WC: 2023 Kazakhstan Roster talk

3-0. Two third periods goals from Polyakov and Khairullin. Enjoyed watching Nikishin. Michkov barely had a look in but you can see his intelligence. Shame some of the others lack IQ.

A real mess of a team performance despite it being a very young side. That Rotenberg is actually 'coaching' this team is a disgrace. He couldn't coach his way out of a paper bag.

Oh boy, is Kazakhstan in trouble or what. They are currently being routed by a weakish looking Belarus roster, this WC probably will be a rude awakening for many of their fans. Looking forward to seeing inevitable which hunt for a scapegoat after the tournament.

To be honest, considering their junior results, their senior team should be nowhere that putrid so I hope they do some constructive witch finding over there. I would love to find who is to blame for Gatiyatov, Muratov, etc. playing in Mestis or Sayan Daniyar basically playing 3rd line for Saryarka, Musorov playing worse than he did 2 years ago..

Something is rotten in the middle step of that development system.

I'll be lazy and put it down to ridiculous amount of foreigners in their hockey, be it every club team or national team. Kazakh youngsters need to be seriously lucky to get opportunities to break through in adult hockey and more often not they are not lucky. Barys scoop up most of the talent and then they get stuck in their farm team behind C grade Russians that were given out passports the moment they walked through the door.

All that said, I'm positive about about the state of hockey in Kazakhstan, I think they are where Belarus was approximately 15-20 years ago. Arenas in Kazakhstan are popping up left and right, more and more kids have the chance to pick up the stick, hopefully that will lead to quality improvements too, and then just like in Belarus, their domestic league at some point will stop employing hordes of foreign players.

Yeah, much like in Belarus their league/international games are very accessible to watch and they generally have decent production quality. They are definitely on their way and one of the very few countries (once again along with Belarus) where hockey has a legitimate chance to become #1 sport so as much as people celebrate Poland being back to the elite, it stings big time for countries like Kazakhstan.

Therefore my frustration. Even though I only care so much, it would be nice to see their junior success be rewarded, it should mean you have made it. And yet at senior level, they aren't favorites against Slovenia. They just definitely aren't, Slovenia just looks to have far superior forwards and the rest is a tie. Maybe Kazakhs have an edge on defense, by a hair.

That's a good mix of ethnic Kazakhs and Russians. Bodes well for the team if they can incorporate more ethnic Kazakhs and not rely on the Russian minority (meaning ethnic Russians, not imports) so much.

Yup, it's nice to see guys named Jalal-ad-Din playing in the Elite tier of World Champs.

What Kazakhstan is doing now is ultimately good for the sport, even if they do get relegated.

Thanks for jynxing Jalal-ad-Din, he is eventually left out of the final roster :(

Kazakhstan just managed to pull a rabbit out of the hat. Being totally outplayed, outshot 2:1 and having a shaky goalie apparently is not an obstacle. Hilarious that they lost a crucial game against Norway with 10+ imports couple of years ago.

Kazakhstan has more or less one good line, which can hurt teams on PP.

I guess that's the difference when you play just to get a quick money and for something other than that.

My deep analysis after 5 periods here but this team looks just as good as the ones with high and mighty KHL stars.

Did they also got outshot by the margins we have seen so far in this tournament? This is not sustainable lol

Yes they did, that's why Kazakhs were an elevator nation for so long. If they get outshot by Slovenia this badly then fair enough, they suck. But do you think they will?

But do you think they will?
I honestly think they will. If Norway outshot them 34:17, I think Slovenia can too because they also plays similar physical-ish hockey and maybe they finally will expose how raw Shutov really is. Canada will eat him alive with his lack of rebound control for sure.

That said so far Kazakhstan has shown real resilience, bodes well for their survival chances.

Curious if Dietz is going to play or not?
In this tournament definitely not. In future tournaments it depends on whether he gives up his Canadian passport completely, which means.... definitely not...

Only because of his numbers in the game against Slovakia, am curious about the 25-year-old goalie Shukov.

Has yet to secure a (starting) spot in the KHL and his numbers the rest of the tournament aren't impressive (though the team has been a bit out-matched).

Is it a question of consistency or are there flaws to his game?
