He has average skating I'd say but likely projects adequate for the NHL. He's just all around really good. His upside seems ... boring maybe? Not sure I see that much NHL offensive potential but every time I've seen him he seems really good defensively, engages physically and can make plays from his own end. He could end up being a big time steal late in the first if his skating improves greatly.

If things work out and you can find a 2nd pairing RD that does everything right, maybe you've found a Pesce / Toews / Schmidt (although Schmidt has some wheels) and the hockey IQ seems to be there. That is a win at 28.

where is someone like Matvei Michkov expected to go? I know he's a top 3-5 prospect in this draft but I'm wondering if he might fall to late teens because of his 3 year KHL deal and he's Russian. or is he expected to just go somewhere in the top 5 like expected.

He's going to be a Washington Capital.

Pierre Engvalls brother is in the draft

I could see why a team would fall in love with him. Big players who can skate like him with a good touch around the net aren't exactly super common (especially in this draft). Is almost Draisaitl esque the way he drops his shoulder to protect the puck and drive through the middle.

so you think he's going to fall a little bit but not outside the top 10
Yeah Michkov wont make it past the caps. I think theres a solid chance thats where he ends up.

Where might Michkov end up next week?

Are teams trying to collect information on one of this year’s draft’s biggest unknowns?

Johnston: Yes, we’re talking about multiple teams and we’re talking about Matvei Michkov, who is probably the biggest mystery in this draft. The talent is apparent to scouts that have seen him but he wasn’t present at the scouting combine in Buffalo earlier this month. He did have limited conversations with NHL teams. And that makes the one-on-one meetings he’s going to have next week with a handful of teams in Nashville important to his future. Talking to sources around the league, a lot of people seem to think he’s going to fall somewhere in the five-to-eight range. That starts with the Montreal Canadiens with the fifth pick, Arizona at six, Philadelphia at seven and Washington at eight. So, it will be up to those teams, starting with the Canadiens of course, to decide what they’re going to do with Michkov, whether they take maybe a safer prospect or go for the talent.

Don't have any major issues except Barlow would be somewhere in my top 15, Danielson my top 10ish, Simashev closer to 10 then 30 and Cristall wouldn't be on my list, but agree on a lot of stuff. I agree with Michkov's ranking if he played in the CHL, but I have to move him back behind Fantilli and Carlsson.

I love Leonard and would put him right where you have him.

My list is a fair bit different.

I wonder if Ethan Gauthier is high on our list. Ranked in our range, his dad played in Pheonix when Treliving was AGM and Ethan was born that year in Arizona and most importantly he just plays hard every shift and has the skill to go along with it. Skating needs some work but that never seems to stop us from drafting players.

One guy, I really don't agree with is Wood. To me I think his skating is not good enough for the bigs. He's got one ugly stride.

I can tolerate bad skating if your scouting staff thinks the issue is fixable. I’m no expert on skating mechanics so I have no idea if Wood can get better in this area or not. In Wood’s case he has a track record of elite production, and has high end skill in a big body. If his skating improves even a little bit you have a potential first line forward on your hands.
