GDT: 2023 NHL Draft Lottery - 5:00pm (AZ) - ESPN

I reject the premise that the lottery does anything significant to discourage tanking. Even at these terrible odds teams are tanking like crazy. Completely random would probably do more to discourage tanking than this stupid convoluted system they have now.

But I also reject the premise that tanking is actually bad for the league. It's bad in the MLB but the MLB has no cap so the incentives are radically different. In the NHL no one team can completely overload its roster so the talent is necessarily more distributed.
Dude relax, #1 picks don't mean anything for Stanley Cup success...look at Boston!

Jesus don't even start with that. I can't take another year of tanking to be disappointed again. I'm not even going to Google Cole Eiserman. Just f***ing noooooo
Doesn't matter what I say, team will probably get better. Only way we're winning is a lottery anyways, just like it has been and always will be. Would be nice to win one though.

Organization had their slapped over the Kyle Beach situation.

Now they get Bedard.
Yeah but to be fair that was merely sexual misconduct, the Coyotes took measurements of players before other teams could take measurements of players. Measurements!!!! You can't let something like that stand, it's morally wrong and you must make an example of them.

Chicago also covered it up and didn't disclose it, then that person went on to abuse minors. Should have gotten an SMU style death sentence for five years, not Bedard.

I can think of 5 truly generational talents over the past 40 years:

Lemieux - multiple cups, saved team, then bought the team.

Lindros - refused to play for Quebec, traded to Philly. Assets from the trade, including Forsberg, played large role in Colorado winning multiple cups.

Crosby - multiple cups

McDavid - no cups yet

Bedard - ????

I am just happy we never lost the Ottawa pick and never dropped down …

I think Michkov drops as well … maybe we can grab with the 12th…

some teams aren’t going to want to take the risk not to mention have to wait 3 years for a top 4 to 12 pick

My preferred system would be a straight draft order rotation. Every 32 years each team picks 1OA.
