You can listen to the podcast if you want to see what he says but it's the same thing I've been saying.. he's physically mature so it helps his game, and while you can see his production, you have to wonder how translatable his game really is.. some scouts love him and some scouts really don't think a whole lot of what he can be at the NHL level compared to the class.. so its possible he falls if the teams that do like him always have one person ahead and the teams that don't won't make that selection.
What is your opinion on Fantilli who also seems to be physically mature for his age?

I don’t understand how some pro scouts don’t seem to factor in certain players physically development.

I've got to stop watching Michkov videos I'm getting too obsessed!

But seriously, I'll be very disappointed if we pass on a chance to draft him.
He's one of the most talented in the draft, but I've seen a few reports of michkov being a bit of a floater (teamate will get the puck in the Dzone and mich will just leave the zone for a pass). ps I've never watched him live recently so don't crucify me

If the Habs win the lottery and Columbus gets the 2nd overall pick but wants Bedard badly, which offer would get the deal done?

To Columbus:
First overall (Bedard)

To Montreal:
Second overall
Jiricek

Would you do this trade and draft Michkov and get Jiricek to fill a huge need?

IMO, the weakside winger should fly the zone if his team recovers the puck. If it even looks like his team will recover, he should start. You see that play a lot in Europe.

I mean the value is not off. But, I just can't see how any team passes on Bedard.

Historically it would be like if Edmonton traded #1 in 2015(McDavid) for #2 (Eichel) and Risto (#8 in 2013).

There is a chance it turns out better, but there is a chance it turns out 2015.

I get what your saying but just constantly chilling at the red line won't work in the nhl

That would be terrible.

If you have the Bedard pick, i dont really think there is any offer that would be worth entertaining

He doesnt.

Also Bure had a HOF career pretty much doing just that, id take a bure.

Need to stop overthinking the draft, man. See talent, draft it.

Well en up with yet another celery stalk without a brain because were trying to be smart.

I heard the podcast and Basu's opinion on this was surprising to me. For all intents and purposes every top end player in this draft who will be available to us is likely on the small side (by this I'm implying Fantilli, Carlsson won't be available to us).

Foregoing obvious talent like Smith, Benson etc for Dvorsky just because Dvorsky is big seems like the flawed logic we used to employe when we would draft players like McCaron just because we had a stigma that we were too small. I sure hope Basu is wrong here because we need scoring BAD and this is a draft and a 1st round we absolutely need to knock out of the park.
If we draft someone like Benson I could see selecting someone like Danielson with our 2nd pick. Maybe it’s a bit of a reach but that makes way more sense then passing on a Benson or a Smith.

I don’t understand how some pro scouts don’t seem to factor in certain players physically development.

At least Fantilli is playing against College players, so he's not taking advantage of under-developed teenagers for the most part.

But it's part of why I have Carlsson ahead of Fantilli. Carlsson has more physical development to go through and I truly believe his hockey sense and offensive tools are better, he's just not as good of a skater and isn't able to physically compete the same way Fantilli can.

He's been doing this less as his residency in Sochi lengthens.

Although this is a bad habit to cheat as such, I'm not too worried about players doing so pre-draft because they are young and hungry. Professional coaching will iron out these habits over time so long as the kid is coachable.

No, just uncommitted, untalented, adults.

I wouldn't overreact to the Athletic support takes about this draft. They are NHL reporters, not prospect specialist. I would expect their knowledge about both the prospects and the habs approach to this draft to be better after the season is over.

Their lack of knowledge of the prospects was pretty apparent.. Pronman was non committal on a lot of things because there's a lot of runway left.

Thanks for your answer and you have some legit points. Maybe you‘d feel better about if Columbus adds another pick or takes on a horrible contract. We could trade for Dubois or wait a year and hope joins the team via free agency.

Dach - Dubois - Michkov
Slaf- Suzuki - Caufield

Guhle - Jiricek
Hutson - Matheson

The top 2 lines would look great.

Dvorsky has a lot more to his game than just being big. He has an impressive pedigree playing against men. He also played a great shutdown role in the WJC at age 17 against top lines (including Canada and USA) and tore up the Hlinka-Gretzky tournament at age 16. I really hope he plays in the WU18 this spring. He'll torch kids his own age.

Pronman's view of Dvorsky was very similar to mine, thinks he'll go (right now) between 8 and 14. Doesn't love the skating, a lot of concerns amongst scouts about his offensive game translating since he is lacking some above average elements to his tool-kit, most scouts seem him as a middle 6 forward.

Rantonen, Suzuki, Caufield

There, fixed it - while we are adding players at random.

hmmmm.....add Gally from the Habs and maybe Columbus 2nd from them?

1st overall + Gallagher

for

2nd overall, Jiricek and 33rd overall

Probably too many moving parts at that point but enticing to dump Gallaghers contract.
