On a stanley cup winning team? Not a lot of 21 y/o player would crack a top 6 that just won the cup
Landeskog was injured all year, Burakovsky was traded away, Kadri signed elsewhere, Nichuskin missed 30 games, Mackinnon missed 11.

Call a spade a spade, he wasnt able to establish himself and its pretty much on him. Doesnt mean hes a bust, but it is what it is. No need to make up random excuses.

He is sure closer to play those minutes than any 2nd rounder we pick this year, which is even more speculation to throw him under the bus to pick prospects that we haven't even seen play in the NHL

Thats not the point... you opay for a player you dint need, also you "hope" he becomes a good top 6 forward

He was Hughe's player, thats the only reason why we traded for him

The rebuild was over when they signed Suzuki and Caufield to 8 year deals.

At that point you've established your window. It's in the next 8 years.

That's why he is trading for players in the same age range. And drafting physically mature players that have a high chance of being in the NHL right away.

Rolling the dice on long-shots in the 2nd round isn't going to help the current core win a cup.

Is this the right approach? I don't know, but that's what the team is doing.

At least they have a plan and are not purely reacting like Bergevin.

Hopefully their plan works.
