I do think theres very valid arguments to pick Reinbacher at 5, especially after seeing Smith somewhat taper off and Benson not being able to create separation between him and Heidt/Cristall/Smith/Leonard.

Im not picking Reinbacher for the prospect pool though, Im picking him because hes awesome.

Precisely. I want to pick him because he's excellent. He has a combination of size, skating, IQ, and chutzpah that very few other prospects can match.

Kitchener Rangers fired their coach. I've saw them play a couple times this season and they looked awful in both games.

Coaching is important (Ducharme anyone?). Quentin Musty, who was previously a player I was hoping might fall to beginning of the second round has looked much better since the coaching change in Sudbury.

I think the Rangers firing their coach could have implications on Rehkopf and Brzustewicz as well. In the Rangers games I saw this year I really liked Brzustewicz. He looked excellent both games, very poised with the puck, mobile, and great passing. Maybe he will end up being a more realistic target for the Habs 2nd rounder.

Both players are end or 1st worthy. Definitely targets with a 2nd.

Hate to sound like a broken record but Id much rather have one of these two+Clara than Bjarnasson+wtvs left in the 3rd round

Reinbacher

Every list is different, but I still wouldn't pass up on Benson/Smith/Cristall for Reinbacher. Those guys have way too high ceilings and 1st line potential.
I think Benson is closer to making it a Top 5 rather than a Top 4 draft.

I can see picking Reinbacher over Smith if they think Will is more of a winger moving forward. You can likely get one of his teammates with the FLA pick (Perreault, Moore, Leonard). Cristall might drop to that pick as well.

I agree with @Schooner Guy that there is a tier from 1-5 and then a tier from 6-20ish.

There us a scenario in which Benson/Cristall/Smith are Marner type, I think.

There is a scenario in which Reinbacher is a top 10 D in the NHL.

I dont feel like theres much of a difference between these two outcomes.

But beyond silly comparisons and projections, Id say theres a lot less probability that Reinbacher struggles to establish himself as a quality NHLer than these other guys.

I'd take Rehkpof over Hunter in round 2.

Petan cannot/could not skate like Cristall, shoot like Cristall and he relied on a powerhouse team to produce. He was also smaller IIRC.
Cristall is also an average skater, unidimensional and racking points on a bad team.

Open question...Is there one player rated in the Top 10 that you personally would avoid? I know everyone has different rankings but it's interesting to hear thoughts.

The two guys I'm most cautious about who I've seen in multiple top 10s are Barlow and Yager. Barlow seems like the safer bet while Yager has a bit more upside, but I have some red flags on them if the conversation surrounds top 10 selections.

I'm not as fond of Dvorsky either, but I wouldn't grimace since he still projects as a very valuable player to me as far as roster construction.....perhaps just not to the extent I'd want in a top 10 pick, not for now.

I believe Reinbacher would be in the discussion with Nemec or Jiricek?

He has a similar season in a pro league that is also simar to the czech or slovak league

Reinbacher you'd be looking at Seider.. someone from a non-traditional hockey country who has been seen as a first round defenseman by virtue of playing in a pro league in Europe that continuously gets more hype throughout the year by showing more.

I don't think he has the offensive tools that Jiricek has.. but he does look a lot like Seider, big rangy defenseman with some offense but not an elite tool that you can say is gonna create a shit load of offense in his prime.

He's a great candidate to be an all situations defenseman who can play 30 minutes and let Hutson go wild.

Anyone outside my top 13.

There is a very solid gap between 13 and 14 to me.

As for the Habs and their rebuild, anything after 7 is a joke and anything after 4 has being non-competitive for the next decade.

Dvorsky and Sale getting severely under rated on this board imo.

I think there is too much of a stat bias and lesser prospects putting up numbers in the CHL are getting over hyped.

Barlow without a bread accepting the community award.

His stock just went up 3 spots on HFHabs.

Sale is great, he's one of the most talented wingers in this draft. I don't think he's that far off Benson.
He’s definitely a candidate to fall to the FLA pick because of NA bias among NHL teams and the fact he’s not exactly lighting up a men’s league. And I’d be all for it, he’s a great talent.

How good is the defense this year ?
Last year we had
Nemec - Jiricek - Korchinski - Mutiyukov

This year we have
Pelikka - Reinbacher - Dragicevic - Gulyayev

Witch year is better ?? seems like 2022 have the edge here
