Unless this is wrong it says Luke Krys is under 6'
This says 6'2", i misrecalled when typed 6'3"

I've been reading some places that Simashev is climbing big time. Potentially a Seider type of rise.

I've been stuck on Gulyayev and Simashev. Either one solidifies our top4 for the future.

Stenberg also has Drury's name written all over him.

Gotta be way old, no way he's been playing NCAA hockey for three years and still weighs 146.

His team bio has him at 6'2" and 185: Luke Krys - Men's Ice Hockey - Brown University Athletics
Yeah i like HockeyDB cuz its a simple site, that is easier to visit on my phone, and in general easier to view trades and draft history, but they often dont update physical changes over time, and often even a player changing teams, at other than NHL level, dont get updated until the next season begins (note that hockeydb doesnt have Krys w PC)
Which is why I bookmark EliteProspects as well

I mentioned in the prospect thread I saw a lot of Bookman watching Merrimack/Ollas last season. He is exciting offensively. Skates well and dishes it well. I don't think he's great defensively and he's on the small side but he's an interesting one.
Thanks for the feedback. Was curious.

Krys has size 6'3" and experience, 3 seasons at Brown w a USHL season after freshman, then wore A when back and C last. Due to transfer to Providence, which has legit title hopes, so thats encouraging

Other 2 are both
small '02's with only 1 season of NCAA
Thanks for the feedback. Krys looks intriguing; need depth on the right side.

Rangers should sign RW Avery Hayes and LD Samuel Mayer teammates of Brennan Othmann. Both fit a need in the Rangers organization

I really want more kicks at the can in this draft. It would be ideal if someone would trade us a second rounder for Goodrow.

I do like the concept of trading down from 23, but I don’t think that I personally could bring myself to pass on one of Heidt/Brindley/Gulyayev if they are there.

I watched this little profile on Brindley last night. Character. Chip on his shoulder. Worked for everything he has. These are important traits. The anti-VK. He’s also a GREAT skater.

Probably would have been a good player to land at 29 if we still had our second 1st round pick....

Yeah, if we pick Brindley at 23, I'm pissed. There will be players with better skills and higher upside.

Played wing to Fantilli in Michigan. His skating is great, agile and fast. Good two-way forward.

His size is a big weakness and it will take years for him to adapt to win a board battle in the NHL.

Best case he's a middle six two-way forward, a 2nd rd pick, imo.

Opinion and chances Rangers can draft these prospects:

I don’t know. I get Joel Farabee vibes off of him. I’d be more than happy with a player like that in the late first.

I will say though, if Gulyayev is still available I have a very, very hard time not pulling that trigger. I am not going to get my hopes up on him though because I can’t see Dru taking a Russian defenseman with a premium pick.

For once I would accept Drury's Position on something, if he's not wasting a premium pick on Russian D.

Simachev is a dud in the 1sr rd. Dude is big but soft, he can skate, but his offense is bad. He can't shoot at all from the point. That's not a 1st rd talent at all.

Gulyayev is the next small offensive defenseman which should disappoint his team, when picked in the first. Where are all these guys from previous drafts? All the lundvists and boqvists. Exceptional skating and great offensive tools and IQ. Bad defense and featherweight of a player. I remain certain that the NHL just eats them alive. Same goes for ASP.

I'd just avoid Russia all together unless the team that takes the players can smuggle them out of the country in the dead of night. Elaborating further would get me in trouble here.

What about Russians or Europeans currently playing in juniors in North America? they can always go back to their country if they don’t like the team that drafts those players

Different story if they're in North America already.

Agree that defense overall is weak this year. Value to be had with bottom pairing guys with high floors in the middle rounds, but except for maybe Gulayev, no gamebreaking talents.

There are no premium D in this draft. I’m ducking that position entirely, especially in the first round. This is not the time to chase Dmen
I think there are some guys that could have second pairing upside and be useful NHL players down the line. A lot of this crop is boring but efficient in how they play, which I think would be useful for restocking some depth in the system.

If we manage to pick up a few more mid-round picks, I think some are worth a shot. Otherwise, we should 100% be going forward at 23

Those are the mid-late round "hope picks" you go for. Not 20-year-old goons or goalies who get hot for a playoff series.

Europeans with a lot of skill or really great at one attribute.

Yeah I mean mid rounds sure but don’t think any Dman is carrying value for where the Rangers are picking at. I’m always BPA anyway; and I think there is a about a zero percent chance it’s anything other than forward.

Reinbacher may have top pairing upside, I just don't see any chance he's available at our pick. Simashev would make a lot of sense at our spot. Those types of defenceman project really well. Good size, good skater, most importantly a good defender. Brought his name up plenty... Nikishin is probably one of the best D prospects on the planet right now. He was not some offensive dynamo when he was drafted. Brady Skjei was not an overly productive college player. He had 18 goals this year, 3 seasons where he was a c*** hair under 40 points. Mo Seider is another one who's been far more productive in the NHL then he was in the AHL/SHL/DEL. Their tools allow them to add offense to their game as they develop. Defense is their foundation. You're not picking Simashev because his numbers are special, he's just a good overall defender that has the tools to add some offense.

I mostly agree, but to pass on a kid whose skating is consistently compared to a Hughes brother would be very, very difficult.

I again can’t really see Drury using this first on a finesse Russian defenseman but Gulyayev looks like the kind of player that you scratch your head thinking “how did he get passed up so many times”?
