I might argue the best single action a caps player that wore #39 is Steckel giving Crosby a concussion.

Been reading alot of mock drafts now that the playoffs are over. I think we need to take a Center. Michkov is gone.

I would be tempted to trade up to 6 if he drops there

Friedman says Michkov might be intentionally avoiding interviews to tank his stock to go to Washington.
I don't think Friedman directly pieced together that it's Washington he wants to go to. Just that he may be trying to pick his team by not talking to some and even that remains to be seen in the run-up. It may include Washington for all we know given recent comments by Nikolishin. Either there's wink-wink coordination going on between the two or Washington may also opt elsewhere. Is there that much to be gained by such a campaign? As much as it may be a relatively easier transition for Michkov in DC it is a tough act to follow #8. There's a mentorship angle perhaps but they're different players. Almost totally different styles aside from liking to score goals resourcefully. Who knows at this point. McKenzie's final list will be out Thursday but Michkov's draft week meetings could tip the scales. Certainly the big wild card at the top.

Dvorsky still seems like the main alternative and their type of player. Either Dvorsky or Moore make sense because if they're any good they'll struggle to draft a higher-end C the next couple years. Both may be short of 1C level but could be above average 2Cs. BPA all the way, of course, and ultimately the ETA shouldn't be a huge factor in an extra year or two with someone else. It still should be about peak potential a good four or five years from now. I do wonder a bit about the checking strength of a Michkov or Benson. As said previously either would be the shortest first rounder in franchise history. But whether it's Marchessault, Kucherov, Marchand, etc. I don't put a ton of stock in that if the player has the goods in IQ and skill. The dogged find ways to accentuate their strengths and I do wonder if GMs aren't overthinking it with both starting at 5 perhaps in opting for bigger players as a matter of course.

Not that it matters per say but I do believe I saw a Russian interview where he said his favorite NHL team is WSH.

If he can somehow force his way into DC that would be epic. If he makes it known what team would dare draft him? Nobody ahead of us can afford to miss on their top 10 except maybe Arizona.

It's still to be determined if, he's executing some master plan to go where he wants to play, which is still kinda juvenile, or if he's really just "I don't wanna" regarding these interviews, which is extraordinarily juvenile.

I sounds cool to discuss him dropping to us, but I'm hearing red flags galore and regardless of who takes him, I could see bust all over him, talent not withstanding

Or he becomes your franchise cornerstone for a decade plus and 6-7 teams above us are salty for that decade plus he grew up a caps fan and wanted to play with his idol at all costs. Certainly wouldn't be the first time in sports history a player dictated where he played and had great success. Seems pretty normal now actually.

The trade forum for moving up to #5 is insane. Habs fans think Michkov already is in the HOF.

Next years 1st rounder is not for trade. Unless its for Bedard.

Judging by the comments from Nikolishin I am not even convinced they would want the player.
Not going to go the conspiracy theory route here and suggest he's throwing shade to tank value but I'm also not 100% sure he's speaking for the organization. How much weight does Niko carry? What's his official role? It's his first year in the capitals organization. Not sure he's thes voice of the franchise.

Definitely not but I imagine one of the only organizational amateur scouts in Russia who has actually met Michkov has some sway on the situation.
