Not the 2023 draft, but "2023 off season business" ... Coyotes rights to Axel Bergkvist, Manix Landry, Emil Martinsen, Aku Raty and Anthony Romano expire this summer. Do you see any of them getting a contract offer? Or are these guys all Chayka draft picks that Armstrong doesn't want?

Bergkvist has been putting up solid numbers in Sweden on the back end, and given how thin the organization is on the blue line, I'd like to see him signed, assuming a spot in Tucson is enough to entice him over. The rest ... ehh ...
EML and Raty should be candidates to sign - I would try to ink Landry to an AHL "show me" deal where he can earn an NHL contract.

I'd like to get one of Stramel, Dragicivec, or Haltunnen with our 2nd.

With the three 3rds we have, Ideally we move back up into the 2nd, but failing that, there's several guys I'd be interested in. Draft is kind of a crapshoot past this point though.

There's so many good players who could be available here. Some rankings still have guys I'd love to take in the 1st or 2nd here. I think Whitelaw, NDN, Kantserov and Rykov would all be good picks here. Possibly Barkey and/or Bonk as well. Draft night will actually be super interesting to me.

EDIT: Also Jarventie and Felix Sorum could be good pickups here or later in the draft. They've both fallen but have talent.

I’d love to get Dragicevic,Stramel, or Halttunen with our 2nd. Not sure they’ll fall that far. I’d be thrilled with Rehkopf, Brzustewicz, or Molendyk there. I liked Bonk at the TPG but haven’t watched enough London. Brindley is pretty awesome for a little guy. If we go with size on the first two picks, I’d be cool with him at our 2nd. Maybe Ziemmer drops? That’d be cool.

Can’t dig much deeper. Haha. He’s out for the season now.
Honzek has played very physical against men in Slovakia at 16. He's on pace to hit 60 points in 46 WHL games in his first year playing in North America. He's 6'4 and 190 lbs. Sounds like a dream power forward to me.
What are his weaknesses?

This is really hard, and I’ll hate this list the very next time I look at it, even if it’s in two hours…

I’m not sure I’m going to bother with rankings this year. I’m just gonna make a list of guys I like in zones of our picks and hope we get a few names from my list.
And in each zone draft for need?

Absolute upside, I’d say. That’s the main one. He’s big and plays a big man’s game but he’s not mean. Good dual threat offensively but doesn’t have that one eye popping strength. He’s like Slafkovsky if he didn’t have those amazing international performances.

I've been a Honzek cheerleader all year. I might be stepping back from that now that he's concussed. Daniil But has the upside and should be available much later.

2 OA Fantilli
11 OA Dragicevic
38 OA But

The defencemen are really starting to rise in the draft. I wonder if we could take two defencemen with our first round picks? Two out of Reinbacher/Dragicevic/Gulyayev and I'll be extatic.

Gulyayev is too short, not a BA type of guy

the way BA talks about hulking Dmen, you know he wants to get them 6'2'' or taller

Size is overrated and Gulyayev has so many strenghts in his skating, passing, finding shooting lanes and defending also. I really hope BA doesn't overlook everyone shorter than 6 feet.

Agree. More to the game than just size. Also, some small guys play big, and vice versa.

Size matters in the playoffs boys. You need big tall bulky D-man when the games get physical. Any D-man under 6'0 better be quinn hughes level good, or I don't want him on the backend for the Yotes!

EDIT: seeing Duda listed at 6’1 everywhere. I don’t buy it. Maybe Russian being banned from international tournaments and Russians skipping the combine has led to some fudged measurements?

Assuming Michkov and Reinbacher are gone, I'd probably lean towards Sale. I don't feel great about that pick, which is why I cheated and showed a lottery win.
Sell me on Sale. I saw one good tourney from him and two bad ones. And then his league play SEEMS (I’ve seen zero league games) pretty “meh”. He’s a supremely smooth, smart, heads up playmaker. But he doesn’t seem very fast, or strong, or energetic, and he seems pretty soft. Is Ales Hemsky the comp?

They seem extremely similar to me. And Hemsky was a very good player. One who would certainly have much more success today without getting brutalized in what was a very different league (both coaching and overall violence levels).

What I’ve put together in my brain from small first hand sample sizes, and larger second hand reading and clips, I’m envisioning a silky playmaker who never goes inside and doesn’t get back very hard. My personal bias really dislikes that particular archetype. I’m a sucker for puck hounds.

rt I think you have a good handle on Sale as a player, but maybe you're too critical of his weaknesses.
1- I think he does go inside. Plenty.
2- I think he skates well, but that will improve with strength.
3- He plays against men and he's a bean pole. When he fills out he'll be stronger in battles.
4- He was a 17 y.o. in a tournament for 19 y.o.'s. He earned a spot on the top line of the silver medal team. Regardless of any weakness shown in that tournament, it was a solid accomplishment.

I think he's really going to shine at the U18s.

I won't be upset if he's not our pick. He just floats to the top of that next grouping for me.

Gotcha. Thanks. He’s at the bottom of that group for me. Hopefully the u18s helps me get a better handle on him.

The Coyotes needs to get an elite level prospect on defence. Are there any coming up in 2024 or 2025? I don't see the Yotes drafting one this year based on where they'll end up likely picking.
