His skating is not his forte, but other areas of his game make up for it.
I really loved his PO performance, most times he looked like the best player on his team.
Curious to see how he does during his upcoming draft year.
He is the best player on the team, maybe in CHL's 05-born players. He's evolved since the playoffs last season. maybe skating isn't his forte, but whose is it?
This year's draft class is weird. The guys who got the hype got more hype, but at the same time there are some good players who got nothing. I don't think the guys who get the hype are necessarily better, it's just a business, when I see their games, I will have a different feeling and judgment. Benson's size may limit him, but so many small players is shining in the NHL, so I believe in him.

Do you guys see Bedard as center or more of a winger in the NHL?

He's a generational talent so you play him where he feels the most comfortable.

I think he'll be supremely effective either way.

If he was our player and Dach was also developing nicely? I'd probably slot him on the wing against bigger teams and center against smaller teams.

3. Carlsson
4. Dvorsky
5. Yager

As long as the pick is top 5 ill be screaming like a little girl.

Theres something so insane about Carlssons vision. I can't shake the feeling that he's gonna be Barkov to Bedards Mackinnon. Someone knock me out until 2026 I wanna fast forward.
I’m curious to know why you don’t have Fantili in that top five as he looks like a consensus top 3 right now? I like to hear different pov. (I personally never seen him yet)

Im always weary of ranking physical specimens playing against teens high early. Fantili is a few weeks off the 2022 draft, looks like hes 27 since hes 16 and hes playing in the USHL, one of the easiest league to exploit.

Thats my preliminary rankings though, theres still almost a full year of scouting to go.

Theres no competition between him and the first four IMO, and I like Yager because hes a special type because of his shooting. Insane at goalscoring and hes not useless everywhere else, thats 100% a player.

Fantilli will be in a good spot in Michigan to show what he's made of against 18-23 year olds. If he puts up over a PPG as a draft eligible freshman that will solidify his top 3 draft stock.

This is going to be a fun year. A bunch of these guys are going to be ripping their leagues apart, total opposite of this year when almost everyone was totally underwhelming.

Bedard over under a goal per game? I'll take the over.

If Fantilli puts up over a PPG at Michigan he will push Bedard for 1OA. The kid has Mackinnon-like speed , size and physicality and if his productivity develops, Fantilli will be a major star in the NHL.

Let him ‘fall’ to Montreal.

No way he'll challenge Bedard. This is the same story as back in 2015 when McDavid was fated to be challenged by Eichel. Even after a tremendous college season where he dominated, Eichel was still chosen #2. Bedard is on another level, as was McDavid in 2015. The only player that will have a chance to challenge Bedard is Michkov. The russian factor might be a detriment to his draft profile, however.

I remember that most here thought that there was no way Wright would fall out of first over all. I would suggest that if Fantilli has a 'tremendous' college season and significantly overshadows Bedard at the WJC for Canada, he will more than just challenge Fantilli. Beware of the consensus, it can be the great deceiver. I prefer to use my own eyes and judgment.

Nope, Fantilli is not close to Bedard - never will be. It's like comparing a bicycle to a car.

Wright was never in Bedard's category. Everybody in the know had been aware of this for the longest time. No real scout was ever pushing Wright as the next great one - it categorically never happened from the crowd that knows what they are talking about. Who you are arguing against is a small influential crowd that read the scouts but don't understand what they mean, ultimately that crowd is always wrong when they read terms like exceptional and "place" these players in comparison with the Lemieux-Gretzky etc. But you are making an even more fatal mistake here, you are arguing with that crowd and placing yourself in contradiction to them vs. trying to be in the know.

Fantilli is not close to Bedard. Bedard was dominating every tournament at 15, Fantilli at 17 is just starting to do that. Bedard is 2 years ahead. Wright was not dominating anything at 15.

Fantilli will be much better than Wright like most of the top 10 of this draft. But Bedard is in the Crosby category, he'll jump right in the NHL and get 60+ pts.

It's not the same thing. Wright was injured during what is akin to Bedard's last season; and all Bedard did was dominate and show that he's a franchise-level talent. Wright returned from injury last season and didn't live up to expectations. Speaking of eye test, that alone should be apparent when watching Bedard that he's a different beast than Wright. I was a fervent proponent of McDavid as being a franchise-altering player back in 2015, and I believe Bedard is in the same vein.

I'm not comparing Bedard to Wright, who, as I have often opined here, was one of the more over-hyped prospects in the last draft, but to Fantilli. What I saw of the two when they played for Canada at the last U18 raised some concerns about Bedard's ultimate upside. It was only one tournament. So it may have just been an anomaly. It was, however, the same concerns I had when I watched Wright play at his U18 tournament. So before we anoint Bedard as the next McDavid, Crosby, Perrault, etc. let's all closely watch his play this year with an open mind and try to resist the accumulative force of the consensus: always remembering that any effort to gauge the ultimate potential of most 15 to 17 year old athletes, is, at best, an inexact science.
