WC: 2023 Kazakhstan Roster talk

Only because of his numbers in the game against Slovakia, am curious about the 25-year-old goalie Shukov.

Has yet to secure a (starting) spot in the KHL and his numbers the rest of the tournament aren't impressive (though the team has been a bit out-matched).

Is it a question of consistency or are there flaws to his game?
He's all over the place, plays a very unpolished, untamed kind of a game. It looks like he enjoys being too aggressive/creative with his saves.

He really could use a top tier goalie coach. A bunch of his mistakes are just straight up dumb and could easily be fixed.

Sounds like a guy who should spend a year or two in Finland.

His tandem partner on this team with a much calmer style and slightly bigger frame - Nikita Boyarkin - is usually considered to be the better goalie. Shutov only has the edge at this point because he came into the NT camp hot after winning the Kazakh championship while Boyarkin played his last game in the KHL months ago, so probably not in the game shape exactly.

Wrong thread?

Anyway, 7 points and a great campaign for Kazakhstan. Also dare I pump my own tires and say my half-baked prediction was pretty much 100% correct. While today's game was no domination, I doubt the import-filled lineup would have done much better.
