This is the other kick in the balls. The team played to well earlier in the year to pick high enough in the draft where you can realistically expect to get a true stud. We are right smack back in the black-hole.

If nothing changes, it's a mid-round pick for "Yank" to poorly evaluate and/or "Nelly" and "Muzz" to poorly develop.

Or even worse, it's traded by a desperate GM trying to make the playoffs to save his job.
Yup, 100%.

Pretty rough watching Kopitar struggle like that.

If he's hitting that wall this year things are gonna get bad.

Center depth was supposed to be our strength. But Dubois sucks, Kopitar is aging out, Lizotte is injured.

He is 36 years old with over 1400 NHL games, all as a 1C, all usually drawing the other teams top centers. It was just to much to ask for him to keep playing at his previous levels, playing this many minutes with this many miles on his odometer.

Just totally insane we used 2, 5 and 11 picks over a 3 calendar year period and never found his replacement. Kopitar should be playing the role of a valuable secondary or depth piece on a team. He would still be a hell of a player in that role, he's sadly a net negative now still being expected to be a 1C now, and no fault of his own.

But hey, look on the bright side, two more years at $7m with a full NMC. Now thanks to the ineptness of the management of this team we have to see arguably the greatest player in franchise history struggle with unrealistic expectations and a huge cap hit. Just imagine what he will look like at 37 and 38.

Thanks again to Lucky, Blakey, Nelly, Muzz and Yank. Hell of a job, gentleman.

Not even mad at this loss, it was expected soon as the schedule came out. B2B with a day/night game, plus traveling from Carolina, against a team who hasn't played since Sat. I was surprised it was 2-1 in the 3rd.

The only thing that stinks more is the skunk smell on my patio after 2 of them got in a fight . they showed more effort than the Kings did. 😬

This team needs an enema!

Only thing preventing that here is Todd.

No it's not.

They don't have anyone else even remotely close to being a 1C and do everything that Kopitar is expected to do for this team.

McLellan is not coaching well at all, I would venture to say he has probably lost the team and it wouldn't shock me if he is gone by the end of this week, but this organizations problems go well beyond Todd McLellan. This is just not a very good roster, they have a bunch of solid secondary pieces but not a single star player.

Yeah there’s a 0% chance this doesn’t happen. Blake already burned a 1st for rentals last year when the roster was worse on paper and when nobody thought they were in all-in mode.

The only question left is what ELSE is he gonna throw in with the 1st to get that coveted vet rental in a few months? Kaliyev? Spence? Clarke?

They don't need anyone to do what Kopitar has done for so long. They aren't winning anything, they need to embrace the inevitable change and accept the diffuculties that come with an end of an era.

Now, that should have been done in the last decade to take advantage of the good will reside from the Cups. Imagine the new fans created during that run and what may have turned into a passing fancy.

They aren't supposed to be contending. This is when the young players should be supplanting bridge acquisitions, not tenured Cup vets - because they are supplanting anybody, they are being groomed to support instead of star.

Quality players and picks turned into quick patchwork. Such a wasted opportunity.

Nobody should be surprised Pavelski scored a goal like that. Lucky bounce and it goes right to him. When it rains...

Joe Pavelski is a modern day Luc Robitaille, people used to say the same things about Luc. Pavelski was not quite good as Luc in his prime, but has been able to hang on at a high level a bit longer.

It's because both guys just have a nose for loose pucks and finding space in what is usually a congested era of the ice. This type of player isn't usually effected by age the way a lot of players are. Pavelski isn't lucky, he's just an incredibly cerebral hockey player, with all-time great instincts. I think he may be able to play until he's 45 if he really wants to.

Well, this road trip was certainly a rousing success. Way to follow up the record setting road winning streak with an atrocious road swing.
In the end you can't escape the law of averages.

At this point it looks like we need to judge by the home record (not good) rather than the crazy outlier of road trip to begin the season.

Do Doughty and Kopi have brakes on their skates or are they just old meat?

Trev Lewis isn't shining as brightly as he did in October either.
