I disagree this year is the best year I can remember with center available. Give me Dvorsky, Smith, Carlsson, Leonard over Cristall.

We need a Zegras type of player more than another Caufield/Drouin

Yes with Suzuki. Dach is not a center IMO. Beck is very good but one more would be ideal.
Drouin/Caufield?? Caufield is infinitely better than Zegras.

Caufield and Drouin are nothing alike and Cristall is more akin to Zegras than either, even if I do not think it's a great comparison. Closer to Mitch Marner stylistically, and it's easy to forget that Marner also had a tendency of overhandling and doing batshit junior stuff until he adapted to the NHL. It's a risk that he will have a similar development curve, but I have patience for players who exhibit that high end playmaking ability who can facilitate offense for everyone in the lineup.

Out of the players you named, Smith is a good alternative to Cristall but I think he'll go top 5, if not then I'd be thrilled with that. Dvorsky I'm meh on, Carlsson will be long gone, and Leonard is simply a different kind of player.

Revisionary? Marner at 17 years old was the main player of a dominant London Knights team. He was already the best two way forward in the draft while Cristal is uberly talented he is lacking defensively and clearly not on par with Marner.

Marner was playing on a monster team, he was their best player but Domi, Dvorak and even Mccarron were all stars back then. Cristall is very close to him as a prospect.

Your opinion of Cristall is quite weird.

I see way more of Drouin or Skinner than Marner with Cristall.

Marner was an A+ skater and an A+ two way forward.

Cristall is an A+ hands puck control but no where near that good of a skater nor a two way forward.

I don't see Cristall's utilization being in the same patterns as Marner.

I know people viewed Slafkovsky as a good winger for Suzuki and Cole because of his size, but I think Benson would be a great candidate for that spot. The goal of that line would be to get Cole the puck in shooting positions as often as possible. I think Benson would excel there, much the way Suzuki is.

I love that top 10.

I would bump wood one spot and have Yager at 9 but aside from that, very close to mine. Carlsson ahead of Fantili too.

Nice, for the Habs I would be happier with one of those 3 dmen over Yager, but I would take Yager first out of the next group of forwards.

Your ranking sounds good to me though, Carlsson vs Fantilli is very close, but TBH I didn't really like either of their body language at the WJC. Fantilli seemed pretty douchey and Carlsson is somewhat passive, although he did take over one game.

Carlsson did have an illness going into the WJC and missed the first game I think.

I have a strong bias against the United States colleges system. Sure, there are some excellent players from there. But I have deeper respect for the Canadian circuit as it's more like the real NHL.

I see the US system as an ugly Americanization of hockey.

I see the US system as an investment into a program and getting ahead in player development/trends.. vs the CHL model which hasn't really adapted anything and has rested on the fact that Hockey is Canada's #1 sport.

Hockey Canada spending more time paying off rapes than developing.

I could live with the idea of this top 6 if we draft say 6 and 10

Caufield Suzuki Dach
Slaf Dvrorsky Yager

You realize it's been around 60+ years, right? I mean Ken Dryden played 2 years at Cornell University. Rod Langway 2 years at New Hampshire. Craig Ludwig 3 years at North Dakota. Chris Chelios played 2 years at Wisconsin.

College system helped build our 80s defense core.

It's a long established development route to NHL.

What is it with all the posters lately being satisfied with a 6th and 10th pick in January???
Dream a little ffs
Bedard and Michkov defecting this summer, E5, you bunch of pleasant, rational people!
;)
It's a joke, I enjoy reading all the comments on the top 15, keep it coming!

"like the real NHL".... where the billionaire owned "franchises" have exclusive rights on players rights to practice their professions? Coming from a European background, the idea of a "junior draft" which then has exclusive rights on 15-year olds who want to practice their sport at the highest level seems absolutely insane.

I for one am glad that the NCAA has established itself as a good option for top Canadian players too. Playing in the NCAA gives prospects more time to develop their game before taking the leap to the NHL, which hasn't looked like bad choice for the likes of Makar or Fox.
