Motte isn't slow, I didnt think sykora was that fast.

think comments on his speed conflate speed with skating ability and pace. like the rangers actually have a pretty "fast" team, but they don't have many guys who "play fast" aka high paced. that's why motte stands out the way he does in the lineup, he's always buzzing. a lot of guys who are known for being "fast" have that reputation because they're quick and play a high paced game with short area dynamism/great edges, yet in an end to end race or lap around the sheet they would be middle of the pack. sykora is a guy that plays fast is the best way i can describe it.

The rangers have 3 guys who have the acceleration to easily pull away from someone,
Miller, Mika, Chytil.
Motte doesn’t have the acceleration but he does move fast and he plays with that high speed all shift.

It appears that Harvard senior forward John Faranacci, a 3rd round draft choice of Arizona, will not sign with the Coyotes and will be a free agent in mid August unless traded by Arizona. Faranacci is from Red Bank New Jersey and was a key player on the 2020 US WJC team and tied Matt Boldy for fourth in team scoring and a teammate of Brett Barnard. The Rangers should be very familiar with him as they are following Harvard draft choice, David Karpa. Elite Prospects lists him as a center but he is a right handed shot. Although his family are Ranger fans, he grew up liking the Penguins because of Crosby. Farinacci family affair: What got New Jersey native John Farinacci to the 2019 NHL Draft

And QU's Skyler Brind A'mour plans to become a free agent on August 15.

I was not particularly impressed with Farinacci. I didn't know he was a candidate not to sign so I didn't pay much attention specifically to him, but I don't really remember him standing out in any kind of meaningful way. In any event I'd be fine bringing him in; free depth is free depth.

Hard to see Brind'Amour not signing with Carolina. However, wouldn't mind the Rangers getting him. Responsible player for sure.

Again though, with not as many picks in the next few drafts, hope the Rangers sign some of these guys. Really would like them to grab a RW. If I am not mistaken, there are currently no RWs signed and destined for Hartford at this time. Should be a few signings this over the course of the summer and that's always exciting.

I don't know if that is his desired location though. Playing for your dad could lead to issues in the press and organization in terms of favoriates, etc. I think if there is one place he WON'T be playing it's Carolina.

That's my take on it as well.

The Rangers should be trying to scoop up a few of these guys

He projects as a 4th liner in the NHL from what I have seen of him. Good on faceoffs.

From NY
Mastrosimone is from East Islip but grew up an Islander fan. Small, left wing, doesn't seem the Rangers need to add another small left wing to their prospect pool.

Like you I didn't pay attention to him because he had been drafted but do remember him being pretty effective in the 2020 WJC US team that was led by Trevor Zegras and included Brett Barard.

As we're starting to hear about drafted NCAA players who won't sign with their teams, I remembered a February article by Corey Pronman that focused on upcoming free agents. At the end of the article he mentioned some players who he thought might become free agents. Faranacci, Mastrosimone and O'Brien were on the list. Chicago pick Jake Wise from Ohio State and Colorado pick Matt Stienberg from Cornell were the other forwards on the list who have not yet signed. No Kevin Hayes or Jimmy Vesceys here.

I also noticed that Flyers 2019 7th round pick, RW Bryce Brodzinski from Minnesota has not signed. If he isn't signed perhaps he can be the fourth Brodzinski brother who have played for the Rangers organization joining older brothers, Johnny, Michael and Easton. :)

the first part is nuanced and situational, list can be longer or empty depending on the details. neither here nor there though, only thing i was saying is sykora's skating is more than adequate and he'll look fast out there because of his style. he's also really young for his draft year and physically still looks like a kid so stands to reason there's quite a bit of development there. that acceleration and top end speed will increase naturally as he grows up, there's no technical issue restricting anything.

Isn't David Karpa 20 years too old for college hockey?

I do vaguely remember that.

At Harvard obviously I was watching for Karpa, but otherwise you'd notice a lot of Laferierre, Farrell, and of course Coronato. Just to be clear I'm not arguing Farinacci was bad, I just noticed those other guys more. I also know Farinacci was injured for a while.

Agree that RW should be a priority. Pajuniemi seems to be either Rangers or Europe next year. Don't see him coming back for a 3rd year in Hartford. Trivigno has played some right wing this year. Rempe will be back but he strictly is a fourth liner. Brodzinski moved to RW with additions of Carpenter and Lescheshyn at center. No right handed forwards on the horizon. Lamp and Chmelar are years away and Hughes and Ciccolini are 7th round picks who may not be signed. I'm not sure any of the NCAA free agents fit the RW bill. A few RW free agents still on the market led by Colin Graf on QU but most are smaller guys who the Rangers tend not to like.

Kreider can still win a race against anyone if he has to. That's not his type of game anymore, but he still has it.

This is my favorite draft eligible player.

When it comes to Leonard’s strengths, take your pick. He’s aggressive. He led the team with 13 power-play goals. He was second in goals, period, with 43. He’s a dominant defensive player. He played all three forward spots this year. Leonard can do it all.

“My best strength may be the way I carry momentum into the game. I think I can change it in a matter of seconds with my physicality and my shot,” Leonard said. “I just want to bring it all to the table. I’m very confident in my game.”

“He plays such a heavy game,” a scout said. “It’s just power all the time, whether it be the way he skates, hits or shoots. Teams make space in the top six for guys like him.”

Too bad Ryan Leonard will be a top 10 pick.
