So if we were to make a move with the Cat for that Detroit 9th overall, who do you target in that range
Gabe Perreault?

Reinbacher
Honzek
Wood
Barlow
Dvorsky if he's still there
Sale

If there's a trade with Detroit it would be for 19th/20th overall though, they wouldn't be moving the 9th for DBC. Honzek and Sale would still be on the table with 19th.

Copp has a 10-team NTC. That contract is kinda scary too.

Yeah it's not ideal but can't see the Wings giving up the 9th OA straight up. Anyway, it'd be better if we could really just trade DeBrincat for 2 solid players

I mean, this is the case for every team. Our good young players have to continue developing and avoid injuries, otherwise, we likely won't ever be a contender. This is true. If Jack Hughes didn't play a full season and vault himself into superstar status this year, the Devils aren't where they are.

This is not wrong at all but my point is that teams in similar situations have started "winning" years ago, made the playoffs a few times and maybe won some rounds. The best of them have done even better.

With that said, I fail to see how we'd be in better shape if instead of Chychrun we had the 12th OA pick this year, and used it to select Brayden Yager.

We'd still be saying "Man if Yager doesn't turn out we won't be competitive – we need a lot of stuff to go right for us! What if he doesn't make the team until 2027?"

I'm not against the Chychrun trade at all, although I'd prefer a more defensive guy who is not injury prone and has longer term. The problem is more that we went for DeBrincat when we should have used this draft capital to get Chychrun and fix the very flawed defensive group, or at least improve it. Wingers were pretty cheap last summer. For example, Bjorkstrand cost a 3rd + 4th, has term at a much more reasonable rate than ADB will go for, is way better defensively and has 7 goals and 21 pts less than DeBrincat in a down year too. We didn't need DeBrincat and his 45% pts production from the PP, although with Norris injury it helped.

You've also taken a very glass-half-empty view. You forgot:

• Tim Stützle just scored 90 points at 21 years old - something very few players have ever done
• Brady Tkachuk is 23 and already a PPG power forward, of which there are 2 in the entire league (his brother being the other)
• Jake Sanderson has proven to be an absolute stud on the back-end

Yeah I would say these 3 are our main hope. If Norris can get back to where he was before the injury, then I would say he's the 4th key piece. Then there's a lot if question marks, like Chabot and Batherson defensive game. I believe they need to evolve in a different coaching system and maybe with the right linemates too (Batherson needs Norris, Chabot needs his Methot)

The idea that we need to already know who our "9th guy" is to be competitive is pretty crazy. Guys like that are interchangeable and can be found through mid-round draft picks, free-agent signings, minor trades or even the waiver wire.

Well that was just ONE point among a seas of other points... so yeah nothing crazy here. I believe you need a very strong top-9 to go deep in the playoffs though. Look at Seattle depth and where it's taking them in their 2nd year of existence. Ottawa is not even close to that after rebuilding for 6 years.

In 2018/19, the Avalanche had assembled a core of MacKinnon, Rantanen, Landeskog and Makar. And they all hit. That's all that mattered. Everything around those guys was interchangeable and constantly in flux.

We need better coaching, and we need better goaltending. Those are the two glaring holes. Our pool of young players and allotment of draft picks is not of concern.

It could become if we don't fix the management and drafting part...

Isn't he the same poster who runs the Sens Board Prospect rankings polls?

Let's see...
2018: 1. Chabot 2. Tkachuk 3. Logan Brown 4. Colin White 5. Drake Batherson 6. Alex Formenton 7. Filip Gustavsson ... 22. Nick Paul
2019: 1. Batherson 2. Brannstrom 3. Logan Brown 4. JBD 5. Lass Thomson 6. Norris. 7. Wolanin 8. Formenton ... 11. Gustavsson
2020: 1. Batherson 2. Norris 3. Brannstrom 4. Logan Brown 5. JBD 6. Alex Formenton 7. Shane Pinto ... 13. Zub ... 16. Gustavsson 25. Kastelic

We don't have a great prospect pool anymore, according to him, yet between 2018 and 2020 (didn't bother with 2021 + 2022) we produced some of our best players in the 6+ rankings. As a matter of fact, looking back, you'd find it downright laughable that Norris was considered a lesser prospect on this board than Logan Brown. Gustavsson has become the latest poster boy for inept asset management and all his stock did was slip, according to the same group of voters. I'm sure he's going to write a 45 paragraph rebuttal that rambles on and on about god knows what but I'm honestly wondering what credibility this person has? They keep making these polls every year and they seem to be hilariously wrong almost every year. Shouldn't that be enough for them to realize that predicting prospect success is a lot harder than it looks and that you can get diamonds in the rough at any time, that make your prospect pool look better overnight?

I have been on record (a while ago, before these guys played in the NHL) for calling the Sens 2020 draft one of the best in NHL history. It's basically the reason why we have hope and potential. But remember, Tim Stutzle is a DIRECT gift from inheriting Erik Karlsson. Josh Norris is too. Ridly Greig and Tyler Kleven is from inheriting Pageau. Not much success with all the other trades but that's Dorion... We could have Gustavsson right now, we could have had other nice assets from the Dzingel return but Dorion hilariously managed it. We only have Brannstrom (maybe Thomson too?) to show for Duchene and Stone

Having these guys doesn't make Dorion a shrewd NHL manager, he was just more fortunate than probably any past GM who had to go through a rebuild because of the quality of the assets in their PRIME (and even in the pool) he started with.

Also, big lol at "hilariously wrong almost every year". I don't care about what you think my credibility is, you take it or leave it, it's your choice and frankly nobody cares. However, I don't think you'll be able to influence anyone capable to call a spade a spade this way. But good try though

So despite what you are saying, I have a pretty good track record with predicting prospects. Invested like 10 000$ in Karlsson's rookie year, made 30 K$ profit when he won his first Norris. He was not the first I projected, but he was the first guy I actually materialized my projections with. Doesn't mean that I can't be wrong on some guys though, like Mike Hoffman for example, who I thought would be just a cup-of-coffee guy because of his overall game. His overall game is pretty bad but he still made a career out of it so I was wrong

* Regarding Gustavsson. I saw both he and Mandolese play live at the 2018 rookie tournament and liked Mandolese more. I was not high on him and was vocal about it in the polls. But after watching Gustavsson closely in 2020-21 (both in NHL and AHL), I did a complete 180 on him. This is of course all in my posting history. You're just assuming that I am using the benefit of hindsight when this is all stuff I have said a while ago. And frankly, I'm far from the only one. Actually, most posters have been able to call Dorion bad moves when they happened

A Timo Meier extension before the draft would be best for DeBrincat's value, but that doesn't seem likely. Can't see Detroit giving up 9th overall at the draft when they could wait a few days to kick tires on Meier as a UFA before seriously going after DBC.

Kiviharju was never the actually in contention for 1st overall. Too small, and doesn’t skate well enough for a player to go that high. He also hasn’t been too much better over last year. He’s this years Timothy Liljegren - a hyped defender at such a young age but at the end of the day he won’t go top-10 because of his physical deficiencies.

Disagree hope heartedly with Dvorsky over Smith - for most of this year Dvorsky has been a player that has had trouble driving the offence for whatever team he has played on. He doesn’t have close to the high end upside that Smith has in my opinion. Smith has two-way potential just like Dvorsky but Controls the offence in ways Dvorsky hasn’t showed he can.

crazy that He‘s 2024 eligible
Yeah I'm still on the fence between Smith and Dvorsky. Smith has higher upside for sure, but Dvorsky seems like the kind of center you win with come playoffs in the NHL.

Good year to be looking for a forward, not many D I'd want to take in the 1st round compared to most other years. Would probably get through at least 4, probably 5 of the D last year before I'd take one from this draft

Looks like the Sabres are going to add another good forward to their stable.

Pretty close to the same place the Sens are in a rebuild and a host of good prospects coming.
Having to trade assets to get rid of bad contracts and potentially losing on the Debrincat trade stings the Sens prospect pool.
