I agree but the fact that we can even ask that question is extremely positive and I think it can potentially be better than expected as both Chabot and Chychrun have the skill set to do more, and Sanderson could easily have his breakout year next season
Absolutely true and I expect Chabot and Zub to better. Once we get Klevin in with Hamonic/JBD I think we have a D that can win in the playoffs.

A big, physical defenseman that can punish the opposing team in our zone will make a huge difference. Imagine the Panthers without Gudas last season
I think it has more to do with how our team plays defensively has a whole. Top guys need to lead the way with proper structure.

Toronto has a weak defense on paper but their top dogs all are respectable on both sides of the puck

You think the difference between a d that can win or not is one of our 5/6 dmen?
I think addressing the lack of size on the backend is critical to winning in the playoffs. A bottom pairing D who is physical and can kill penalties provides high value in a playoff series.

16 out of our first 21 regular season games are at home.
I am looking forward to a good start with 16 out of 21 games at home.
Hoping for a healthy team and solid goaltending this year. Go Sens!

A big test will be the western road trips, the Sens have been getting bitch-slapped out there.

I realized that 5 of the 6 in our top 6 have a 34+ goal season within the last 2 years:

Stutzle: 39 goals (2022-23)
Tkachuk: 35 goals (2022-23)
Giroux: 35 goals (2022-23)
Norris: 35 goals (2021-22)
Tarasenko: 34 goals (2021-22)

We didn't have a single 30 goal season from 2012 to 2021. Now we have five players with one in the last 2 seasons.

I know league scoring is higher, but this is still impressive.

Plus we have two players on our 3rd line with 20 goals last season.

Well, technically not yet, but hopefully soon.

So now we just need to learn how to defend! And stop pucks. And stop with back breaking giveaways that find the twine.

Here’s some positivity for ya’ll - I met somebody, after twelve years, and she’s the realist real. She’s coming over next weekend and I can’t wait. I’ve never been more excited for anything.

I also bought an Adidas Tyler Kleven jersey.

This year I won the game of life - and the Sens are winning the Stanley Cup.
Awesome man!

Wear it on your date too! Lets her know that you appreciate hard work, bootstraps, lunch pails, and collars or various colours, but also have disposable income to drop on custom jerseys of players who haven’t made the show yet.

Then sit back and watch the magic do its thing :)

Also be yourself which could help… hehe ;)

Bumping this because in spite of the roster drama, these guys are looking good and confident. I know it's preseason but there's more attention to detail, goaltending is very good, the D looks solid, and will be deep up front once we get the Norris/Pinto stuff resolved. Timmy is going to another level as well.

This is a playoff team, I don't care about what happened before or who else is good in the East. I don't look at the schedule and hope for the best and expect the worst against a top team, I have a strong feeling they will beat the teams they should, and can beat anyone if they play like they can.

This is a team that will make the playoffs and have their first round opponent very concerned. And everyone talks about the bloodbath in the East, well that affects all the teams in the East. The old guard will have no nights off either and I can see about 3 teams who were in the playoffs last year being out this year. Will be a great season to watch all around

I think it's a bit generous to say the hockey news says that, Alex Adams, the Sens beat writer for the Hockey News says that though.
I know debating is a personal hobby of yours (not been to be an insult, I like debating) but the first line in the article says

"The Senators forward group cracked THN's top five and it looks like Ottawa is just getting started"

And who exactly built this team to be one of the best offensive top 9 in the league? Credit where credit is due.
Whomever he is, Andlater should have shown him the door on day one!

Well when you remove the obvious luck involved from the SJ trade and simply picking what were consensus picks, signing a guy that wanted to come home anyway and another guy with nowhere else to play....I think we're down to just Batherson....but he was probably Mann's guy anyway

I think the Athletic had Ottawa ranked 7th in the "top 2 centers" category. You add the good wingers all the way throughout the top 2 lines, it's very attractive on paper. Top 5? Very optimistic. But when you break down every team, the cap has crippled a lot of depth throughout the league.

FYI the list was
1. Toronto
2. Edmonton
3. New Jersey
4. Pittsburgh
5. Ottawa

Pittsburgh doesn't feel right with Rust and Reilly Smith in there with Guentzel being hurt to start the year, but...Crosby/Malkin.

Really though, you start looking at every team you'll see big drop offs when you get to the 5th/6th options for the top 6. Great teams like Tampa, Colorado, Boston have taken big hits recently, Carolina is deep but lacking real dominance in singular players...it's not out of the question to put Ottawa top 5 on paper. And Stutzle is getting recognized by everyone else more and more as a superstar that might be even better this year
