Is there a specific reason why Oliver Moore is only committed to Minnesota in 24-25? Could that encourage the team that drafts him to send him to Medicine Hat and go the WHL route?

Ideally I think he needs 2 years before making the jump anyway, but I wouldn't like the idea of him playing in the USHL next year.

A team cannot send him to the WHL....he would have to choose that route himself.

Sometimes USNTDP players play a year in the USHL before heading to college.
Yeah I've seen it before too, just wondering why that was. I currently rank him and Leonard pretty close and that could a factor that would make me go for Leonard.

Obviously, I just think a team could encourage him towards that decision.

His production is very high , why is he relatively low compared to his production ?

Doesnt play a pro game ? Size issue ?
Hes a very good player and he drives the play, but hes small, hes not fast, his shot isnt great, hes not physical, etc.

Like, you can draft production, but not in the top 10 IMO. His passing, vision, creativity and IQ might be top 5 in the draft, he rivals Benson in everything, but Benson plays a much more "pro" game that can be translated to, even, an offensive 3rd liner.

Hes just a victim of the strongest top 30 in... forever?

It’s probably because he’s not having a great season but drafting a guy that sounds like Suzuki 2.0 at #5 does not excite me.

Who sounds like Suzuki 2.0?

And I'm sure if Suzuki ever gets a full season under his belt where he gets to play with legitimate top line talent for a whole year then he'll be close to an 80 point player.

There's no one that has the skillset that Suzuki has at #5.

Hes also not having a bad season for a guy playing with AHLers. Mackinnon was 60 pts player too when he played with AHL players.

Suzuki showed he could go toe to toe with the likes of AM, Scheifele, Couturier, Crosby and come out on top.

Pretty sure the Moore 2024 commitment is just an error on Elite Prospects.

"And I feel that I can develop into a great hockey player there, so it’s just a win-win all around,” said Moore, who is a junior in high school and hopes to be on campus in the fall of 2023, after another season with USA Hockey’s National Team Development Program in Plymouth, Mich."

I have also seen players be listed to attend NCAA after their D+1 season, but somehow accelerate and join their team in the fall. Tyson Dyck from last year is an example.

Why not?

I mean in a perfect world I see Suzuki as a good 2C. If you draft top 5 you expect a player at least that good.
In a perfect world your 1C would be Sidney Crosby 10/10 but this world isn't perfect and going for Suzuki as a 2C isn't realistic unless the Habs land Bedard, Fantili or Carlsson.

There's no one with the upside to be a 1C past that.

I believe I read that Matthew Wood did that this year, much like Poehling did when he was in the USHS so he could play with his brothers he advanced his studies to graduate in 3 years instead of the normal 4 for HS.
There's all kinds of factors that are in play, a team will list a player as incoming 2 years from now but if they lose someone to signing early after the season ends, then they push up the players Freshman year. But there's also grades to consider, the player has to have everything done and graduated from HS so for instance if a Senior is on the bubble, he may have to take summer classes so they might hold his spot or not depending on how many scholarships, etc...

Upside can be hard to determine. Guys who go outside the top 5 become superstars all the time.

I don’t need us to draft a Center but I definitely want an impact player. Benson sounds more appealing than Smith for me.

Could Perreault rise up to top 10 and maybe even 8-9 ? I keep reading good stuff about him

Whats his weakness ?
Same weakness as his Dad. Skating. I think he'll keep moving up the ranks but I don't think he'll be top 10. I took him #20 for Nashville in our mock draft. He's having an amazing season!

He can't go there and play in uni. You get paid to play in the CHL. Very low pay, but still paid. NCAA players can't have a contract and they can't have played in a league where they get paid in order to play in the NCAA, so if he's not going there right away, he'd have to go to the USHL, or BCHL

I'd be shocked if he doesn't play in the NCAA next year. If Minnesota doesn't have the space to take him, which would surprise me, someone else will.

It's easier now more than ever to change NCAA commits. And with the imntroduction of the transfer portal a few years ago, even existing NCAA players can move around without having to redshirt a year anymore.

It's super weird because Tom Willander, who has played SHL games this year, is eligible to join Boston University next year.

I can only assume USA hockey is just worried that most 16-18 year old Americans would go to the CHL rather than the USHL.

Apparently Willander hasn't played enough to get paid based on the SHL rules.
