I stumbled on Luke Hughes' draft video the other day and Gorton was on the panel as an analyst. Near the end of the clip he speaks about how young the Hughes brothers look and he says that means there's room for growth. He then goes on to say "As a general manager you don't want a guy with a full beard showing up at your table" (3:51 in the video).

Not so sure what that means for 32 y/o looking Barlow.

We can forget about Fantilli if we draft second, and Barlow as well if we draft later. I say that in jest, but I wouldn't be opposed to them taking Michkov or Carlsson at #2 (if we get into a position where we're eligible to win the #2 overall pick, that is).

He might be all you need to be a 3rd wheel on the Suzuki/ Caufield line. A lot of 1st lines work better with a player like that then other types, especially if the Habs want Dach as a 2nd line centre.

I'd prefer Leonard, Heidt or Danielson in that role, at this point.

Cristall will drop. I do not see what is so great about him honestly.

IQ.
Hands.
Playmaking.
Deception.
Edges.

You aren't the 2nd best draft eligible scorer in the WHL behind Bedard without tools. One of the harder leagues to score in, especially when you are small.

This is BS. pardon my french.

Not based in science in any way, shape or form.
Science does show that average peak height velocity is correlated with puberty. The average peak height velocity for males is age 14. If someone hits puberty at 11, their peak height will likely occur in their early-to-mid teens. If someone hits puberty at age 14-15, their peak height will occur later in their teens and maybe age 20.

I'm not concerned about Barlow anyway. He's 6feet tall according to Central Scouting's mid-term report and 6ft1 according HP and EP. The kid was born to score goals. He'll likely go in the 7-14 range which is a steal most years for someone with his pedigree.

Yep but height has nothing to do with looking old or with appearance being used as a measuring tool given a large delta of variant puberty development steps.

Its not about height, it's about every single physical markers you can think of. Two persons might get to the same point physically (Cognitive, appearance, perceived strength, etc.) But what happens if one achieves that at 22 instead of 18? You likely have a player that ends up being better at 22 than the 18 year old who dominated his peers because he created physical separation due to early hormonal peaks.

A. Blind
B. Havent watched him.

Which one is it ? But I hope he drops. Getting him witb FLAs pick would be insane.

I knew you guys knock on Barlow was his bread lol

He has the grit to score these garbage goals Gally is supposed to provide and the shot to set up at the point or opposite of Caufield on the PP. His skillset compliment the playmakers we have coming up so well.

Definitely a candidate with the Florida pick.

I have Barlow at 5.

Just guessing.

If all 4 players were available with our Fl. pick I would be more then okay with us picking any of them but it would be for a different purpose then a LW’ing on the 1st line.

I think Heidt is going to be a lot like Pleks was, as an example at the NHL level.

Heidt is even more chippy than Pleks was, and tbh I think hes more skilled but I dont want to rip Plekasex too much, man was a legend.

It's his shot, skating, size, and team captain. All those qualities hard to find in one player.
Makes me think of Anderson really, same type of cant miss...

I have seen this scenario happen well too often. A player with great talent obliterate junior level players but he is limited physically and with poor skating and will fail to replicate at the NHL level.

Are people as excited by Cristall then let's say Jordan Dumais or our very own Sean Farrell? Would you spend a top 5 or top 10 picks for them? I know I would not.

Cristall is bigger, faster, better and more importantly than these guys.

He also plays with good pace and is a very dynamic player.

Farrel is nice, and he certainly would go top 20 in a redraft, but hes not Cristall.

I had Dumais higher than he went and I think the underrating of him in this thread stems from the same bias weve seen year in and year out for either a) Q players or B) physical players (Like Barlow).

Its pretty clear Dumais went too low, and its also pretty clear Cristall is a better player than Dumais.

Barlow scores a lot like Ovechkin (from the same spots).

Ok. before all of you guys jump on me - HE'S NOT OVECHKIN.

That's why I think his game is pretty translatable....and most importantly, has BECOME more translatable over time. He no longer has to think about the physicality; he's way ahead on that; he's a pro now (I think he plays in the NHL next year, that's another reason potentially for us to get him). You guys know I've presented the argument about downgrading prospects' rankings that have physicality in juniors because it doesn't always scale. I feel the same here. So I'm not ranking Barlow top 10 (13-15), despite the fact that I think he can score 40 in his prime. It's just that he might be somewhere between Anderson and Benn.
