WJC: 2023 Czech Team

With numerous cancelled flights, David Jiricek has finally arrived in Halifax.

…the problem is his gear got lost in Torontos Pearson International Airport.

They play tomorrow against Canada and he’s got absolutely no gear or sticks. His skates are probably custom molded too. He’s going to be playing with all new hockey equipment.

…great job Air Canada. A first class athlete has travelled without any of his luggage. Absolutely embarassing, I really really hope they can find it and sort arrangement for it to arrive in Halifax.
Is that you, Allan Walsh?

From what I understood, there is another problem: David Jiříček is seriously exhausted after the complicated journey from Cleveland to Toronto and then Toronto - Halifax. They will see after the morning skate if he is fit for the game. Obviously it would be better to give him some rest than let him play if he's not 100 % ready. The latter option would only increase the risk of an injury. So they are waiting for how he's feeling during the day and then they will decide.

Yeah, apparently he had only 4 hours sleep. If he doesn't have his kit and hasn't slept much it's probably best if he sits this one out.

Air Canada is shit, but nobody will cry for a millionnaire to be living what everybody has been living through traveling by air with the recent snowstorm.

He'll have to go out buy some gear in Halifax, I'm sure he can find some money in his recent signing bonus.

Poor guy can't have his custom skates, gimme a break. He'll be fine.

Walsh calling out the CEO of a multibillion company on behalf of his client is embarassing.

Yeah that’s true, yikes.

He can surely buy a gear in Halifax, that's not the problem. The problem is that if he plays a top hockey game with new, non-customized skates and gear, there is quite a risk he may get injured. There is a big difference between playing a hobby game or kids' hockey and playing elite game. The intensity is completely different, especially ankles can really suffer in new bought skates.

Total joke.
Me and my family flew out west for Christmas this year, and West Jet also lost all our luggage.. it’s been 3 days and nothing. So many other people on the flight too.
It seems to happening everywhere right now I’m hearing.
I really hope they can track it down and get it to him. How you lose a hockey bag and sticks is beyond me.

In Czech so apologies... Just wanted to show how exhausted he looked after finally getting there without his equipment.

Not adding alscher now makes sense... They are a similar size so maybe jiricek can play Canada in Marek alschers gear and get a stick from sportchek on a buy one get one at 50 percent off deal like all my beer league buddies do.lmao

Also in Czech but I can translate the fun part . Czechs have a 1-2-20 record in the last 30 years against canada.lol.

30 years is how long ago we separated from Slovakia. Yet I bet I hear us called Czechoslovakia and Chechnya tonight during the broadcast.lol

Some intriguing names here... I'm still a huge Petr fan and think he becomes a very good late round pick after all the injuries he will rise dammit!

Koci, badinka and jiricek on D... Love it.

Yeah, it's not like it's small luggage lol. Sorry to hear about your luggage, hope it turns up soon!

Looks like they found the Halifax Sportchek.. he did the morning skate. No confirmation if he plays.

They must evaluate this carefully. If he feels comfortable and fit to play, there is no reason for him no to play. But if he's still feeling tired or extremely uncomfortable with the new gear, it would be better to give him some extra rest than to risk an injury in the first game.

I agree! This game is a scheduled loss. Last time we played in Canada in first game his tournament was over after a period. I still have nightmares of Lauko and Jenik out after a few periods too.

This is the best game to miss for him by far. He has no luck at this tournament! NONE. It is astounding.

LOL... I mentioned the U18 matchup earlier today... the feed was AWFUL.. no volume, grainy and crap. They didn't even have the scoreboard in the frame properly.

I saw it was 2-1 and assumed we lost to Germany as there were 10 seconds left... well, I missed out

This edit is wild

I'd say the outrage is a bit too much. My niece should be in Florida and is stuck in Montreal for similar reasons. Some of the Spengler players didn't get their gear either. It happens. I will say though that I was complaining they didn't send him earlier. Eg. Kulich is also in the AHL and he was there several days earlier. Those 2 extra AHL games are not looking worth it to me.

Note 'Cesko' on the jerseys... probably our best 3 players which isn't usually how C and A's are handed out. I'm fine with it.
