Speculation: 2023-24 Roster Thread

If I'm a guy like McT, Fowler, Gudas or Killer, I'm calling for a team meeting tomorrow, Jan 1, and stepping into that leadership role. No one has been good enough to be let off the hook but a little personal responsibility will also go a long way.

Can't continue to have half ass efforts. Losing is one thing, but getting boat raced and out classed just isn't acceptable.

Hes earning it, which is nice to see. I don't think its a line combo thing, but couldn't hurt right now.

Fowler and Killorn are the last guys to be calling a team meeting about effort. If they want to improve effort on the team, I’d suggest buying a mirror, both are certainly being paid enough where they could afford one.

You kinda missed the part about "No one has been good enough but...". The only guys really putting in the effort arent the guys to lead the team because those are the guys struggling to stay in the lineup.

In the Fowler ice time debate, people underrate the impact that dumping so much of the hard work onto Cam has on other defensemen's ability to be effective.

I'm fully on board with putting meat and potatoes hard workers on the top lines. Our top 6 guys spend way too little time winning battles or in front of the net.

Question is when Leo gets back in a few weeks from now, where is Z going to go? I just don't think they see Z as the 1C or even 2C, and he would be there now if they did.

This is the big question for me going forward: what to do with Zegras? He clearly is a good player and has a lot to offer. But Carlsson and McTavish are the top 2 centers. That is a fact. Based on that fact, I can only see 3 options: Z centers a 3rd line, Z plays on the wing, or Z is traded.

Trading him seems dumb so it's 3rd line center or wing. Personally, 3 scoring lines sounds good to me. But my guess is the Ducks will do everything they can to make him a winger. In that case, he should be on McTavish's left wing. I just don't get why they haven't been trying it.

I think that unless Zegras is on the wing, we are 100% out of top 6 wingers.

One can easily make a case that we currently have zero legit top line players as well. I think all of our guys are currently borderline top line even when they’re clicking.

I'm not fond of Strome at center. He's a complementary winger.

This is the issue working against the Ducks this season and the next few. They have good players who are just playing higher in the lineup then they are ready for or able to play. If everyone was healthy right now, I would still say their are zero 1st liners. Many player have the potential but they are not their yet.

The top two centers are set: McTavish and Carlsson. The Ducks just have to wait until they are those top players. Terry and Zegras are two of the four top 6 wingers going forward. The Ducks just have to wait with them also. IMO no prospects the Ducks have the ability or timeframe to help the Ducks' top 6. Trades are the only solution to push players down to their proper lines. But trades have to wait for the right opportunity. Probably not for awhile.
