We are getting elite talent in this year’s draft, but so are other teams. With Cooley and this year’s pick we join the 15 or so teams with 2 potential all stars.

IMO the most interesting part of our draft will be Ottawa’s pick and our later round picks. That’s where champions are made. If Geekie and Lamoureux over perform we have quite a team. If the 23 class has a couple of over performers we have ourselves a contender.

Bill's going straight to the Sharks table at the draft. " Hey Mike, we got our arena vote and we're done with the rebuild after this draft. We'll give you all of our seconds for the next 3 years for your number 4 pick." They shake hands and we walk away with Bedard and Michkov and still have the Ottawa pick.

Or next month at the lottery Coyotes move from 4 to 1 and Sens move from 16 to 6. We get Bedard and Michkov and keep the pile of 2nds.

McCagg isn't a super reliable source I don't think, but I agree that the draft outside of Bedard is pretty wide open. Personally I still have Michkov 2nd in talent and than Carlsson and Fantilli but the top 4 is pretty widely open, and then from there it gets even more wild, and I think from 5-10 you could absolutely have 10 or 15 different names pretty easily.

Reinbacher
Smith
Benson
Sale
Yager
ASP
Moore
Barlow
Leonard
Stramel
Cristall
Dvorsky
Molendyk
Ritchie

There's probably at least one guy with one of the D that isn't Reinbacher in the top 10. Huge tossup for a lot of guys between who the best D is, some like ASP, some like Reinbacher, some like Molendyk, some like Simashev, before the season Price and Allen were up there, Bonk, Dragicevic, Strbak. Shit's wide open.

Maybe Reinbacher has crept up there?
We are picking 7th. He's our pick. Do you or hbk have any thoughts on this player? How does he compare to a player like Jiricek or Mateychuk?

After you corrected me on your gender, I guess I should have known, I started to think, for a female you know a lot about hockey, probably know more than any other female I know, and probably more than most male posters on here. Impressive.

Half a dozen? There is no way I can see anyone other than Carlsson, Michkov, Benson or Smith going third. Who would it even be besides those guys? Lol imagine BA drafting Colby Barlow third overall before Michkov, Benson and Carlsson.
Dvorsky, Reidbacher, Sale, Barlow, SandinPellika and possibly Moore. I know Recrutes has Svorsky at 3. Button had Sale in the top 5 more months to start the year.

Man. I’ve seen Dvorsky, Sale, Barlow and SP. I can’t imagine having them over Michkov, Carlsson, Benson or even Smith. I know Benson is small, Michkov is Russian, and Smith is a prone to floating, but the talent gap is tremendous and it’s not as though these newcomers to the discussion don’t have their own flaws.

I think McCagg is riding the high of his Slafkovsky 1st and Wright outside 3rd hottake victory. I think he’s going to be humbled a bit this draft and revert to more cautious opinions by the next one.

He’s obviously got a couple of connections. I suspect he’s amplifying the crap out of a small sample and calling it a consensus or at least a widely accepted opinion that may actually be a fringe.

out of all the guys rumored to go in the top 10 he's the guy I've watched video of the least. He fell into the category of "we are taking a forward with this pick so don't worry about it" and I can now see that I'm going to have to do a bit more work.

I only saw him at the WJC and his team was getting steamrolled every game. I gleaned nothing from watching him at that tourney. Other than he’s tall, right shot, can skate and move the puck and isn’t afraid to at least try to play physical. But mostly he was guy who got lots of ice time while his team was getting blown out.

Exactly...if he were a #1 RHD, he would have stood out at the tournament, flashes of brilliance, something. He didn't.

I don't think there are any tremendous D in this draft. There are guys I certainly like, but not one of them should be considered inside the top 15 imho.

I’m not sure I agree. He was 17 year old at a 19 year old tournament. Despite this, he was an Alternate captain and led his blueline in scoring with 2pts. His team was 0-4 and was a -33 in tournament play and 0-2 in relegation play. The only reason they were in the tournament was relegation being suspended during covid.

Here’s what Wheeler said…

17. David Reinbacher — RHD, EHC Kloten, 6-foot-2

We sometimes see draft-eligible D play their full draft year in a professional league. We seldom see them play big minutes in a good league, though — even when they’re on the older side, like Reinbacher is with his October birthday. But that’s what the Austrian has done in Switzerland’s top flight this season, where he plays over 20 minutes in a game more often than he plays under it. He has even driven results at both ends in those minutes, with a positive goal differential on an under-.500 team that has been outscored pretty significantly on the whole this season.

Reinbacher’s got pro size, desired handedness, and a really strong foundation of tools that all but guarantee he’ll become an NHLer. I expect he’ll be the first defenceman picked when all is said and done, and he may be my top-ranked one too even though Gulyayev excites me a little more and remains there for now…

…He’s strong. His head is always up and on a swivel and he does a good job pre-surveying the ice when he’s going back to get pucks through frequent shoulder checks. He’s got some poise and processing under pressure, even if his play with the puck on his stick isn’t dynamic per se. He’s just a rock-solid, projectable two-way defenceman…

This is all you need to know. He's a rock-solid 2-way Dman. You don't take Dmen without any dynamic skills inside the top 15, otherwise, you end up with another Juolevi.

Outside the top 15, no problem, but inside the top 15 no chance.
