Still kinda hope that the habs don’t get michov. Will be another few years of how he is better than Bedard.

I'm hoping we can somehow get an extra 1st rounder. Even a late 1st for someone like Kovačević.

Otherwise, there's a lot of intriguing options at 18.

I like Honzek.

What about Simashev? Maybe unlikely, but he might be a dandy.

Yager?

I could see the Jets trade up or down, considering that #18 seems to be at an inflection point in the draft.
Simashev is good a player but I’m reluctant to take him.
I like Yager, Barlow, Perreault, Moore in our range if Dvorsky, Danielson, Benson are gone.

Would love to see Chevy trade up for Reinbacher... aside from that, I'm pretty blah on whoever we get - just please draft a natural C or D please.... no more wingers in the first round

My prediction for Chevy (from about 20 mins of reading haha)
18 Calum Ritchie
82 Damian Clara
146 Cole Knuble

Not sure if serious.
Haven’t been following the Scheifele/Helle rumours as much as life has been busy the past week or so — last I saw it didn’t seem like we were trading them in time for today?

I didn’t get the chance to dive too deeply into the draft this year, but there are (seriously) a number of prospects I’d be happy with/intrigued by at our spot.

Edit: Just noticed the typo in my OP — meant to say there ARE a lot of interesting options that should be around at 18.

Am I correct in that we're walking into this draft with 2 picks in the first 4 rounds?

Doing a bang up job at restocking the cupboards of a team that, at best, is treading water.
well we had 2 1sts last year, got 2 young players back in the pld trade and will have 2 picks in the top 40 in next years draft and we still have 2 trades to make that should have more young players coming back

I have a hunch that we’re either going to be trading away a Scheifle/Helle for not as good pieces + a draft pick. Mind you, I haven’t been paying attention to the draft, but it seems like Chevy tends to make things work… at least reasonably well.
I think he’s also thinking about how we’ve got Lucius, Lambert, etc coming up and he needs more mid-6 bottom 6 pieces. So he’s okay with trading for them or signing them off waivers.
Meaning, “you’ve got two draft picks, son, best be making the most of both of them,” is his method this year.

Yager is an exciting player. I can see him having some high potential. He was one of those guys that I had that might sneak into the first. He was very good at the Hlinka and I think they kind of view him the way Danielson gets viewed as guy they think should have produced more. Be interesting to see where he goes but he should around our pick

Seems like a player that might replace some of what Scheifele offered... scoring C, giving up value defensively.

Still, scoring is the rarest asset in the NHL...

I wouldn’t mind Ritchie, but that goes against the Jets’ drafting paradigm that Canadians can no longer play hockey. I hope I’m wrong.

I think it'd be better to look at our under-24 (not sure the exact age) group of players? Rather than just draft picks. Perfetti, Samberg aren't in the cupboards anymore but they're good long term pieces.

I think they need to a better job drafting /developing outside the 1st though for sure.

Vilardi and Kupari fit that as well since they are former 2017 and 2018 first round picks that will be roster players here.

Hopefully Heinola can stake his claim this year and join that group.

Yeah, they need to draft even more efficiently when their picks values are bottom half of the league.

I know ppl get on me about this but in my view they have to outperform the competition in the draft quite a bit. With being a weaker ufa and trade destination, the draft - through all rounds - is where they need to make their hay.

If: stay at 18: take someone with legit top line upside (not “safe” picks like Danielson etc)

Else: trade back and get more picks. This draft is pretty open.
