WC: 2023 Czech Team

15 shots against US, 17 against Canada NO we seriously can't win with production like that

Before even if we lose we at least Always was at par with shots And chances, just Always suffered from bad finishing.

But this style Kari ordered US makes US look like hockey nations of second category, thats the worst part.

Team was not good, but you can at least lose with some dignity. People are already defending Jalonen, but we played same shit last year with stacked team. We were just lucky to face Germany in QF and playing USA with 3 healthy defenders in bronze medal game.

Oh man, I have never wanted NT coach gone so bad.

On the goalies:

Shots were 34-15...

First thing, dont' blame our good players. Kubalik and Cervenka had our best looks but had nothing to work with. Vejmelka is over .920 for his games and got zero support. He was .911 in this game. Never blame a goalie when the team doesn't score. First goal went off 2 guys (Jordan and Dvorak) who aren't good enough for this level in 2023. Jordan is a great vet and Dvorak is an EHT guy. So is Nemecek. So is Kostalek. So is Kundratek.

Vejmelka was miles ahead of Hrubec and Langhammer

And he played against Canada and the US where we were heavily dominated, outshot and scored 1 goal in 2 games.

I can't believe this has to be stated but:

there is no such thing as a 3 goalie rotation past peewee in tournaments. Name another nation doing this at U20, Skodas, Olympics, NHL, AHL, Extraliga, KHL, SHL, Liiga or World's that has won a medal or title? You can't!

Orct needs to be shot into the sun!

How to do it next time:

1. declare your 1 in the lockeroom .. let them know they are the starter (not this, we don't have a 1 bullshit)
2. play him before him game 4 of the tourney
3. make sure the 2 know who he is too! Hey Marek/Simon.. you are the backup and you will play against Norway and Slovenia unless things go to shit.
4. Make your third goalie and young guy with upside.. Patera, Suchanek, Stezka... bring them, expose them to the tourney and let them know they aren't playing unless shit hits the fan.

That's it. No one benches their NHLer in elimination games but us (not this year but previous ones for a decade now.. started with Hadamczak and Stepanek. Than Salak, Kovar, Bartosak.. it never worked save for putting them in bronze medal games and saying they brought us bronze when they were clearly the backup).

Why would an NHL goalie want to come at all? We have shit D and are actively pissing off our NHL goalies. I'd love to be wrong on this but I haven't seen it.

Its not about losing today's game, its about the inability of the Czech team to pull off at least one solid performance over 60min throught the entire WC. Granted, this year's lineup was pretty modest, but nevertheless, this chaotic and passive ****show is due to coaching.
 
Part 2:

Extraliga guys.. who was noticeable and effective out of the 12?

Kempny and ?????

Flek was pretty good as a bottom 6er. The D was awful but they did get some points.

I think I highlighted them all... 8 games, 12 guys and 9 goals total

Take our Sedlak (returning from NHL mid season) and it's 6 goals for 12 guys in 8 gmaes. Kubalik had 8.

I get some of you are Extraliga fans and this pisses you off but there is no medal in the Extraliga. At best we can find some role players and maybe a good returning NHL player like Kempny or Sedlak who both started in the NHL and returned home. It's REAL thin after that. Most the guys are older, no upside and were never even drafted. They'd be bottom 6 and bottom pair AHL guys.

The key to success is to avoid the Extraliga unfortunately:

1. NHL
2. AHL
3. SHL
4. NLA
5. Liiga
6. Extraliga for 2 or 3 guys like a Kempny, Sedlak or Sobotka in bottom 6. All former NHL players returning. That's it.

There will be almost zero players from the extraliga in the semi finals at this tournament. If Latvia loses there may actually be zero. Most Extraliga guys were on our team, Slovakia and Latvia to my knowledge.

Meanwhile, CHL, NCAA and AHL guys will be well represented! Swedes are playing Walstedt at times, maybe even today. A lot of AHL guys just handed us our asses.

Stop thinking the AHL is a minor league and extraliga is a pro one. It's a caveman mentality.

Part 3 - roster selection and management selection

Havlat did f*** all. HIs assistant GM, Zidlicky is invisible. They were hired on the same day and I haven't heard a word about Zidlicky. Havlat got exposed for being full of shit by Lauko. I will bet a million CZK that Havlat didn't see one AHL rink. He went for dinners with Pasta and the boys and went to the beach with Radko. I'm not even trying to be funny. I'd love to see what these intensive scouting trips look like.

And while I'm at.. what the f*** qualifies Havlat as a GM of a National Team? Because he was an awesome player (one of my favs all time btw)?

Why is Orct still the goalie guy?

What has Erat won or coached to get him on the bench? Again, great player! Being a good player and being a GM or coach are two different things. It'd like asking an excellent police officer to put our a fire.

Kari is an excellent coach and the move was fine but either he is fed up with politics and has his hands tied by our corrupt federation or his style doesn't fit Czech guys. We know there is corruption. We have videos of Rucizka taking bribes. We have Zacha and his poppa talking shit about us. We have Lauko talking shit about us. We've had Havlat and Hejda and it goes on and on. I wouldn't be surprised if there wasn't some mandate that says we must have Extraliga guys on the roster. A team with 50% extraliga guys will never win this in 2023. And the league is actually stronger this year because of the returning players from KHL.

If we had lost today and I saw some nice hockey or could say 'he'll be back in Prague' or 'this is good for development' then fine! But we didn't develop anyone. We didn't make our team stronger. We had a bunch of guys we may never see again.. Dvorak, Nemecek, Jordan, Hrubec, Sobotka, Beranek, Kostalek, Kundratek, Vozelnik and Lenc come to mind. All older players with no future upside. They are what they are. Good EHT guys and good extraligers.

Part 4 - injuries were not Kari's fault. I'm positive Chytil would've helped. I'm positive Jiricek would've helped. I saw Sedlak did help.. he was awesome! Smejkal disapointed but I think it was injury related. Zboril didn't do enough but he was paired with Jordan. Maybe that isn't fair but talk about an anchor.

However, I'm also positive that guys like Galvas, Kral, Vrana and Svozil would've given us a much different look. Half the guys on the US roster that is undefeated and smoked us wouldn't have even gotten a sniff from Kari and his crew. Think about that. Sobotka as your 1C is a recipe for disaster.. he played with Cervus and Kubalik who combined for 11 goals and he got 2 assists in 8 games.

Part 5 - The EHT should NEVER be used as a way to assess the NT hopefuls. Beating a Swedish team in November full of guys not going to the World's is no a good indicator.

I wouldn't even invite our established Euro vets... just bring the youngs guy and let them get smoked and improve. Learn the system. Lenc led an EHT one year in points for us. It means nothing once the Swedes and Finns are sending their full rosters. It means nothing when the NA teams shows up with super fast, hard forechecking teams that some of our Euro guys are not familiar with. They can't keep up.. it's obvious in our last 3 games where we had a lot of North American based players.

Do not feed the embarrassing, I repeat embarrassing Swedish troll.
 
It is nothing more than giving a chance to someone who is not afraid to give younger players a chance, mainly based on performance.
And not that the coach has a favorite, completely average player, and I will blindly trust that and nominate him again for the championship.
We had a lot of other options, but this conservative, always defensive-minded coach has other priorities. Looking at the game shown, I have to consider it a bad joke. Drag Kari and don't come back..

Part 6 - time to look at Kari's record at the World's (and we had damn near our A team last year)

Historic losses to Austria and Latvia
Lost to US and Canada here (the only Big 4 we met)
Lost to a very good Swiss team

Did get a Bronze with a very stacked roster. Was it him? Are we sure? He was gifted (or Nedved was actually good at his job) a great roster. Our Top D, our TOP 2C's, quality goalie (whom he f***ed with this year) and our absolute best player.

Beat Germany 4-1 in quarters, lost to Canada 6-1 in Semi's and won bronze 8-4 against US

Big 4 - lost to Sweden, Finland and Canada. Beat the US twice!

Big 4 - loss to US and Canada

So his record agains the big 4 is 2 wins against US and 5 losses.

Also, the Swiss, Austrians and Latvians have beaten us.

3rd and 4th in the groups.

Guys I liked this tourney... Cervus, Kubalik, Vejmelka, Sedlak, Flek and Kempny was fine.
Guys I was disapointed in ... Smejkal, Zboril, Kaut and Spacek (he had a great chance to step up here)
Guys I'm fining not seeing again ... Sobotka, Nemecek, Dvorak, Hrubec, Jordan, Kostalek, Kundratek, Vozelnik, Lenc, Tomasek

They need to change the direction and learn from the US loss. We have players like that. They had around 10 guys younger than Kaut.

I'm not sure why, after the Olympic debacle, we were back to Hrubec, Kempny, Sobotka and Jerabek.lol
 
BTW.. 2nd on the EHT... how'd that work out? Meaningless tourney.

If Ondrej Pavel was American, he may have made the US team and beat us today.

The one commentator made the comment about how Czech fans aren't familiar with the US players because they aren't NHLer's. That is true.

The problem is that our Czech NT Staff is also not familiar with our North American players. They need an american based scout to watch the AHL and such. To look at the tweener guys between AHL and NHL.

To the Czech team it goes

We are missing a huge chunk of our young and talented guys that can skate and have upside. They'd all show up. I cannot imagine one AHL player saying 'f*** it, having kids and going on vacation'. Lauko went on social media and ASKED to join. We took Lenc who was a healthy scratch. You can't make this shit up.

Like I say, and I'm not joing, Tichachek is more likely to make next year's team than Svozil and Spacek becuase he stayed (not drafted) and they left to a league that doesn't exist to Czech management.

We need NERDS... not former hockey players!

We are identical to the Oiiler's in their decade of darkness:

Bunch of HOFers walking around f***ing it all up.. Coffey, Gretzky and Lowe walking around showing their rings. They accomplished NOTHING for the Oil. In fact, former OIlers that were hired to be Oiler coaches, GM's and executive positions never got a job anywhere else in the NHL after finally being fired. It was called the Old Boys Club or the 'boys on the bus'. It did NOT work. It was awful. Decisions made by gut feelings from former cup champions.

We had a saying for that decade.. fire them all to be safe.

Rulik is available, so is Varada but if the mandate is to use at least 10 extraliga guys then you may as well have Goodman and I coach the team.. it won't matter. We need hockey brains and hockey people that are aware of where all our players are and what they can and cannot do.

The reason we didn't have anyone younger than Kaut is because those are very good players in the AHL.

Stezka and Smejkal will head to the AHL and be forgotten next year. Meanwhile, we'll be talking about Frk and Galvas as potential stars for us. It's amazing the Czech guys haven't figured this out.lol
