I want to hate so much.

But I can’t. That escapability is already top notch and he can probably be at least a 2 zone carrier. Lots to like
So many plays I’m like oh no what are you doing because it looks like he’s going into danger with no regard for how close the opposing player is but he gets out with the puck every time lol

Yeah obviously some of that is not going to fly against better competition but it looks more like hes doing it because he KNOWS he can get away with it there rather than making bad decisions and getting away with them because he's so much better than everyone else. Plenty of clips in there where there is pretty tight coverage around him and he does all the right things to create and keep separation. Only real criticism is that some of his outlets have too much heat on them. I would have loved to see him play at the U18's but thats obviously not happening.

Obviously have no idea how his defensive game is but I don't really care at this time. Saw one clip where he made a great read on a rush where he stepped up, intercepted the pass and took it the other way, thats an advanced enough read where I know he's not completely inept and he's turning it into offense. He'll have the same issues that all undersized D have but there less of an issue for him because he can wheel himself out of trouble.

But theres 0% chance the Rangers take him. Theres a better chance they use their 1st on me than there is that they use one on a 5'10" (if thats accurate? EP is off alot and kids grow) Russian PMD. Brindley is still my guy but this kid checks a lot of boxes too.

I remember the Rangers drafting Leetch and he was undersized and at that time was really not good for a defenseman. The Hockey News draft issue and there weren't a lot of draft sources back then wondered if whoever drafted him would convert him to a center......and then months later Leetch was wowing everyone with the US National Team and at Boston College. What helped him was he was constantly in motion and he had excellent timing for making offensive and defensive plays though his defense at that point still needed a lot of work.

It's still tough for smaller puck moving defensemen. Sometimes the issue is more their defensive play or their ability to handle much bigger players that can make them a liability in their own end. Losing confidence in their defensive play often also will hamper a player's offensive game. The thing with a Maker or a Fox also is they were moving into teams that needed their offense....needed a real No. 1 guy. Both are pretty good defensively as well. Body position.....stick position. It's a real skill and some players might have other skills but that one can be very hard to learn. Also Makar can really hit hard if you leave yourself open.

I'd be happy to grab Heidt.
We can hire Doug Weight to train him.

They won't take this guy even if they had the 2nd pick.

And the center obsession is dumb. It's very likely that a C won't be the BPA when the Rangers pick.
The last number of years I've wanted a center, but with our top 3 centers locked up for at least the next 4 years, it's not longer a pressing need.

Right now, I want someone who skates really well. Preferably a forward, but a LHD works too.

I wouldn’t say it’s dumb, it’s the most important position in hockey, we are also in prime position to take the best one and let him develop the next 3-4 years, and he can form an important part of the core when Trochek is gone, eventually being a 1-2 punch with Chytil.

But yes it’s very possible center is not the BPA. But it should be high on our wish list.

I'd argue goalie is more important but I take your point.

Gunna go before where NYR pick. I think he has an outside shot to go top 10 to a defense desperate team.

Teams are still going to be gun shy about taking Russian players though I don't know what his contract status is. Can easily see him going to Detroit with their NYI pick.

Even if he slips to us, we aren't taking him.

KHL players can unilaterally terminate their KHL contracts if they have more than 18 months left.
Not exactly, they need to do it 18 months beforehand: so if Michkov would want to get out of the last year of the contract and therefore terminate it in May, 2025 he should notice his team about it already in this November. Knowing SKA it is very likely that he will get superglued to the bench right from that moment for all those 18 months.
