Obviously first choice is to trade down but I could be sold on Simashev. But I don’t think he is there. Think this D class (besides not being that good) craters quick. If they can’t trade down and Simashev is on the board… yeah I take a chance on the 6’4 guy over the small forwards likely to be on the board.

Tried to get there on Musty, but couldn’t do it. If I am rolling the dice on a big winger I’d rather take But. Speaking of getting bigger, Edstrom I think makes sense. If you want to go off the board, I might roll the dice on the Danish kid Molgaard. I like Sawchyn.

That’s kind of where I stand right now

I'm on team trade up. I wanna move from 23 to ~17-18 and grab someone who falls (Brayden Yager, Gabe Perreault, etc) I wanna swing for the fence with this pick. Unfortunately we don't have much to deal other than a '24 2nd.

I would prefer to take a skill power forward with speed and can be a pain in the ass to pay against at 23; if none is available at 23, I would trade down, get a couple extra picks, maybe an early 2nd+ (I don't know what they can get). In a deep draft like this, you can get a couple of nice pieces; they won't bring immediate help, but it's always good to keep the cupboards filled.

I know this team is trying to win now and the kids taken now are 2-5 years away. But you need something for when the Kreider/Trouba/Panarin/Zibanejad core are traded or enter the downside of their careers. You hope Kakko/Lafreniere/Miller have taken over as the leaders/difference makers as to where this team is heading (Fox/Shesterkin are already there). I would prefer to draft and develop and not have to sign a bunch of UFAs or give up a million assets in trades; I know Vegas just won the Cup with only 1 drafted by them player in the lineup; we'll see if that's a trend or an abberation.

If I am trading up, it’s not going to be for Yager. But I doubt there is any realistic ammo to do that anyway. If I trade up I’d be looking at like Oliver Moore more so than Perreault, but I think Perreault is going to climb a bit and could go earlier than anticipated. I think in that 15-30 range going to be a lot of similar players.

I would not like that pick. I really hope its some North American kids or Europeans playing in North America already, playing in WHL OHL OR QMJHL.

I prefer 17 yo kids that played against men all day long. Specially if he's 6"5 200 lbs, can playmake, skate and has a two-way game.

My Russian wishlist:
1. Daniil But - huge upside as a two way menace
2. Dimitri Simachev - huge upside as DD.
3. Aydar Suniev - steal in the late 2nd rd

I don't care for Gulyayev, small OFD.
Michkov won't happen so idc

I've seen But drafted by us in at least a couple mocks lately. To me there's a difference between him and Michkov, Simashev and Gulyayev. He's much more of a project than those other 3 in that he's still growing into his body and he needs to pretty much improve in all areas to be NHL ready. The other three already could get by to some degree if they were thrown into the deeper end of the pool. They have some NHL readiness already.

With yesterday's news there is again more uncertainty and potential risk with Russian players. Things might clear up in a week or two but things could also devolve into a civil war. One might also wonder if their Ukrainian front is going to collapse and what that would mean. It may drop someone down our way but also Drury might not even want to go there and it's not like Kravtsov our last major Russian project went very well.

Based on your argumentation, I don't see the difference. You say But is not NHL ready, then the others aren't either, they all need to improve.
Michkov is way to immature bodywise and in his defensive play.
Gulayeyev is inefficient in the D zone and very small.
Simachev will have improve his play in the offensive zone or he will get torched on the blue line.

No offense to anyone but no Euros, no Russians, nothing cute and off the board. Unless they are already in North America playing in NCAA or CHL proving they're already committed to the process.

Draft players that are going to play. We don't need extradition issues, we dont need players already under contract in the KHL, we don't need the added drama.

Say what you want to say. We don't need another Kravtsov issue

And obviously I don't mean that in any other kind of way.

My main concern is adding players to the system that will play. We have wasted enough picks on players that either won't come, want to leave, or can't come due to contractual issues or other extenuating circumstances.

Rangers have to stock the system with players committed to the process of developing and working their way up to get a shot with the NHL club.

I have no ill will against any player that has at least tried and sees blockages due to players higher up in the pecking order and want an opportunity elsewhere. Right, because as players they want to succeed and play. But my concern is some players don't even want to go through the process.

Ryan Graves came to mind although I believe they could have found a spot for him and same goes for Lundkvist.

Good timing for these Russian kids. They should maybe think about leaving a day or two earlier for Nashville for the draft. They will have the chance to claim political asylum.

Former 1st round pick center Jay O'Brien would be a solid pick up. Physical enter. RH center with some physical play. MA kid. Worth the risk.

I like these moves. Drury should be filling the system with these guys. They can play in Hartford and develop there.

After Bob McKenzie's list came out, if most of the players before 23 get drafted and nobody falls that the Rangers are extremely high on and if we don't trade down, I think the New York Rangers will draft Quentin Musty.

Has the frame of a power forward. Musty explained. "Like I think I have a lot of playmaking attributes as well and I think that's makes me get the plays I am right now. I think I have the qualities of a power forward just because of my size and speed and I'm not afraid to go to the corners and stuff, but I think my games are a lot more developed than just to be that."

These days, he likes to watch and emulate Ottawa's left winger Brady Tkachuk. "He's a big guy and he uses his frame and size as well, but also kind of knows when to use a skill. And he's not afraid of getting in the dirty areas and competing for pucks that way. So I like to watch him and try him on the game after him."

26 goals and 78 points in his 53 games. Started the season slowly with mono. If Musty had played a full season of 68 games, he probably would have scored over 100 points.

Powerful, physically gifted winger with a heavy release. Skating has progressed were it is a plus. Plays center and LW. What's not to like?

If we do trade down, these are some of the players that I like and would be happy with:

David Edstrom - C
Charlie Stramel -C/RW
Andrew Cristall - LW
Anton Wahlberg - C/LW
Carson Rehkopf - C/LW
Koehn Ziemmer - RW
Gracyn Sawchyn - C
Nick Lardis - RW - favorite dark horse.
Ethan Gauthier - RW
Easton Cowen - RW
Oscar Fisker Molgaard - C

later rounds:

Carrey Terrance - C
Aydar Suniev - LW
Caden Price - D
Juray Pekarcik - LW
Zachary Nehring - RW
Tristan Bertucci - D
Brady Cleveland - D

Juha Jatkola - G

And with the 23rd selection of the 2023 draft, the New York Rangers are proud to select Quentin Musty.

Good luck to us!

I wouldn't mind Musty who I really like but gut feeling it's Gavin Brindley who is familiar with one of the new Rangers coaches having played for U18 this past year for team USA. Brindley tenacious and hard worker. Seems like a fit. And has skills. Can skate too
