I've got Benson like 7 or 8 ish, but if we took him 6, I don't think I'd be upset. Lot to like about his game.

Speculation is Michkov only wants to sign with certain franchises.

He is going to Washington or Detroit IMO. Teams with excellent history with Russian players.

That's great news if true. We don't need to waste this pick if he only wants to sign in specific markets.
Then again, if Washington is one of those markets, they'll wait for him to fall without having to pay to move up.

Or alternatively he meets with teams ahead of us and tells them he would be really excited to play there. Pushing Leonard or Smith to us. I could see him being excited to play in the Bay Area. Hard to say about Montreal.

Everyone here can cross Michkov right off their lists. Forget about him. There’s a 0% chance we draft this kid.

However, getting to know the prospect has been a tough task, and taking that, rumored "character issues" and a lengthy KHL contract that doesn't expire until 2026 into account, some believe his draft stock could fall. And for some, there's speculation brewing that's what Michkov may want, per Sportsnet's Elliotte Friedman.

Friedman said on 32 Thoughts that numerous teams have been trying to get in contact with Michkov to get to know him before making their draft day decisions. However, meeting with the Russian has been nearly impossible.

"Teams want to get to know who they’re dealing with here. What I'm hearing is that in Russia, the teams that could get there to meet him, it wasn’t easy to get to talk to him. You would try to talk to him, set up appointments; he just wasn’t interested," Friedman said. "Like someone said to me the only way you could really get to talk to him was if you physically got to him right after a game and talked to him for a couple of minutes."

Zero chance he's drafted by us. BA wouldn't take him with our 2nd rounder.

Dvorsky, Reinbacher, Pellika, Bensen. Depends what you are looking for. 2 way C - Dvorsky. Defensive minute munching D - Reinvacher. Offensive puck moving D - Pellika. Top line winger with good compete - Bensen. The sky is not falling.

I’ve got Benson ahead of Smith, Leonard, and Michkov. So I’d want Benson. I don’t think the Yotes are going to draft a 170lb LW in the top 10 though. So I expect they’ll draft Reinbacher or possibly trade back.

Hopefully Montreal takes Michkov or they trade back with some team on his list like Washington.

If MTL takes Leonard and Michkov is sitting on the board for us, I wonder if we could generate a bidding war between Washington and Detroit for him. I’d love to get 9th and 17th for 6th and the latest of our 4 ‘24 2nds. Maybe that’s too greedy. Might have to add Edmonton’s 3rd this year 88th.

I would prob pull the trigger to keep him from the flyers. I also have a feeling Michko might be forcing his way to Washington hearing he wont even talk to alot of teams.

Remembering that Tarasenko was supposed to stay in Russian, so he dropped to 16th in '10 and rookie season was in '12. Plus you add in that this 18yo's paw just past away mysteriosly and that the Russians don't want Americans to steal their players from the KHL and that we're arming Ukraine to kill Russians. It sounds more like a psyops operation confusing the kid than anything typical.

I'm not advocating for him, because I don't think Russians like the desert environment just saying he probably is overwhelmed by all this confusion while still mourning the death of his father.
