Gulls win 4-2 and Suchanek continues to impress me. I really do think he’s gonna get a contract

I expect us trading Alexander at the deadline and signing Suchanek afterwards.

He‘s my darkhorse for making the NHL in the future as he put up good/great numbers on every level.

Tracey helps earn the second point with the game winning shoutout goal.

Suchanek doing well again. Stopped 32 out of 34 and did his job in the shootout. Hope he earns a contract from the Ducks at the end of the season.
I have a question for Gulls viewers.

How much of the Gulls surge and Suchanek's success is tied together. Is it all because of Suchanek's key saves or have the Gulls improved this much defensively and on even strength?

It was really worrying through the first 20ish games, I think the Gulls were at .27ppct at one point, just abysmal. Highlights made it seem they got scored on at will with no push back whatsoever, often surrendering 3+ goals in a row.

I've said it before, for this franchise's future the Gulls success this season is more important than the Ducks.

I haven't watched the Gulls, but I've been keeping track of them via weekly production updates on prospects, reading the Defend the Nest recaps (when he does them), and reading/asking posters who watch the Gulls questions such as @The Midnight Burrito .

The Gulls went 2-10-3 in the first 15 games. After winning the first two games of the season, they proceeded to go on a 13-game win streak.

Fortunes changed when two things happened: 1) Suchanek called up and 2) De Leo finally returned to the line after being injured in pre-season. Game 16 recap by official website: here.

De Leo's return put a lot of forwards into better groupings/lines, which triggered the offense. De Leo playing on the top line has been instant offense and shelters the other lines. In a previous post, I denoted how the Gulls' 3rd line was on fire on a Dec 17th post, from the Prospects thread.

Since Tracey has returned from injury, he's been playing on the third line with Gaucher and Caulfield for the past seven games.

Past 7 games: Tracey-Gaucher-Caulfield, 3rd line
- Tracey: 4g + 4a = 8 pts, +6 rating
- Gaucher: 3g + 3a = 6 pts,+5 rating
- Caulfield: 2g + 5a = 7 pts, +4 rating

Before being a part of this line
- Tracey: 10 games, 1g + 1a = 2 pts, and -4 rating
- Gaucher: 16 games, 2g + 2a = 4 pts, and -4 rating
- Caulfield: 16 games, 3g + 0a = 3 pts, and -4 rating

Unfortunately, the Gulls eventually got tagged with multiple injuries to the forward group such that they had to go sign an ECHL forward to play. Yeah, it was that drastic a situation with the Gulls. That's why the Gulls have been having a roller coaster ride of wins and losses after stringing together a 6-2-2 late Nov to Dec run.

As of Jan 8, Suchanek has posted a 0.930 Sv % and a 2.14 GAA. His record is 4-2-1. The team has won twice since Jan 8th with Suchanek in net for both games.

Suchanek is by the far our most likely goalie prospect to make a spectacular save. He's an energizer bunny in there. But again, he's small, and I'd worry that at the NHL level those open corners would be pretty juicy targets.

Given the injuries to Perreault and Regenda, I'd say Tracey maybe the most likely forward call-up. Caulfield and Gaucher have been playing well but they both seem pretty green.
