If: stay at 18: take someone with legit top line upside (not “safe” picks like Danielson etc)

Else: trade back and get more picks. This draft is pretty open.
Yup. In my view in the ~20-40 range prospect values start to flatten and tend to be a bit interchangeable. Rather have 2-3 shots (within reason) than 1.

Ofc if there's a higher faller like connor in 2015 take him.

Why? Wheeler here since 2011, 55s only team, Hellebuyck only team. I think this narrative that ppl don't want to be here is bullshit and not true.
Murat mentioned that Hillier said they'd lean towards a player that they think would like Manitoba as opposed to BPA...

That statement was qualified with the notion that if two prospects are equal that the Western Canadian aspect might tip the scale in that player's favour.

Pretty sure they'll still go with BPA. I'm not even sure why they're entertaining the media's narrative that the Jets need more Canadians.

If it's from the interview I saw from Hillier he said basically if players are close in talent (not a clear cut BPA) that they do take that into consideration, but BPA is still the major deciding factor.

I think it would be interesting to see some sort of log of players who have "wanted out" of teams. I don't think any of us have delusions of being a chosen destination, but with few exceptions we've been able to extend players who are here.

Meier didn't want to extend in SJ, Pesce maybe not in CAR, there are countless examples of players not extending. But somehow when it's Winnipeg, even if a player has been here for 8+ seasons it's an opportunity to say it's because of the city.

NMC and getting players to waive them who've not spent time here and have other options? For sure, no issue saying we're impacted there.

I wouldn’t mind Ritchie, but that goes against the Jets’ drafting paradigm that Canadians can no longer play hockey. I hope I’m wrong.
I personally never thought the Jets actually thought this even if they draft like it.

To me the Jets have been and should be "value" drafters. They take players who fall to them and they take value where it is.

To be blunt drafting for value in the CHL doesn't exactly exist unless that player is small. The CHL as whole has so many eyes on it that I don't even think it's debatable that those players are consistently over-drafted.

Murat mentioned that Hillier said they'd lean towards a player that they think would like Manitoba as opposed to BPA...
That has to be such a ridiculously hard thing to gauge. Especially when you're talking about evaluating that in a 17 year old.

May as well stop being a fan of this team if that's the case. You can't predict how a guy is going grow into in terms of his preferences and choices. If you are trying to make those judgements on 18 year olds and sacrificing player quality then you have already lost and fallen into loser mentality.

Lot of teams like Danielson. Watched him enough to see why. He is very pro ready being older and plays a complete 200 foot game. Tilts the ice when he is on and almost carried his team to the playoffs.

I don't believe we will get shot at Nate unless we trade Helle on the draft floor to Pitt for #14. Even then I expect him to be gone. Natural center that is 6'2" and like you said he feels pro ready.

We faced the same thing with the footy club I support -- plenty of players who didn't want to play in... London.

Fishbowl, media, taxes, weather, language each often cited.

It happens everywhere. Classic, lazy, easy narrative to reference and reinforce, especially with ignorant national media and locals who take the bait, IMO. Enduring self-loathing and resistance to change from some quarters doesn't help either.

"You like it here, Blake Wheeler? Really? Cmon. What are you actually saying when you tell us that? Cmon..."

It's an issue and not an issue. A creative, forward-thinking management group in charge of an exciting and ideally winning team has to worry about it a whole lot less.

Simashev is good a player but I’m reluctant to take him.
I like Yager, Barlow, Perreault, Moore in our range if Dvorsky, Danielson, Benson are gone.

Did you get in any live viewings at Ice games?

Now we just have to convince players Winnipeg is a lot like Manchester.

That's not what I heard in that interview earlier today?

on another note Hillier said they really hope they get a top 10 guy FROM THE JETS LIST at #18.

That's encouraging.

I kinda miss Marcel Comeau's soothing presence at the Jetz draft table and mics. Does he come out still as an amateur scout? I know he stepped down as head years ago but can't recall how involved he still is.

I got to see less than a handful of Dub games.
Benson is talented as heck.
He would be a nice faller and it would be Perfetti 2.0 as far as surprise level but not sure we need another small winger.

Pick #18 is ok and better than not having a first round pick but this is kind of the Stanley, Roslo, Heinola draft slot so I have a bit of PTSD from this range.

Always nice to add another asset to the mix though.
