The more I read, the more there are concerns he might drop to the mid 1st, so if Yzerman doesn't trade 17 for a current NHLer we could maybe land him there.

I've never even considered him a center and im one of his cheerleaders here. We need offence, and we can get a center at 17.
 
Benson is one of the top offensively gifted and creative players in the draft hands down..

If we want actual skill, Benson then Yager would go a long way to addressing that

Hey, if they find a way to get both Benson and Yager I'm all for it. That would be a downright sick second line to watch gel together and do some damage.

But I don't know that either slides to 17, so it'll take some creativity (not to mention what assets would be needed to land Debrincat).

Yeah, I jumped from the Dvorsky to the Benson train. I'll be upset if some jagoff nabs him before 9OA. Like you, I'm cool if we go with a C at 17 or the 2nd round, but I don't think any centers available at 9 will Trump Benson.

Plus Marco MF Kasper is our answer for center depth.

It took a few tries, but I was able to draft Benson at 9 and Yager at 17.

I'd use Bostons 2024 1st plus a 2nd to nab Debrincat

I'm leaning heavily towards benson now too.

But someone did make a comment that he will be 2 years out before he can go to the AHL? If that is true, I would have to think that is some kind of a factor against him right? At 9, I feel like we should be getting a player that could possibly make the AHL roster this year or stay in european league for one year and go to ahl for callups or make the team. IDK spit-ballin here.

One guy I think they might do that with is Ethan Gauthier. Everything aobut him is exactly what the wings preach about wanting. Hes this drafts Ridley Greig. It wouldnt be a huge reach but 17 would be alittle early from most rankings.

One scout on Mckenzies list had him as high as 18 I think though

Well yeah. It’s just random even for him.
He personally doesn’t rank Wood in his top 10 (His own opinion)

And I’m not really seeing public steam from any of the actual dialed in talking heads about Wood moving into top 10.

Unless he has info/hunch on that specific pick. Kind of seems like he is throwing darts in his basement.

If Benson takes until his D+4 season to make the Wings roster, I will agree with you that we f***ed up. If he’s as good as people think he is, myself included, he should arrive before that.

And I’m drafting him knowing that he’s on the wing. I don’t want him at center. He’s a top 6 forward, I have my future two top 6 centers in Larkin and Kasper. I need to support them with smart and skilled players to generate offense and compete their ass off. That’s Benson

My gut has been thinking we will take Barlow at 9 and Willander at 17 for awhile.

I think they both fit the mold of what Detroit likes and I could see Yzerman thinking he has got his Bertuzzi and Hronek replacements.

I could see Detroit liking him too, I started the year liking him a lot.

I also could see Detroit being really high on Easton Cowan from London.

Stop that! You’re just trying to hurt me now! I’m committed to Benson and Heidt. If Willander lands in there somewhere, cool. I don’t wanna ‘nother Bert or Hronek, I want a Benson and a Heidt! I want my Marner and Scott Gomez! Or

I could see us drafting Benson, I’ll be really surprised if we draft Heidt
