Sometimes it works but statistically speaking, it’s better to take the player who’s rated higher draft-wise.

It’s been analyzed by people with nothing better to do with their time and that’s their opinion. I don’t have the articles to show you but that’s how it goes.

Stevie Y has also struck out big time too by reaching for players too early.
Alot of big, raw, talented defensemen, especially the euros, are ranked lower than they should most years.

Just last year, Jiricek went 5th OV, I had him top 2 in the draft. Mintyukov went 10th OV, I had him 5th OV in the draft.

Simon Edvinsson went 6th OV and projects as a much more impactful player than most of the fowards picked after that, I like him better than Luke Hughes personally.

Noah Dobson was my favorite player at our spot, ended up being drafted 12th OV.. I think the higher Seider was ranked was 15 th OV, I had him 4th OV.

You go for BPA, the most impactful player you can get and if thats a defenseman, so it be.

I think Michkov is on no draft so you can ignore him. I think Wood and ASP make the top 10 given the fact they love size and need a puck moving RD. Could see Perreault being close too
I can't possibly imagine intelligent people like HuGo have Michkov as no draft.
Little nuance: he'll be top 4 on HuGo's list but maybe lower on the Molson-approved list, which is heartbreaking tbh. Let us dream beerboy!

In my humble opinion, any team not drafting Michkov at 4+ has completely lost the plot, regardless of the so-called risk.
He's arguably the 2nd best prospect (after Bedard) since Matthews.

I'm fairly certain HuGo came out to debunk the Russian media myth relaying that they have a home rule against drafting Russians, even though they didn't end up drafting any (can't really be sad about the first 5 picks now can we?). We should stop reviving this propaganda.

Fair report IMO. Skating, compete (motor) at 6/10, his overall strength is also a concern. but his offensive awareness, stickhandling and playmaking are high end, what makes him so attractive. How much he improves on his weaknesses will determine how impactful he will be at the NHL level.

I agree Michkov is really good I just don‘t see them going after the Russian guy because they ll always have an excuse (this guy has a better personality, more dynamism, we know him better, we needed the other position…).

Engels seemed to believe there was a point that the Habs would draft Michkov.. and it seems to be with the Florida pick.

So if Michkov is hanging out there when we are on the clock the 2nd time, who knows.

But our first selection will be on someone with certainty.

I’m not against drafting D men, in fact I’ve been advocating building from the net out here for years.

I preferred Cooley and Nemec last year and I still feel that way. We all have our own ideas on these things but statistically speaking drafting way out of order fails more often the just drafting the next guy up.

I value guys by how hard they are to obtain by other means and how much value they bring to your team and not necessarily BPA and also how the player fits into what you want your team to do. There’s a lot of grey in my world.

In terms of D men in this draft, I think we can get guys as good as these guys by other means like trades or the UFA market and not by expending a 5th or 6th OA pick. Maybe by the end of the year I feel differently about their value, then I will change my opinion.

I can’t remember a time where a defenseman wasn’t taken top 10. This year could the exception. I don't see any in the top 5. The first D-man can go between 8-15 in this year draft.

Dobson is a NB born-raised and developped player

Barlow looks like a 30 year old man. I'm fine with picking him in the top-15, but I want to send him to Europe next year, preferably Sweden.

Why no benson?

I kind of okay with anyone except Dvorsky and Sale. Just seem like meh picks

It is just my guess at HuGo top-10 based on the players they would likely target.

No Benson because I suspect the Habs will find a way to NOT pick him. If they are top-5 they will go with someone else, if they are 6/7 and he's the best on the board they probably trade down or reach for someone else. Michkov could probably be dropped out too just in terms of our realistic picks. I think ASP will be high on our list too.

I want Kalen Line ! Love that type of player

Yeah, that was Lind in top form last night. He can play too. He's one of my favorites. Think he can have a Wayne Simmonds type career. He's better than his brother, especially when it comes to skating, which is where Kole has faltered.

Sawchyn & Lind are 1st rounders in any other draft year. This draft is deep.

Last year, we had 11 picks. I want another 11 this year: 3 picks in 1st round, 2 picks in 2nd round, 2 picks in 3rd round, 2 picks in 4th round then a 5th & a 7th.

So we need to add one pick to 1st, 2nd, & 3rd rounds and move a 4th & 5th round pick. It's definitely do-able.

I would also be ok with Montreal drafting 2 goalies this year.
