I get what you’re saying, I just want to calibrate what constitutes a star for MrBip. I just want to grasp his expectation for Smith.

Wether I consider Suzuki a star or not doesn’t matter in what I’m asking, it’s pretty much just to gauge what the expectations are.
Hes under Suzuki as a player IMO. Suz is a top line player but hes just short of a star.

I expect support winger work from Smith. Despite early indication and hype by a few poster here, hes not THAT dynamic and lacks skating, drive and shooting.

The Slaf pick was ok, rushing him to the NHL not.
Parle parle jase jase, but am I the only thinking, with a 8 months later perspective, that NCAA + WJC could have been the best for him?

As far as I know he didn’t commit to any college, but in an utopia… ~45 games against older opposition and still proceed to adapt to North American rinks.

Basically anything but the NHL wouldve been fine.

Bedard, Fantilli, Carlsson, Benson, Smith & Michkov.

And then also having guys like Dvorsky, Sale, Moore, Leonard & Yager available in that Top-10.
Yep - I think we miss the top 6...but drafting maybe 9 and 12 would still be decent.
Moore/Leonard and Reinbacher perhaps.

Anyone have any scouting info on Callum Ritchie? He had a goal and 2 assists in a 5-4 win for Oshawa tonight. And has 58 pts in 56 games on the season.

We will see. I think most probable scenario is Habs 7 and Florida 11 when looking at the standing and where its trending.

Remaining schedule is a tough one

So you don’t see us passing the soulless Flyers? I don’t see how we finish below them, Nucks, Sharks etc.

Russian military recently made official the drafting of full time students that are 16 years old and above. That fact alone makes me question drafting michkov. The previous draft was for 18+ that aren't full time students. And their were sent to their deaths.

There's pressure amounting on Putin to send everyone fairly and not just kids from the middle class, if it persists, a team might see a risk in all players in the KHL as potential draftees that are sent to an active war front that's been a disaster

Due diligence will need to be done

If he comes to the draft, I'd bet a lot on him being without that parents (or siblings) that are told to stay in Russia as insurance policy that he doesn't skip his return flight
Why even let him go to the draft if the plan is for him never to go??

If Russian government will go to that extreme and hold his family hostage, then they should all (The Michkov family) defect to North America as refugees on fear of persecution for moving abroad in search of pursuing a career.

It would also be a political nightmare for the regime, as most Russians and Belarusian (especially the younger generation) do not share the government’s vision.

Border’s are tightening up though….I’m presently in Belarus, came through the Lithuanian border and upon entry, they had a woman come on the bus with a camera and filmed all our faces. This has never happened.

It’s crazy man

We looked soulless for a while too when we lost 7 in a row.

But really, what’s the difference in percentage to win the lottery between 5,6 and 7 rank?

Think it’s like 2%, maybe 3%….it’s minuscule when we talking the lottery.

And the players ranked in that range in case we don’t win, which is highly likely are pretty similar, it’s not like one is way ahead of the other.

We have a tough schedule ahead, hope to see Gurianov develop some chemistry with Nick and watch some entertaining hockey all while hovering in that 4-5-6 -7 range.

I really don’t see any issue with starting him in AHL next year. Even if he dominates in preseason, let him “over ripen” in the AHL first. It’s the Detroit model they used for so many years. I’m always for letting prospects prove without a shadow of a doubt that they are ready. To the point where it becomes so unbelievably clear that keeping them in the AHL is now a detriment to their development.

So yes, that means that Inwould have sent Guhle, Xhekaj, Barron and Slafkovsky all down to the AHL at the start of last year.

Clearly some of those D were ready but they would have been called up anyways shortly after once it was cristal clear.

It’s not so much the difference in percentage between 5, 6, 7. It’s the moving from 5 to 7 vs 7 to 9 if teams higher win the lottery.

Big, tall, strong, very talented. Smart too, Id say. His pace and consistency are issues and the production wasnt there early on, now hes on a tear.

He looked like he was the shit last year, unfortunately he hasnt had the progression we all expected. Hes in my back half of the 1st for now. Hes not a bad prospect at all, its just such a great fricking draft up until 40 that its hard for him to land high.

True….maybe one of those teams is the Florida pick?

Chances of that happening though are a lot lower then our chances to win.
