Philly is going to win Bedard and the media is going to celebrate it. Historic win for a decorated franchise in the midst of a rebuild, despite their rebuild just beginning last week.

And basically their first rebuild pretty much ever.

As long as we either win Fantilli or Benson drops to our pick because “SMoL BaD” and we pick him because he’s a future star. Either. Of those happen, and I won’t be crying about Bedard going to some team that hasn’t suffered enough.

If we draft my two faves, Benson and Ritchie that gives us an embarrassment of C/W combos:

Keller/Hayton
Maccelli/Cooley
Benson/Geekie
Guenther/Ritchie

^ that’s basically a completed rebuild up-front. And a blueline that has not yet really even begun a rebuild. Lol. Moser, Valimaki, Lamoureux, Duda, Soderstrom, Kolyachonok I guess. But needs MUCH more.

Don’t love Ritchie. Seems to have some lazy in his game.
I haven’t seen that at all. Ive seen a puck hound who works hard, has skill, size and an edge. I think the biggest faults are offensive consistency/upside from a pure skill perspective and some choppy skating with clear hitches in the stride. But it’s effective, if loping and lurching. He’s always looked like a hard worker to me, though. And Scott Wheeler had a great article about him early in the season, highlighting his off-ice commitment and hard work in the gym.

@rt your love for Benson had we watching film on him all night... I think I am finally putting him above Will Smith on my list...

1. Bedard
2. Fantilli
3. Michkov (based on talent... I would prefer the Yotes take Leo here if they had #3... but talent alone he is 3rd)
4. Carlsson
5. Benson
6. Smith
7. Dvorsky
8. Reinbacher

Thats where I am at right now

I ran Tankathon and got shocked.

I think the site is bugged.. I got that 6 times in a row .. but #2 was Ana

A nice thought, but I think that there are maybe five voters in Tempe who know who Connor Bedard is, and I don't think that'll be enough of a swing for us.
If they marketed it like Stamkos was in TB it could change .. not sure they would think of it.. but ya never know

Cristall doesn't have skating issues, he has small player who shies away from contact, can't play defense, and doesn't have the body strength to play in the NHL currently issues. He's been getting a lot better at defense, but he's the kind of player you'll always be concerned will get rocked by a massive hit, get injured, and that'll be it. He doesn't play the kind of style that's conducive to succeeding in the NHL as a small player. He still could succeed, has really high upside and elite skill in some respects.

I really want the Yotes to draft Matt Wood! I think this guy will be a very good NHL player

Benson is the same height and weight. Couldn't you say the same about him?

the further that our pick falls the more the more likely imo (and based on the Geekie selection at 11 last year) that we take more of a project with high upside. Especially with 2 picks that could be back to back.

You guys have been spouting off for the last year that this draft is talent heavy for most of the first round, so why take a project with our picks? IF we have a pick in the top ten I want the closest thing to a sure bet that I can find. Even with our second pick, which is currently at 11th. Time will tell what BA is thinking.

Benson and Cristall don’t play the same way at all. That’s like saying Shane Doan and Peter Meuller were the same height and weight, what’s the difference?
Both are tiny though. Benson may end up injury prone due to his small stature. I mean he is injured right now...

You don't know who is a sure thing no matter what anybody says. Obviously Bedard will most likely be a great player, but after that who knows how good most of these guys will end up. Remember how hyped Lafreniere was?

Some guys put the work in and others don't. I think drafting based on work ethic and character is huge. That is why I am so high on Matt Wood. The kid oozes character.

Are you asking if Benson is small or if he plays Iike Cristall? They are both small, they don’t have similar games.
I am just stating how they are the same height and weight. Benson def plays different than Cristall, but he is small still which worries me.

It still pays to be big in the NHL. We got our fair share of smaller players already. I still will be happy if we draft Benson though don't get me wrong.
