You want to put him in a position to succeed….

Maybe bring back
Vatrano mctavish strome
Killorn carlsson terry
Lundy zegras colangelo

So are we just hoping they change their minds about Zegras being a wing? I feel like we've heard the front office say now multiple times they see Zegras at wing. Maybe if there is an injury they put him at center for a few games, but seems like his spot has been defined.

They say this for 1. That’s how they see zegras 2. When it comes to trade him we can say zegras is insistent on playing center. And that wasn’t going to happen for the ducks. That’s my opinion of course

The truth is.. The PV and Cronin think Z does not have the defensive IQ to become a good 2 way center. It's the reason why he is wing

Not really. It’s just they can see the writing on the wall, and that being he’d have to beat out McTavish and Carlsson for that role.

I don’t think it has anything to do with IQ. If anything I’d say IQ is a huge upside for Z. It’s the taking too many chances and shortcuts defensively to go on the offensive. His IQ is why I think he will be perfectly adequate in our zone and a stud in the offensive zone without taking shortcuts. Putting him on the wing though let’s him take the chances a bit more and have a bit less responsibility.

I posted it in the GDT: I can't speak to what goes on directly in the room, but the real cause for alarm is that there seems to be no leaders in the room (maybe Rico if he comes back in the offseason). Name a captain? There's no obvious selection, not even a Getzlaf-type where it may have been premature but who at least showed flashes he'd grow into the role (and also got to watch an all-time great leader in Scott Niedermayer conduct his business).

I actually think that Gudas should wear the C for the next two seasons. That'll buy time for the youths to grow and maybe someone will organically be the leader type. I still think Mac can eventually be that leader type. He's been the leader on his WJC teams and his time with PBO/Hamilton season.

For the life of me, I don't understand why Verbeek didn't want Getzlaf around the team when Getz wanted to be a part of the team. Especially when Verbeek didn't want to hand over Captaincy to anyone is when Getz could have been that great resource to bounce advice from. Instead, Verbeek waits a year and then gives Getz a player dev coordinator, which has nothing to do with the NHL and AHL clubs, if I'm recalling right b/c it deals with non-pro prospects.

I know Getz is gonna be part of the 2026 hockey Canada mgmt team as a "player relations advisor". Here's a quote from Getz on what he can bring to the mgmt group:

"I've sat in those locker rooms a short time ago with a lot of these guys, been on the ice against them," said the 38-year-old, who retired following the 2021-22 season. "Bridge that gap and manage the expectation between the two in understanding what the modern player needs as opposed to more of the old-school type mentality."

Getz has first hand experience of both old-school mentality and the modern player (Terry, Jones, Steel, Lundy, Z, and Drysdale).

Yes, the ongoing joke of this board. He was mentioned on this very page of the thread, but everyone always (rightly) forgets him:

I kind of purposely left him out lol I think they are going to find a way to not play him at all costs. But I guess he slots in at 4th line if they must

looks like there were over 16k people there last night at 95% capacity, not bad at all given the state of the team and on weekday night. Guess everyone wanted a blanket? lol
I was there for the blanket, didn't get one (but not because they were out) it didn't feel as crowded as those numbers and I didn't see as many Minny fans as I thought I would (which is another reason I went to that game over Chicago) but people did start emptying out a lot earlier than normal so 🤷‍♂️

Edit: my date at one point mentioned how empty the place felt compared to the last time she went.
