Just finished watching honzek's last game and I must say Im impressed, he is really tall and uses a long stick displaying his fantatics hands combined to good skating and hard work, what allows him to cover a large part of the ice, retrieving pucks, blocking passing lanes ect. Kid plays smarts and usually makes the right plays, goes in the dirty areas and competes hard for pucks. Kid was listed at 6'1 165 lbs in the import draft about 9 months ago and is now listed at 6'3 186 lbs, what is an impressive spurt growth. He still looks green physically, but there is a good chance he ends up at 200 + lbs when he reaches the NHL. I really like the upside here, once he gains more strength, he will be hard to stop.

Here is an interesting quote from the commentator on Honzek during the game:

"One of the things scouts kind of feel so much about him, he is one of those rare players that has even more talent than you even see. He is just touching the imagination of what kind of skills he really possesses and what he is going to show up in 3-5 yrs from now."

I share the same reasoning, what kid is showing right now is only the tip of the iceberg. He probably ends up top 10 in my final ranking.
We are very much in the midst of the Slovakian golden generation.

We are very much in the midst of the Slovakian golden generation.
They revamped their development program a few years ago and are now reaping the dividends. Last year draft was just the first batch.

And I like Honzek too, but I'm not sure I take him top 10. The Habs need to get a second half 1st round pick (or two if Florida ends up 16-18).

So... Slaf?
I think we draft Bjarnasson with a 3rd 1st or early 2nd round. Reinbacher with Florida's pick. Our pick is a mystery box but hoping elite C. Walk out of the draft with a stud 1C, potential 1D and 1G.
Wouldnt you rather come out of the draft with a stud 1C, stud 1D, potential top 6er/Top 4 D and a stud 1G?

Theres a very hard drop off after 35 for skaters. The goaltending talent is deep, very deep. Probably as deep as Ive seen it.

Its getting even stronger. Chromiak, Adam Nemecs coming too. Such a strong little nation. Hockey Quebec needs to get on this.

Honzek, Heidt, Clara, Egorov, Michkov, Gauthier, Perrault, Perron, Wood, Cristall, Dvorsky ( ITT), Strbak, Brz..., Morin, NDN, Whitelaw, Ziemmer, Lardis.

Of the top of my head.

Most overrated; Bjarnasson, Moore, Smith, Brindley (ITT), Barlow.

Habs need to focus on drafting forward and G. The only D, I would draft it's David Reinbacher. I really think that he is the only D in that draft that he can perfectly complete Lane Hutson.

The Habs pick will be 100% top 10, forward in that range.

With Florida pick, Reinbacher if is still available, if not, forward. Perreault is great, Barlow is great at that range, Heidt is great, Danielson looks very good (i'm not high in the beginning of this season, but so far he looks have high potential), Cristall great aswell, Sale, Yager, Wood, Ritchie, even Musty and Honzek can be both wildcard.

This draft is STACKED on forward.

We need a 3rd first round pick.
It would gives us 4 selections in the top 40.
2 forwards, 1RHD, 1G.
That would be awesome.

You really think Michkov is underrated? If/when he drops, I think it’s more for contract/KHL reasons rather than skills.

Absolutely. He should be a slam dunk #2. The fact something as dumb as the russian factor/contract might keep him out of the top 5 is an indication that they dont comprehend his skill level. To me, Michkov is a Jack Hughes/Matthews level talent or just short of that.

I don t know all prospects. But for the European ones,
-Karkki
-Hameenaho
- Dower Nilsson
- Sandin Pelikka
are the ones nobody speaks of but who are showing impressive stuffs.

Disagree on ASP.. I feel like he's been getting overrated, people talking about him going ahead of Reinbacher when he's only got 2nd pair upside.
I don t see him above Reinbacher but maybe late top 10 potential, but you need to factor in my biais towards Dmen :) I see a lot of what I liked in Nemec in him (not as good of course)

Yeah more of a budget version. 2nd pair Nemec. I've got ASP at 19 and actually prefer Dragicevic just since I find myself more able to hang my hat on Dragicevic's offense than I can ASP's.

I like risk :)

I have only seen a few highlights from Dragicevic but I have not been super impressed to be honest.

I believe i got most of the shifts from Fantilli and Brindley if not all but I was fast forwarding a bit. I thought Fantilli was excellent, Brindley not so much despite the goal.

Fantilli drives me crazy, he's not an awesome finisher yet.

Same, after "testing" him as a top 10 for a while, the WJC told me no. Not enough offensive instincts at this age to be a 60pts D in the NHL.

Any sub 6'0 defenseman without PP1 upside is just a glorified version of Harris/Mete, and not worth a 1st round pick.

Won't PK, will struggle against forecheck, can't battle netfront, will get pinned in their own zone. Only thing they do at a high level is transition 5v5 play.

Not an archetype of D I want in my top 4. The only way it works is if you have a franchise D that is playing #1 PK/PP/shutdown minutes that can take the burden off other D.

A few of my picks below; note they all happen to be Euros, as per tradition at this point of the year

1. Dmitri Simashev
-Best defensive d-man I've seen since.........I want to say Guhle, but I think Simashev is even better one-on-one
-Gargantuan size meets good maneuverability
-Puck skills look good enough for transition and offensive refinement
-Currently 9th on my list and my top defender; 29th overall on the consolidated list (per Eliteprospects.com)

2. Martin Misiak
-Speedy, hardworking centre with size who should be a demon on the PK
-Has decent enough tools for some offensive projection
-As late '04 player, he might not be a homerun, but someone I could project as a third-line driver in the NHL
-Currently 32nd on my board; not ranked on consolidated list

3. Timur Mukhanov
-Typical small, speedy forward who holds some risk on frame alone; also has the Russian factor to consider
-Relentless and skilled, and his production has been decent for VHL play at this stage
-A great example of a player who NHL teams should rightfully be concerned with drafting high, but likely a better bet than some players going ahead of him
-Currently 38th on my board; not ranked on consolidated list

I’ve watched a bunch of his games this year and to me he projects to be the kind of player like Petry was: he’s an important part of your D, he can play big minutes but if he’s your #1 pairing guy you’re probably not making the playoffs

One of the things I like about him is his ability to make a pass whenever, without telegraphing it. The NHL is so good at intercepting passes that this is a good skill to have. Also, he’s a true QB out there all the time and I like that. He reminds me more of a QB playing football then a traditional RD.

Things I don’t like: he can get knocked off his feet too easily, it doesn’t happen too often but still. His skating needs work, especially laterally but he gets where he needs to.

Reminds me of Carlsson. Maybe even Subban but without the underrated D/Physical game. His offense is very good.
