The drop off out of the top tier is too harsh for Anaheim to consider anything like that. Fantilli isn't far off Matthews. He will be their finishing jewel.

BA is going to have to go Buffalo mode and just accumulate absurd amounts of assets until it floats the boat.

I hope it works better than Buffalo.

I can think of 5 truly generational talents over the past 40 years:

Lemieux - multiple cups, saved team, then bought the team.

Lindros - refused to play for Quebec, traded to Philly. Assets from the trade, including Forsberg, played large role in Colorado winning multiple cups.

Crosby - multiple cups

McDavid - no cups yet

Bedard - ????
Ovie > Lindros

Dummies often like to call the Coyotes the disgrace of the league but I think the Hawks are the only real disgrace in the league.

Whatever. I'm not going to get hung up on them getting Bedard. A star player doesn't make a championship.

Was widely considered the best Russian prospect of all time IIRC
Fair enough. And Ovie’s impact has obviously been massive…historically massive. And he led to Caps to a Cup and might have more if not for the Pens.

I’m glad he’s on an American team. Those insufferable Canadian journalists can watch another 25 years watching US teams win the Cup.

Getting a star certainly doesn't hurt though.

Chicago winning could be totally organic, and I don't even think they should have lost a pick because someone in the org is a PoS, but them winning feels like a slap in the face none the less. They have now officially passed LA as my most hated team, with Edmonton and Toronto in a tie for 3rd.

I hope they botch this rebuild and spend 25 years in obscurity.
