Gauther is really close with Kevin Hayes, so I'm sure he just didn't wake up one day and didn't want to play in Philly. Or maybe he did.

So byram and drysdale from my seat are fairly comparable players. I’m no expert and defer to those with more onsite.

D men vs wing value
Does Gauther have iq issues.
Do we as Avs fans over value byram… especially when we are talking of trading him

Personally, I feel Byram has a bit more value. I don't think it is dramatic or anything, but a bit more. Byram has shown a bit more ceiling in the NHL and is a bit bigger. Drysdale has shown more 'calm' offense and is a right shot. Both are top 10, former high end defensemen prospects who have had injury issues and have clocks ticking on their projection. Meaning they got to start showing more to think their ceiling is realistic. Both are guys who teams have to project into a top pairing role and are not established in that level of play.

I will say Drysdale has looked phenomenal since Christmas. If he plays like that for the Flyers, they'll love this deal. I really like Gauthier too, but I think he's more of a 35-45 sort of wing and doesn't translate at center. Carlsson and Gauthier will be a load to handle as a top line. I think this will be a win-win overall and I appreciate that both GMs are willing to make this type of move.

Briere talks about trading a left winger for a RD, which is a premium position.

It's interesting that Gauthier told them at the draft that he was built to be a Flyer but then told them after that he didn't want to play for the Flyers.

Is it because of Torts?

@JWK has it. So kinda... but imagine going from Torts to Cronin. That's like just choosing which hammer to hit your nuts with.

I know you've probably mentioned who, but what's you comparable trade to this?

Zegras is the guy who stands out as  maybe having a chance at being available.

So something like Byram + 2024 1st for Zegras I think is kind of in the realm of the trade we just saw only on a more established standpoint.

But beyond that it's hard to really know what other names are actually available. Like we just saw, I don't think anybody had any idea Drysdale was available. Every insider is quick to come out and say Gauthier has been available because he wouldn't play for Philly, but how come nobody mentioned this availability in rumors before today?

It just goes to show IMO that when you make really good young players available, it tends to shake loose names you wouldn't expect.

Who's to say if the Avs made Byram available that a name like Kent Johnson doesn't shake loose for example.

The reaction from literally everyone involved with the Flyers and media shows the kid made the correct call. Get away from that toxicity.

I have a good friend in the sports media there (not hockey) and it is a beyond brutal market.

I've always liked Torts though, even with his weird views of McDavid
I wasn’t a huge fan of him years ago… but he’s grown on me and frankly his coaching is absurdly good.

Not saying it's right, but my guess is this management group just doesn't want the narrative to be all about their incompetence so they're just getting a jump on it.

Something tells me it's better to get your nuts hammered in warmer weather. Probably easier to find someone you'd like to help you heal them in SoCal as well.

In the interviews I saw with Gauther at the world juniors he came across as somewhere between confident and arrogant.

MacKinnon, Rantanen and Makar all over 30 minutes. Bednar just killing his top guys.
That's why we need a 2C ASAP. We don't need one for wins. We need one for this.

Same reason we need a backup goalie too. Georgiev plays way too much.
