Idk considering it's practice putting two kids together who probably have to learn a lot of the same things just seems like it would be easier to coach

If that's the case, then shouldn't the two kids together who have to learn a lot of the same things be Minty and Luneau? LaCombe knows how to play defense better than those two and showed it consistently all off-season.

I mean on a larger scale, sure. But this is one practice so it's possible there's just something specific they wanted to work on.

My point is that I wouldn't read into it for a practice... It's not like it's a game day or anything

There are probably a lot of things they do in practice that we aren't privy to. I don't think it's worth reading into too much.

If any two of LaCombe, Mintyukov, and Luneau sit in the press box when the regular season starts, then one has to question their development process.

This isn't one practice though. These are the same d-pairings from a previous practice this week.

Vaak over Lacombe is gigantic yikes if that's going to reflect on game day.
Eventually a young dman will be traded. I’ve always felt that it will be lacombe sooner or later. He wasn’t drafted by our gm. Maybe they are seeing if it’s possible that vaak can earn his keep in the nhl lineup and make lacombe expandable sooner than later

In the remainder of the season when we acquired him, I thought that Vaaks could develop into a solid, defensive minded 2nd-pair guy. Then he got hurt - twice. If he's healthy, I'd like to see him get one more shot at it.

LaCombe is the only defenseman we have that plays the way he does. I can't see him being traded because Pat didn't draft him.

I agree, we shouldn’t trade him now. But I have to think he’s behind minty, zell, Warren and Luneau as far as longterm plans. But who knows

Nesterenko would've been a better choice at third line than Bo, IMO.

Much more skilled.
Long term I agree. But nesty is to unpolished and takes to many ticky tack penalties right now. Also we might try and see with grouxl if he can show anything to build up any kind of trade value. Same for lacombe. To many dmen waiting in the wings for lacombe to be here longterm probably.
