have frozen to death as its in Sochi, the climate there is humid sub-tropical, which is what you would find below the appalachian mountain and east of the missisipi river in the states.

Russians already in NA are fine. I think the biggest risk factor with drafting new ones is that 18 years have to do their military service in Russia and last year Russia just sent their new recruits to the war front...
FWIW, Teemu Selanne had to do his military service. Started in the NHL 4 years after being drafted.

As you said, the weather there is fairly nice in winter as it borders the Black Sea.

So many scenarios I’m drawing up in my head here.

They say Sochi but for all we know, it’s a village 10km away in the mountains and all of a sudden, it’s freezing.

If he was murdered, they’ll know right away. A drowning will normally have water in the lungs. For all we know, he may have walked down a dock, slipped, hit his head and knocked himself out, hence drowning.

Or maybe a heart attack and fell in the water.

Something tells me though that the authorities will be right there for the autopsy, and when i say authorities, I mean Putin’s people.

We may never know

Poor kid

Of he was murdered, it's a govt hit, this is the same govt that had an anti war pop star whacked last week. Thinking they'd investigate their own killing is comical.

It might be an accident, sure, I wouldn't bet on it. Organized crime, I doubt it, why kill him when you can kidnap him and extort tons of money.

Someone was saying, the odds were that he was planning to report to the draft and perhaps denounce his citizenship and not go back and his family was planning to travel out and also not go back. Their plans were uncovered and the 8 figure asset was told to stay still or mom is next.

This is all stipulation, but the list of business men killed the past year that tried to flee is astronomical, Matvei is the business, his worth is 8 figures, you don't kill him but you make sure he stays within the system and profits the KHL

Exactly what I thought at first. But hey, let’s wait and see what really happened 🙄

I suspect foul play, but i will not rule out accidentally or natural causes either.

Mitchell Martin has 1g 2 a for Kitchener.

Double overager, but at 6'4, might be a nice project and I'm sure the Habs have seen quite a bit of him.

Another draft eligible player playing extremely well is Nick Lardis, Hamilton Bulldogs.

Hamilton has no business being in this series versus Barrie who are far more talented, but they are working hard & gutting it out. Series is 2-2 as Hamilton won both home games.

Lardis is on 1st pk unit, 1st pp unit, out in last minute of game whether they need a goal or trying to prevent one. They are relying on him heavily.

Had 2g, 1a tonight. In 4 games, he has 3g, 4a for 7 pts. Kid loves to shoot. 21 shots over 4 games. He's a beautiful skater too.

He doesn't turn 18 til July.

This is after he put up 25 goals in only 33 games after trade to Hamilton. Kid can score.

And literally everyone would pick him 1st OA regardless of the missed 4 years.
Rest is history

Yep. Hes been in my top thirty for months now. 16th rn.

If we don't trade the Florida pick, he's my target for that pick now for sure. There simply isn't a real reason to keep him out of top 20.

1. He's one of the best skaters in this draft, which unfortunately actually features a lot of average to below average skaters in 1st round.

2. He can shoot the puck, and loves to shoot, but he isn't stupid about. He doesn't force shots. If the lane is there, he takes it. He's great at opening lanes for himself, and he'll dish it off if that's the best play.

3. He's solid defensively already. There's work to be done still, but he's picked up the basics, and is decent in using his stick on plays.

4. He goes to the boards. He's pretty weak there, and can sometimes get pushed off the puck a little too easily, so he needs to build up his strength. He does try to get his body involved in puck protection though. He just needs greater strength.

Yep, hes a burner, he has great hands, probably what... the fourth best shot in the draft? And hes an intense player.

Imo, hes like Brindley but with high end offensive tools. I really like him.

Its just a shame I havent seen him with the Petes before. Is he just really feeling himself right now and every thing is working?

He was behind a ton of veterans in Peterborough. Beck is essentially going through the same thing. That team is maxed out on overagers, and drafted players in their D+2 year. They'll be one of the worst teams in OHL next year, because they're losing about 12 guys including almost their entire defense.

It's just opportunity. He's on Hamilton's top line, and top PP unit. He gets double shifted if they need a goal. When I say they're relying on him, I mean they're really relying on him, like we rely on Suzuki. He's their go-to guy. In Peterborough, he was on 3rd line, and those opportunities went elsewhere.

An incredibly smart pickup by Hamilton.

Lardis is someone I havent watched yet, I love speedy players with brain and skills so he is next in line... Would you draft him over a guy like Moore?

Yeah I know how hes used, but still, you know slmetimes players go on tears when theyre trusted and they play a bit over their talent? I dont know, I trust Lardis and thats why Ive had him so far up for a while now.

I was curious as to how hed handle the POs, so far hes looking like hes even better than he was in the reg. With his size I expect him to fall to the 2nd, you know how teams are.

Hes one of my target at 17-18 though.

I have him 5 spots ahead of Moore and I dont think theres any debate. Hes just a better offensive player. While Moore is a better skater, Lardis may just be the 2nd best in the draft and hes got high skills all across the board.

His hands too are pretty special, the shot.

I hate doing this, but that guys Brayden Point if I ever saw Brayden Point.

I might. He has better hands, and a better shot. I have to think Lardis will be a major riser on the next set of lists. I can't see him not going in 1st round with his skating, hands and production. His compete level is solid too. He's not overly physical, but he gets in there. Doesn't shy away from contact.

Definitely needs to get stronger. He can get pushed off the puck pretty easily sometimes in board battles, but the effort is there.

The Hamilton-Barrie series has been really intense so far. I'm watching it because I wanted to see Lardis. He hasn't disappointed.

Beau Akey has been pretty good for Barrie too.

I find the majority of players in this 1st round either have suspect skating, suspect compete levels, or both, or are super small. Lardis stands as one of the few that doesn't fall into any of those categories, as does Moore, who I've liked all season.

He's not that small! 5'11. In a draft that features a ton of 5'9 players, he's practically a giant.

Is he a center or a winger?
Left shooting right winger.
