So, as a leafs fan and Byfield owner in a very deep keeper league who works the eaaaaaarly morning shift I don’t get to watch 55 very much. He looks vastly improved though. Kind of sad to see him get less than 13 minutes of total ice time. Any reason for that? Seen it happen a few other times on the scoresheet

I don't think he gets much PK or PP time.

Great win. We looked very strong, with game plan, all lines deliver. QB needs some more ice time, put him on 1st PP line instead of PL. Fiala silently colletcing points but he is not at his level....every single game some bad penalty or costly mistake. Good for Kempe he scored non empty netter for a difference.

I def. got nervous after not scoring at the end of the 2nd and wrapping up that shitty powerplay with a too-many-men but props to them righting the ship for once

dominant performance otherwise, nothing else to be grumpy about tonight

On that same note they Kings set the new club record for "most one timer opportunities not taken" on that PP.

He averages a little over 2 min PP toi on the season if my stats are correct on fantrax
I think the lines get a little jumbled because Anze spends a lot of time on both PK and PP1 and Kempe is also PP1 and Byfield gets cleanup on PP2. I think Byfield's regular shift gets pushed back at times to let Kopi and Kempe recover from special teams duties. Don't have data to prove it, just something I have noticed. Especially with the PK, Byfield ends up sitting a bit.

Byfield being made to sit a shift or two throughout the game so kempe and Kopitar can rest actually makes sense with how much they play on special teams. I had honestly not really thought about that.

Anyways it’s just nice to see him looking vastly improved. Still some work to do but he looks great right now which I’m stoked about as a fantasy owner. I’m sure y’all are even happier to see him playing well

Most amusing thing about last night's game....

TSN - Kings are an elite team, they won 2 cups, rebuilt and are back to being elite, one of the top teams, hard to play against, yes has a question in net, but overall, one of the top teams in the league.

This board - OMG Kings suck....they abandoned the rebuild, they are a paper tiger, they won't win....etc...

Last night was a good solid game, against a good team....they have to build on that and keep it going,

Nice to see Kaliyev rip one in addition to the hard work.

He makes it look so easy sometimes huh? Pucks bouncing everywhere, few broken plays, finally he's just got a clear look and says f*** it and boom.

That was some shift. QB looking so much more comfortable and confident.

The funniest part was like after 2 min of dominating the KINGS CLEAR IT THEMSELVES and then waltz right back in and pick up where they left off until the end of the period

I agree with you - But it's crazy we can say this about a guy who is on pace for 106 points and that's with an abysmal/unsustainable 4.6% shooting percentage.

I was also surprised to see he only has 6 PIMs - Probably just feels like he takes more penalties than he does because they're usually REALLY bad penalties lol.

Separately... Trevor freaking Moore man sheesh, what a player. That play to set up the Danault goal was sweet and he easily could've had a goal or two himself last night.

Todd McLellan is an awful coach. That’s your reason.

Whilst I don’t prescribe to the view that ‘we suck’, I certainly don’t agree with TSN saying we are Elite. Given they say most years that this year the Leafs will win, they don’t do a particularly good job of assessing teams. They frequently pump the Leafs tires and saying we are Elite is how they excuse the Leafs being dominated so badly. We are a very good side that beat a very over rated (by Canadian media) Leafs team.

That said if Kempe finds his top form, PLD settles, Talbot stays fit , Clarke gets into the lineup and AK47/QB continue this seasons development curve we may well be Elite by the play-offs. Lots of ‘ifs‘ though and we need most of them to hit.

I'm pretty pessimistic about a lot of things re: the team right now but it's also pretty telling that we're not exactly firing on all cylinders and still 5-2-2.

as a confirmed optimist and long time denier of the reality around me (except for kings hockey yay) i have to summarize last nights game as simply toronto didnt show up. we showed up with a vengeance however. but i dont really think alot can be figured out about our team on this basis of this game alone. still, it was entertaining to watch what happens with our team in the best possible case.

I'm pretty sure I saw Kaliyev score....crazy to think he wasn't banned to the AHL all season.

I mean Kempe, Kopitar, and Byfield average 6’3 and 210 lbs. I wouldn’t want to be caught against them during the long change curse of the second period.
Watching that line both this season and last season in person is really fun. Watching on television doesnt portray just how hard they are to handle for opposing dmen. Their combined size, Byfield and Kempes speed and Kopitars possession is a tough combo. They support each other in a way that doesnt allow much offense for the opposing forwards heading into the Kings zone either.
The only teams that seem to handle it have big dmen like Vegas or teams with efficient breakouts like Boston.

Well the truth is somewhere in between, me thinks.

Unfortunately its black & white here. After a loss a few just can’t put things into perspective.

While its always unlikely to come out strong after a long road trip, the Kings gave them no room to breathe last night. They cut them off at every pass and made them know that their tired legs were even heavier than they thought.

Matt Roy in particular was masterful last night, bossing shift after shift. It was one of the very few games in recent memory where the Kings dictated the pace of the game from start to finish, especially away from the puck.

Yep, it's not just TSN though, I get to watch most of the opposing teams broadcast, I haven't seen one not say LA is in the top tier of the league etc....but truth is somewhere in the middle, definite holes to work out...but man...if someone comes on here reads this board, you would think LA hasn't won a game in 5 years

I agree with all of this, especially your cantankerous pessimism!!!

There is a lot to be encouraged by, driven mainly by the younger guys taking a step - it gives us depth that can be relied on. Talbot has also been great, I posted previously that he may well do well for us and that his health was the biggest risk (still is). Englund has also exceeded my expectations.

However to be called Elite we need to start winning games against the other Elite sides and be dominant in our division over everyone bar Vegas (I’ll take .500 there atm). That includes the Oilers because as a team they are definitely not Elite. I’ve no doubt we will make the play offs but an Elite side will be seeded. It’s very early, so I’m enjoying the ride for now.

You think TSN panelist really know a damn thing about LA? Johnson keep referring to LA as a top defensive team, something that has not really been the case for a while.

Since Sportsnet won the NHL national rights TSN has been a total joke when they talk about anything outside of Ontario.

Love when LA beats the leafs, they are shoved down all canadians and it's the best when they suck.

LA's forward depth is definately top in the league IMO. D has some issues but is pretty solid group.

Yes agreed, its terrible.

Solid win and a good way to kick off the roadie. Liked QB's game lastnight. Maybe a little extra hop with family and friends in attendance.

Anytime you beat the Leafs, it's more than welcomed.

Jeff O' Neill continues to balloon. He's going to engulf that entire TSN panel soon enough.
