Mine too!

I remember checking updates in the delivery room on my blackberry.

Heatly scored in the last minute to tie a game against Jersey. I cheered and got dirty looks from the Dr and nursing staff. My wife was cool with it.

My wife lucked out with a private room, and it had a TV. I am still shamed til this day for watching a little too much CBC hockey rather than baby birthing.... WTH! that's what the midwives were for! ;)

My daughter was born in 99. Very long delivery. The delivery nurse was Jason York's older sister. My wife is still pissed that I spent hours chatting up the nurse about hockey 😁

Same tier as Washington, Detroit Boston, and NYI. Seems fair.

Who would you bump to move us up a tier, Tbay, Fla, Pens or Buffalo?

For me, I see Buffalo and Ottawa pretty even, the Pens, Tbay and Fla as very volatile (could be great or pretty bad)
Don't need to bump anyone down for us to go up. I consider us basically equal to Buffalo. They had a few more points than us last season, but didn't have the injuries we had, nor did they improve as much as we did this offseason.

But whatever, I really don't care if people are underselling us this season.

I was really annoyed last season when everyone (outside of Sens fans) were hyping us up like crazy, while we were a bit more skeptical. This season seems to be the opposite of that.

Well, if you want to consider us as in the top 16, someone currently there needs to become #17,

I guess I worded it wrong as you could expand the top 4 tiers to include 17 instead of 16, but their tiers are based on likelihood of making the playoffs it seems, so doing so would result in too many teams in the likely to make the playoffs category.

I'd bump Florida down. They made the playoffs by the skin of their teeth last year, and they didn't improve in the offseason. They even arguably got worse because of lingering injuries.

I mean, they did go all the way to the SCF,

I don't think there is a clear choice myself. I lean towards Buffalo, but I really didn't like tbay for the final half of the season or the playoffs.

I'd have said the pens before they acquired EK,

Florida fans would complain.
These are opinions that are possibly no better and no worse than your own

Thats not the team id be bumping. They are very very good.

They also won the presidents trophy the year before. Florida is one of the best teams in the league. They do have alot of injuries though, if they survive those and make the playoffs I dont think anyone wants to play them.

The assesment seems fair until they prove otherwise. If I had to pick a team it would be Buffalo but I see them the same as Ottawa. The sens actually have to do it. They havent for a long time so it makes sense to have them at the current tier.

At the same time, they'll have Spencer Knight back so a duo of Bobrovsky/Knight could be the best in the East. Then you can expect guys like Lundell and Luostarinen to take yet another step forward. Injuries are what might set them back early on.

The Atlantic will be a bloodbath. The non-biased observer would rank the teams:

1. Toronto
2. Tampa Bay
3. Florida
4. Boston
5. Buffalo
6. Ottawa
7. Detroit

In the East, it'd be:

1. Carolina
2. New Jersey
3. Toronto
4. Tampa Bay
5. NYR
6. Florida
7. Boston
8. Pittsburgh
9. NYI
10. Buffalo
11. Ottawa
12. Detroit
13. Washington

All of those teams, IMO, have a shot at the playoffs. But Ottawa is definitely towards the bottom of both lists. It'll be up to the players to prove people wrong.

Yeah, it's truly time to put up or shut up.

I don't like the Islanders roster personally. It might just be me, but they seem in tough to get back into the playoffs.
100%. No pressure boys.

Agreed. I don't like it long term as they're getting old, but I still see them hanging around for a couple seasons yet. Highly doubt they ever do damage as a group in the playoffs.

Injuries are a huge factor, if they start the year off with both Ekblad and Montour on LTIR for an extended period that could be tough to overcome.

Devon Levi is a well regarded prospect sure, but banking on a 21 year old goalie who's played 7 (!) games to lead your team to the playoffs while your backup is Eric Comrie seems like a really suspect plan.

I'm not the biggest Korpisalo fan but our goaltending situation seems to be getting a lot more flak, which seems crazy to me.

With the absolute destructive competition to get into the playoffs, do the Islanders make it?

They have such incredible goaltending its hard to count them out. The east is so stacked. Injuries are likely the biggest factor. The teams that can stay the healthiest are gonna make it.
Yeah, it's the goaltending that might tip it. Pretty incredible player they have there.

Their guys are getting older and their contract situation looks bad, but they've got some horses too that still have plenty to give. If they have an age related downfall I think that will come in a couple years, not yet.

Ottawa has a very young core. I can understand not wanting them in the next tier up. That being said this team could absolutely break out and be a top 4 team in the conference. They could also be on the outside looking in.

Obvious keys are:

1) Goaltending: I Think we need at least average goaltending to have a chance.

2) Norris: How strong does he come back? If he is the guy we saw the last time he played almost a full season we have a stacked top 6.

3) Coaching: I don't think we have the coach in place to get the best out of this roster but he's getting another chance. He needs to hold every player accountable. Not just the likes of Joseph, Kelly, Brannstrom and Kastelic. We have the depth to cut Chabot, Batherson or Tkachuk's ice-time if they not playing hard in all three zones. No more excuses.

4) Health: This applies to every team but especially a young one like ours with no history of actually getting it done.

I hope the pundits keep penciling us in as also-rans. Let's play with a chip on our shoulder. Shaping up to be an interesting year.
