Zegras is the guy who stands out as  maybe having a chance at being available.

So something like Byram + 2024 1st for Zegras I think is kind of in the realm of the trade we just saw only on a more established standpoint.

But beyond that it's hard to really know what other names are actually available. Like we just saw, I don't think anybody had any idea Drysdale was available. Every insider is quick to come out and say Gauthier has been available because he wouldn't play for Philly, but how come nobody mentioned this availability in rumors before today?

It just goes to show IMO that when you make really good young players available, it tends to shake loose names you wouldn't expect.

Who's to say if the Avs made Byram available that a name like Kent Johnson doesn't shake loose for example.
Wouldn't surprise me at all if Zegras becomes available. Either at the teams discretion or him requesting a trade. They have a potentially very good core emerging of players slightly younger than him and it seems they are targeting big, heavy forwards and building a gritty team identity.

The relationship with Zegras just seems off to me. The ducks have been publicly critical of his effort/defense multiple times, and the contract negotiations were pretty protracted. Also there is no way Zegras is happy with that deal based on what similar players have received lately.

If Zegras did shake loose I’d be curious if the Avs would try to get him, as well as how he’d fit on this team. He’s obviously extremely talented, wonder if being on a more established team with clear superstars ahead of him would be that extra motivator for the kid. Would be fun to have one of the best stick handlers in the league working their magic

Agreed, it's not without risks but like you mentioned he's incredibly skilled and IMO has a lot of untapped potential, especially if he was to play with our top guys. I was a huge fan of his in his draft year.

Couldn't agreee more that an experienced locker room would do him wonders. Also in general, a fresh start might be in his best interest. It seems like for whatever reason Zegras is a lightning rod for criticism, especially from the older generation. Moving on to a new team and laying low a bit social-media wise might help him mature a bit and discover his best game.

There are ONLY two players I want if we trade Byram. Zegras or Askarov.

I’m starting to question whether or not Colton was actually an upgrade over JTC.

He most definitely is not. Not even close. And I like Colton.

That´s true. But we all know that JTC wasn´t the answer to our 2 C either and would have cost us 5+ mill. And you dont pay over 5 mill for a player like JTC.

So Colton is fine and perfect for his role. Unfortunately he has to play a line higher than he should be because our GM thought grabbing RyJo for free as solution to our 2C was a good idea.

So we all have to pray that CMac gets his ass going and solves our 2C-problem asap. You cant play your top guys nearly 30 minutes a game.

It's weird that you guys keep mentioning Zegras over and over yet he's not playing CENTER for Anaheim. In 19 games played, he's taken 92 faceoffs and in the games I've seen recently - it's been McTavish, Carlsson,Henrique and Carrick at center.

You'd think if he was even a decent possibility in the middle, they'd play him there and develop him there over an older guy like Henrique. It's not as if they are going to make the playoffs... they have 13 wins and 25 losses.

This fantasy that he'd come here and be a solution for US as a #2C needs to stop. Bednar would shift him over to wing like Jost and Newhook and we'd still be looking for a #2C solution.

He’s played center a lot and is a natural center.

I like that trade for Philly assuming Drysdale's injuries don't affect him long term. Drysdale is high IQ and one of the better young RHD. I like Drysdale a good amount more than Byram he just plays way smarter. Also not a good look for Gauthier at all imo and why would you want to build around a guy that entitled. Winger for D is also not a good trade and then you add the 2nd round pick on top.

Two Rivers
Seems like a win/win trade to me. Both teams made out quite well from a bad situation. Drysdale is awesome, he just needs to stay healthy.

Anaheim's center depth could be down right nasty in the not so distant future, Avs 2013 levels of nasty. I wish cMac valued centers the way Verbeek does.

We'd be freaking out too if our 5th overall pick didn't want to sign.
They aren't mad at him though, they are mad at the org for not firing the coach so the kid would sign.

I'm not sure how Briere is supposed to fire Torts on a team that is doing 5X better than expected.

Avs should find a way to get Fleury and give him one final run for a cup (Assuming we jettison RyJo)
