I know we have a few here that are somewhat connected to habs scouts. Wonder if anyone heard the same?

I think I'd be happy with Reinbacher with the FLA pick, but would be disappointed if Dvorsky is our pick at top 7.

What does this guy know about Montreal's prospect preferences?

Absolutely no one had Montreal picking Slafkovsky until minutes before the draft. It seems to me they keep a pretty tight lid, as they should.

Benson/Smith (our pick) + Barlow (FLA), draft a D in the second round.
I think Reinbacher is a good deal better than anything youd find in the 2nd round and Id rather him but I wouldn't be mad at all with Benson+Barlow.

To be fair, didn't Grant say it ?

Say what? That Montreal would select Slafkovsky?

Any way, I wouldn't be disappointed with Reinbacher, and while Dvorsky isn't a sexy pick, he's still has high upside.

These kids need to go through development. Very few step into league and have success right away.

If we draft at 7 and fear neither of Benson or Smith wont be there Im going Cristall but if Im Hugues I try to get into top 6 if we're not. We have enough draft picks/prospects to pull this

Reinbacher Benson/Cristall and Im a happy camper, honestly.

Its not Bedard, Fantili, Carlsson or Michkov but its damn good.

Who would be your pick if you knew Cristall would be there for Floridas ?

Id do Reinbacher with the Habs and just grab the faller with Floridas. Its impossible that an interesting forward doesn't land on Floridas.
I think there's a good chance we get a high-upside faller with the Florida pick as we did with Caufield/Newhook in 2019.

If we're picking 7-10 we can play it relaitvely safe with one of Dvorsky, Leonard, Moore, Barlow, Reinbacher, then grab one of Sale, Cristall or Yager later.

Reinbacher would not be my choice at #6-8 BUT I would be quite fine with it. I have him at #11 and he fits within a range of players I think would view as a positive takeaway in the top 10.

Florida pick will likely be a faller, and among the forwards listed I like Cristall, Moore, Leonard and Sale in that order.....or we could double up and take Simashev if the team wants to build the biggest (but very mobile) defensive unit in the NHL.........oh wait he's Russian, nevermind.

Barlow and Dvorsky, whatever. I'm sure they will be fine NHLers but my problem with the Habs' forward corps isn't a lack of two-way or niche players, I want someone who I could envision being a true offensive generator for both himself AND his linemates. I don't get that impression from either.

If we have the 5th or 6th pick and Michkov drops to us is there any concern that we wouldn’t take him?

I’ve heard some people say that management is not interested in drafting him because of the Russia factor.

Watching some Barlow and here's my very short summary:
Love what he does with his puck touches i.e. decision-making, but he struggles with creating openings for himself (with or without the puck) at 5v5. I'm not sure he'll be able to take advantage of the limited space available when in the NHL.

I feel like a week or so before Bob had Slaf at #1. Not QUITE saying that MTL would pick him though but I remember the panic on here was there that we were gonna pick Slaf

Yeah, I think Grant called it a month or so early.
Grant said NHL scouts told him it was Slafkovsky, then Cooley, then Wright and finally back to Slafkovsky like 2 days before the draft He named all 3 in the same week going to the draft, not sure if he was serious or only trolling fans. He had Slaf ranked 1st since the Oympics and predicted Wright would fall ,as I did. Mark Edward also came here maybe 2 weeks before the draft and said he thought Hughes would pick Slafkovsky and also predicted Wright would drop a few spots.

Nobody really knows what Habs list looks like, you can only try to guess, as Markovsknee pointed out, they wont leak such informations.

I could see both actually. Hoping we can get in the top 6 with our pick and I would go potentially off the board for Reinbacher. He seriously impressed me at the WJC
Very unlikely any of them fall to the Florida pick, they will likely have to chose one of them with their own pick if they like both.

I would be extremely disappointed if we had a top 6-7 pick and ended up with Dvorsky

Do we absolutely need a C with Suzuki and with Dach who has improved on the faceoff, we also have Beck who could become our 3rd C. If we draft 7-8 i’m pretty sure Mtl goes for a winger unless Smith fall.

Personally at 7 anyone between them and im okay since we will have different option with our player

Michtkov
Benson
Smith (could end up on the wing ?)
Yager

In order

And if we add Dubois with the Florida pick…

Next 10 games are crucial, we might even go 2/10 in those games. If Anaheim wins 5/10, itll make us having the 4th pick pre-lottery. I have a feeling we can really be aggressive in finishing bottom 4-5.

Walking out of the first round with Michkov/Benson and 10-13th overall with player like Oliver Moore/Ryan Leonard/Riley Heidt would be amazing!

Don’t sleep on Barlow like you guys slept in Tkachuk. Some say the same knocks on Barlow that they said from Tkachuk. No elite skill, nothing flashy, not high upside, can’t create plays, etc

Barlow, just like Tkachuk, will get the job done in his own way. He will score goals from every way possible in the NHL with his release, around the net, etc. And you add very good speed and two way plays. I have no problem with him at 8+. Either in Suzuki’s wing or Dach, he will light it up.

Don’t sleep on a 18 years old kid, bigger than most with no apparent elite skills. He’ll get the job done no doubt in my mind.

Barlow have a physical/nasty/pest side to him ?.

No. That’s why i wrote « in his own way ». I was talking about them being similar in their draft year with them being 18 years old, more mature physique, no clear elite skills.

Barlow has a better shot, better speed and better two way plays than Tkachuk. Brady had the size, grit, toughness and intangibles through the roof and better all around skills on Barlow.

I think that Thachuk still had a lot more skills But it is hard to ignore how effective Barlow is.
