Why not just pick the best RW available. Wouldn’t that be the smart decision? If Brindley is available, I bet he is the Rangers pick in round 1
I hear ya, but most NHL GMs say they never pick for immediate need being that most players are 3 or so years away from contributing and it that time needs changer. So they pick BPA in most scenarios. That's what they say in pre and post draft interviews at least.

Personally I agree. I'd be looking for a quality RW. Especially if all things are equal.

RW and 2ed or 3rd line center wouldn’t be so bad. I would not mind a Brandon Dubinsky pick in the 2ed or 3rd round a center that has size grit and skill that can play in the top 6 or top 9. I hope for another Dom Moore type with the 3rd or 4th round pick. Rangers need to bring back the Dubinsky Callahan D.Moore J.Fast type of drafting. Picking good players in the 2ed 4th and 6th rounds that is a forward

Corey Pronman did his annual 7 round Mock Draft (take it fr what it's worth) and had these selections for the Rangers:

New York Rangers
23. Calum Ritchie, C, Oshawa (OHL)
91. Larry Keenan, D, Culver Academy (HIGH-IN)
152. Ivan Anoshko, C, Dinamo-Shinnik Jr. (RUSSIA-JR.)
178. Gavyn Thoreson, RW, Andover (HIGH-MN)
183. Juha Jatkola, G, Kalpa (FINLAND)

Here is the complete draft:

No issues with taking Ritchie either. There are not many players I’d be upset with in this first round.

I see teams promoting the draft with videos like this

It's a shame rhe Rangers have a GM that is camera shy. Why haven't the Rangers upgrade their media availability? Are the Rangers the worst in all sports at promoting their organization? Its pretty pathetic.

You always go BPA.

i do think there is a chance Brindley could be BPA thought, but you have to remember, the Rangers probably aren’t getting an immediate contributor at 23. You take BPA and it buys you some time to sell off on existing assets you don’t want. That’s when you get your right wing

The same people bitching about the Rangers being camera shy would be the same people Bitching about leaks getting out. There is no obligation to let us know what they are doing and that’s fine. If anything Briere already proved he is smarter than Drury by staying the hell away from Doug Armstrong

If the draft falls this way, I hope NYR can jump ahead of 80 to get Sawchyn. Similar with Pinelli or Levis in the 4th. Also wouldn't mind Ratzlaff or Knuble in the 5th. Does anyone have insight on Jordan Tourigny? Seems like an interesting pick in the 6th. According to EP he's ranked anywhere from 56th to 119th.

No fan is ever mad about getting more information about their team, how they are working and what they are thinking/doing. This is a fake argument.

But, yeah, I guess they aren't obligated to provide us information. However, other Organizations are providing what you could say is a better product by bringing fans into the know. Their prospect games, camps, fan-team activities are often successful and I have been shocked living in both Raleigh and San Jose by how many up and coming prospects the general fans know and can discuss.

Please. You need to go back and look at fan reactions when things were leaking out like a runny faucet. People just feel entitled to this kind of access nowadays.

Neither Raleigh nor SJ have the media presence that is here so there isn’t as big a microscope and they can get away with more. Yeah they run more events but that has never mattered to NY which is a different kind of market

With the early playoff exit, this just really, REALLY burns!!! This was the draft to hang onto these selections.

Traded down with Det, 23 & 91 for 41-43. Kicking myself for simming straight to our picks, bc Musty was available mid 30s

When has information ever leaked out of this Org and people been mad about it? The 90s under Neil Smith? Why would fans ever be upset by that? I only ever see fans upset that there is no information. Though, I guess if it drives the "insiders" crazy it isn't so bad. Perhaps you are referring to trade requests and the disgruntled young players recently? I saw plenty mad about that. Not at the Rangers though. Haha

As for the bolded, what are those Orgs "getting away with"? A positive team-fan experience? Building a knowledgeable and supportive community around the team so it will be a healthy franchise moving forward?

You are right that New York is a different kind of market. Perhaps that isn't such a good thing though. Only in New York and amongst New Yorkers would things like this be seen as bad, nefarious or entitled.

There would be few picks at 23 I'd be unhappy with. That said, the move is to trade down with Chicago or Anaheim for a pick in the 30's, and an additional 2nd and late 2nd or early 3rd round pick. After 20ish, there's little to separate 21st overall from 40th, for example.

Ziemmer for example scored 40 goals and 90 points in the WHL in his draft year and is projected as a 2nd rounder. This would be a top 15 pick in the draft just about every other year.

I'd want two swings in the top 40 rather than one at 23rd overall if it can be pulled off.

It’s not bad juju, it’s just the truth.

Depending on his contractual status over seas he may slip beyond round 1 and we still wouldn’t take him.

Thank vitaly.
I really hope it wouldn’t. BPA is BPA.

I do agree, in general though, that ruskies are unlikely but that skating should be the exception. Hughes or Makar type of skating changes things

I’d be happy with Ritchie. Dropping because of injury plagued season

Here is the complete draft:

Thoreson was someone on the watchlist this year.. he's one of many to watch for later in the draft. Another one of those undersized boom or bust types. In terms of skill he probably shouldn't land where ever he's going to. He's in the same boat as Jayson Shaugabay. 2 guys that were in the top 3 for scoring in Minnesota HS hockey. Both of which transitioned really well to the USHL before going back to HS hockey and then rejoining the USHL later in the season. Thoreson scored at a point per game rate in the USHL, Shaugabay a notch below. Shaugabay has been ranked as high as the 2nd round, where as the highest I've seen Thoreson is late in the 3rd. The consensus has both of them anywhere from a middle to late round pick.

A few of those guys have been talked about but Cam Johnson is worth making a post about. Same sort of mold as the 2 players above. If you look at his numbers this year they won't impress you but theres some reason to take a chance later in the draft. Think there was some real interest going into the year, he was coming off a fantastic D-1 season in the BCHL. He produced much like some of the other BCHL products in their D-1.. Newhook, Jost, Turris.. he switched over to the USHL this year and joined the Chicago Steel.. they've become a factory for prospects. Lots of competition for a top 6 spot. Theres been a few good prospects that got caught in the numbers game there. Doan's son was in the same boat his draft year. Taken as an overager the following season in a larger role. Wouldn't surprise me if we see another overager or 2 taken from the Steel this year.

As for Kai, he's committed to Harvard. Elite Prospects has him going next season. Former Steel, Coronato and Farrell have signed NHL deals, Laferriere as well. They'll be gone, there should be opportunity at Harvard but it's a big jump. Damn near the entire forward group from the Steel will be gone next season. 2024 top prospect Michael Hage is about the only one remaining at the moment. To me, it would make a lot of sense for Kai Johnson to stay with the Steel another year. Real opportunity to grab a top 6 spot, and if recent history tells us anything he has a good chance to thrive there.

I was going to make a post this month of players to look out for in the middle and later rounds but never really got around to it yet. Made a post about overagers which would land in those areas but Thoreson, Shaugabay and Kai Johnson would definitely be on that list

Button was a big fan of Kravtsov, having ranked him as the #1 NHL prospect a few years back a year or so after he was drafted. Maybe he thinks the rangers will go with another tall, rangy Russian winger, but I’d be shocked if they take But. Kid sounds like an intriguing prospect but can’t see Drury going there.

If he's still around Simashev would be the way to go. I have some doubts he will be. He is signed with his KHL team for two more years. That said like K'Andre once he signs with us there is a great likelihood he bypasses Hartford altogether and goes straight into the Rangers lineup. Two full seasons in the KHL should serve him well anyway.

I would not like that pick. I really hope its some North American kids or Europeans playing in North America already, playing in WHL OHL OR QMJHL.
