Hallander isnt a bust hes still developping.
Very good list tbh. Curious what, in your opinion, prevents Ritchie from being in that Cristall-Barlow-Heidt-Danielson group. I have him right there with these guys (well Heidt a bit higher but wtv)

RHP was a better offensive traits though. I would look for him maybe next year as an overage if he can take his game at an other level next year.

Really GREAT kid too ! Can't say enough of good things about him and how much I like that kid. Caufield type of personality always smiling and positive. I hope he's gonna be available in the 4th round.

Yes Mael Lavigne is a good case. Matteo Mann is an other one who had to battle with injuries and if you look at his hockeyDB, you won't want him but he got tools (really good skater) and he's really BIG. Maybe an other Xhekaj ?
Not at Verdon's age though ;). I dont know if you remember but RHP was very small and a non-factor most nights. I remember watching him because of Myers and I never really thought anything of him, Verdon opens up a lot of space because he's really smart.

I would be very, very happy if they invited him, if hes not drafted (Id spend a 5+ on him, personally.)

Its upside related mostly. Especially for Cristall and Heidt, theyre just way more skilled and they do things that Ritchie will never be able to do. Of course, the opposite is true, but the premium on Ritchie is a lot easier to acquire than Heidt-Cristalls.

I actually debated Ritchie-Barlow-Danielson (And Honzek, Stenberg and Rykov) because I think their upside are all similar. I tend to lump my comparisons together and rank from there. If I compare all of those, Ritchie scores actually pretty high, his hands compare well to Honzek, his shot is close to Barlows, his two-way game is close to Rykov, etc, but he's never really scoring as the best. He's like a 7 all over, that screams 3rd line to me. Ritchie does have better hands than Barlow, but Barlows shot is just better, and then you combine this with the powerful stride Barlow possess and I just prefer his package.

Danielson is a bit like this too, if Im honest, but then again, he's better all over the board than Ritchie I think, better skating, better hands, better shot, better vision and better production.

Note that this isn't a draft list, that's a ranking of who I think is gonna have the best career, otherwise Id have Rykov way behind, and probably Heidt+Cristall+Lardis would be a bit closer to Ritchie.

You need draft picks, but the truth is people overvalue them . I mean once you are out of that top 10, while plenty of stars will be discovered, at best you are connecting 10-15 % of the time on the rest of the 1st round.

Being at no.5 , I would try real hard to move up to grab who we want. Sure , maybe there are no takers, but try. Right off I don't bat an eye at adding in the Florida 1st, but that won't do it.

Thing with Jarmo is he is a chaos factor. He doesn't run with the herd. Now a consideration here is that Columbus is looking for the post season now. Our best trade chip is Anderson, so that's a no go. But if we can do a 3 way deal and throw in the 5th, Florida and Anderson and X, can that gets us the 3rd from Columbus , for example ?

My guess is there will be those that will say none of those teams trade, but others that will say it's too much and thats a crazy offer. For me, if it gives us a potential star C, a real franchise C then how is it not worth it ? Sure there is risk, but this is the time to take risk on a legitimate high level prospect to help pull us out of mediocrity. Maybe the Swede.

Well I'm not sure WTK. Frankly, the guy said that if 2 players are close to be the same, extra curricular things could come into play.

If the guy ends up picking Dvorsky instead of Michkov....the evaluation is that both players are similar? Say what now?

To me, it sounds more like if Michkov is there, we are taking him. If not, it's just words that meant nothing.
But then he can always twist it to fit his narrative again and say “well for us talent includes positional flexibility and two-way play plus the bonus of size”

I would take everything he says with a grain of salt. If talent was an actual priority for the Habs, Lane Hutson would have been picked before Mesar and Beck.

If Hugo try to claim that anyone at 5 has Michkov's talent unless some top 4 team went off board the shitshow that will result will turn the sky brown

I would also look to do that. We have quite a bit of depth, need high end talent.

I'm looking at the SJ-ARI trade last year for the Connor Geekie pick. 11 for 27, 34 and 45.

We could maybe go for something like that 29 + 37 + . Maybe a team like Pittsburgh with pick 14 and very little depth in their prospect pool.
I was thinking about something like 29 and 37 for Detroit's pick (via NYI) at 17.

Hallander isnt a bust hes still developping.

Great list thanks for sharing that!! :)

I am really curious what happen with Reinbacher after the WC...

Also really curious about your ranking of Moore? You just don't feel like he has the offensive upside?

I'd be feeling super good today if Hughes' comments resembled Griers.

Hughes just sounded like someone who was telling us all the reasons why we are passing on Michkov.
I disagree. If Michkov really was a no draft, why wouldn’t he put out the fire now? I genuinely believe Michkov is the target.

Also, kind of interesting how some of the Russian posters on this board and on twitter are saying that Montreal is a preferred destination and that it’s more likely something could be worked out for him coming over earlier if Montreal were to select him. Montreal is one of the most popular teams in Russia, and I’m sure going to a Canadian team would be easier than to an American one.

Hallander isnt a bust hes still developping.
You probably spent more time typing that than watching the players lol

Basically that the contract situation wasn't a concern for them.

Ehhhh, I think most GMs including HuGo aren't too worried about the contract. It's the "will he ever actually come over" part that is risky. If michkov is available at 5 I think they make the right decision.

I hope

He is so easier to draft than Mailloux and maybe even Slaf when all the building scream for fckng Wright.

Btw, have you heard Grier? Its doubtful Michkov is there at 5 but we will see.
Yea and he got backfire big time for the Mailloux pick, that's why I think like many that he won't draft a Russia at 5. I hope I am wrong though.

Great list thanks for sharing that!! :)

I am really curious what happen with Reinbacher after the WC...

Also really curious about your ranking of Moore? You just don't feel like he has the offensive upside?
Moores offensive upside is that of a 2nd liner. He could be a 60 points guy, very useful. I see a pretty certain path to the NHL for sure, and hed be much higher in another draft year.

If he just had a better set of hands and processing speed to go with his insane athletic ability. Then again, if he did hed probably be out of reach of the Habs, lol.

Unlike Mailloux, a largepart of the fanbase seems to want Michkov tho.

But its true that it backfired big time. We will see.

They get cancelled either way.

If the habs were to ever openly refuse to draft a player because of their nationality or if they draft a Russian because he's from the same country as Putin.

In the end, it doesn't matter what 1899 twitter virgins will say.

2016 NHL Draft:

1. Auston Matthews
2. Patrik Laine
3. Pierre Luc Dubois
4. Jesse Puljujarvi
5. Olli Juolevi
6. Matthew Tkachuk
7. Clayton Keller

2023 NHL Draft:

1. Connor Bedard
2. Adam Fantilli
3. Will Smith
4. Leo Carlsson
5. Matvei Michkov
6. David Reinbacher
7. Zach Benson

Guys, let's not make it hard on ourselves, just pick Matvei Michkov. Let's not overthink this and end up like Vancouver in 2016 and drafting Juolevi over Tkachuk. And who knows, maybe this year's Pierre-Luc Dubois is Will Smith. Columbus not afraid to go against consensus and surprise us. If so, it means we get a chance at Carlsson or Michkov.

Idk about you guys but I really hope management and Molson have the balls to take Michkov. He has the potential to arrive and be an instant superstar lile Kaprizov. Who else not named Bedard can have such an impact?
Fantilli, Carlsson and Smith 😛

Pretty sure Bedard, Fantilli, Smith and Carlsson will all be gone by the time we pick
Then no player can have an impact similar to Michkov.

Also i am not sure neither of those guys (except Bedard) will be gone by the time we pick. Especially if he is present at the combine and the draft, may go before we pick, leaving us with one of the other 3.

Why would he come out and say a specific player is a no draft? That would be horrible strategy. At the very least you will have calls if Michkov makes it to 5.

I swear if they pick Dvorsky over Michkov... I won't be alone in thinking they better win a f'ing cup before that KHL contract expires because otherwise I don't believe there's a way this wont be a historically bad move. Nothing against Dvorsky or the other prospects, but right now there is just that big of a gap.

Everyone in town is talking about Michkov, and the subject isn't that they are scared he won't come over, or that it's wrong to pick Russians, or anything political, no, it's that Thumbface will outsmart himself and pass. That 5th pick actually is a huge blessing but they got to do the right thing.

You got to sift through the empty GM talk to find a sliver of what's going on in Hughes mind in this interview and I'm not encouraged by it.

I agree but I have a tiny bit of copium around the idea that the Sharks are essentially locked in to another 3 years of tanking and might be convinced to swing for the fences on Michkov with the knowledge they'll have another 3 high picks coming up to get a center in a future draft.

The Sharks need a C prospect but they need prospects everywhere. Their top 2 prospects right now are Eklund and Mukhamadullin, they're still a long long way away. I still think they'll just take Carlsson but there's a plausible line of reasoning that would encourage them to go Michkov.
It's a super long shot. Yeah Michkov is as talented as it gets but high end 6ft3 no.1 centers are such a rarity and usually the first foundational piece rebuilding teams aim for.

Then you add the external elements surrounding Michkov and its even more of a no brainer.

The fan base is clearly begging for Michkov. He wouldn’t need to outright call him a ND, but he could throw some cold water on it. Instead he was pretty non committal one way or the other.
