Worst 2 years of the franchise

Ends up with Slaf a clone of Armia
Mesar insta bust , he even has a bust name.
Reinbacher a glorified Josh Georges while missing Michkov
Then 31+ 37 for a guy that couldn't produce with Makar MacKinnon etc.

Couldn't even get rid of some contracts.

Terrible end of 2022-2023 season.

Not only the medical stuff is out of touch , drafting and Gms is the same garbage. Also f*** you Molson and ur piss beer . Go thank ur dad the reason ur that rich braindead owner
Newhook ~1000 minutes at 5v5 and ~113 minutes on the PP this season.

Of those, he played with :
- Rantanen : ~148 mins at 5v5, ~33 minutes on the PP
- MacKinnon : ~36 minutes at 5v5, ~18 minutes on the PP
- Makar : ~179 minutes at 5v5, ~29 minutes on the PP

That's not playing with Makar, MacKinnon, etc. and certainly not sufficient ice time together with any of them to conclude anything (notably since a lot of those minutes must have been overlapping stuff between line changes, or them playing nearly entire PPs).

Like, no, I don't think Newhook will blossom into something magical either. Just wanted to do some fact checking on that specific statement.

In a few years:

Caufield - Suzuki - Roy
Slafkovsky - Dach - Newhook
Farrell - Beck - Heineman
RHP - Kidney/Kapanen - Ylonen

Hutson - Reinbarcher
Guhle - Mailloux
Xhekaj - Barron
Engstrom

Montebeault
Dobes

Really need the young forwards to hit their potential

We all know we are not winning anything with this. But I think the D will be solid.
We need a year with multiple forward first-rounders.

Hughes might have wanted to pick Reinbacher because Ds take some time to arrive, so it's better to start the draft with them. Why I would have started by picking Nemec last year... and this year picked a forward.

Even if they hit their potential it’s not a really good lineup, we will be in 10-15th position forever

But at 12 was even more surprising...

I’m still upset but I do feel slightly better after watching some Reinbacher clips. Those are however chosen clips and I need to watch him in an actual game.

At the end of the day he needs to become a top pairing guy or they messed this up big time. Him being a solid 3/4 is not good enough.
He needs to be no 1 pairing with stats to back that up

I actually thought some would understand after seeing Toronto/Edmonton fail each year with all the offensive skills they have, that building a winning team is more then just offensive skills
I thought some would understand after seeing Pittsburgh, Tampa, Colorado and Chicago winning cups with all the offensive skills they have, that building a winning team requires elite offensive skills.

And those teams had all that top #1 Dmen with a strong big top 4

Maybe we're too caught up in the "deep" draft hype. Maybe this is just a regular draft with a generational talent at 1.

Or if it is such a deep draft, getting the best defenseman can't be that bad of a thing, can it?
Credible people think that last year's draft was deeper and that this draft is just overhyped as most drafts are due to recency except for the legit superstars at the top. We'll see in a few years if there's any Becks and Hudsons in the second round.

Clearly Hughes sees Newhook as a second liner or better (he certainly was expected to be one at his draft selection) and you can usually only get third and fourth liners or project defensemen around those ranks and god knows we have enough bottom 6 players.

Not enough.

He needs to become a more impactful player than the guys they would have reasonably drafted instead of him - which includes Michkov.

I said it pre-draft, but there is no "free pass" here for HuGo.

Now you guys know, the moment you hear the beat guys telling you over and over again how they feel a certain prospect is not the pick, it's not the pick. ;)

On top of everything Hughes said about Reinbacher and the fact that he's righty....the other comment about not going for Michkov 'cause as far as the forwards are concerned, Cole, Suzuki and Dach still have plenty to develop is....somethinig else.

Great. So sell all of your picks. This year, next year, and the year after. No need. Cole, Suzuki and Dach are there. lol
Sounds like the kind of dreck that used to come out of Bergevin's mouth, maybe it's just me...

Well in my view we drafted for need, taking the 6th best player available after rushing an Andrew Shaw-esque trade before seeing what would be available at our picks.

To say I'm disappointed would be an understatement. This team has an anaphylactic allergy to elite talent.
Newhook is clearly elite talent in their head, that's why that trade was made!

So, to sum it up, after two years, with picks 1 5, 26, 31, 33, 37, 62 we have:

A middle six LW
Another middle six LW
A guy who MIGHT turn into a bottom 6 RW
A 2/3D
A possible 3C
And a steal in Hutson.

Tonight was gut-wrenching, insulting, infuriating, nauseating.

I'll never trust a word they say or a move they make again until their galaxy-brain picks prove me wrong on the ice. Yeah, I won't hold my breath. This was your last chance to add a franchise forward to this core without gutting the whole team Kent, thanks for blowing it.
Bro take Xanax you seem a little too rattled.

It really doesn't make any sense. Even if there's a possibility he doesn't come to the NHL in 3 years, Michkov would have made for an excellent, highly valuable piece in a trade during the next 2-3 years. Talk about selecting a less valuable asset

I'd say just as much as Weber, and more during their draft year. Weber was Canada's no. 1 D. I've always valued that type of D so I'm biased but although I was on the michkov train, I'm quite content with our D core moving forward. Gotta go get Sorokin next offseason tho
I don’t know if I’d go as far to say I’m content with our D core moving forward because it’s such a giant question mark, but this was a much needed addition. It was so thin going into this draft.

Sportsnet has us as the losers of the draft, along with Arizona. Had to argue with them.
Sportsnet are worthless clowns. I would put more stock in TSN analysts. And are they counting Newhook with Reinbacher.
Now if Hughes was counting on acquiring another late 1st or 2 I would lose confidence because he should know most GM's don't have the balls to even trade a late 1st.
