When Lundy comes back, the 4th line will be a revolving door depending on opponent:

Zegras - Leo - Terry
Vatrano - McTavish - Strome
Killorn - Henrique - Leason
Johnston/McGinn - Lundestrom/Carrick - Silf

For the sake of speed, I'd love to go with McGinn - Lundestrom - Carrick/Silf the rest of the way
I think a couple guys get moved before the deadline too....

Mac's been in a 6-game scoring slump and finally broke out with 3 assists in this game.

My hopes for Mac this season was to improve his offensive production, including more goal scoring.

2022-23 (rookie season, 80 games): 17g + 26a = 43 pts; 0.54 ppg
2023-24 (27 games): 10g + 14a = 24 pts; 0.89 ppg

Next season, I hope Mac takes another step in focusing on his defense. He should be even bigger and improved endurance (crossing fingers).

I love Mac's offense, but that defensive bar should be in the negative. The report doesn't match the eye test.
Its funny cause a lot of people thought mctavish would be a 2 way type guy... but i feel like his defense has left a lot to desire.... and a lot of people felt Zegras would be an offense 1 trick pony, but he has seemed to buy into the complete game idea and has been fantastic.

Seems like every shift, hes making a good play defensively/ or in the right position.

It's been great to see Zegras improve the defensive side of his game, for sure. But let's not forget that McTavish is two years younger so he has plenty of time to (hopefully) catch up.

Wow. Someone using a singular game and expanding that to Mac's career just fits how posts feel like this season.

Also, this is Zegras' fourth season in the league whereas it's only Mac's second season in the league.

Last year, Mac deferred often offensively and got off the ice on-time. This year, Mac's upped his offensive game and is staying out longer on shifts than he should be. With Mac's offensive confidence up this year, from 0.54 ppg to 0.89 ppg rate. Next year, he can really hone in on his defense as he gets another off-season to bulk up, improve endurance, and his skating.

that was more of a season outlook, he’s definitely been a bit sus defensively. He’s also takin a lot of what I’d call lazy/ bad penalties.

Sounds like a youth in his sophomore season doing trying to do too much, including staying out longer than an expect shift length. Eakins would bench a youth for doing that if it cost us a goal or a game - ask Zegras.

I do like Zegras' backchecking (could be a byproduct of Eakins since Zegras missed training camp), but I think you've omitted a huge factor in your argument... what about Z's offense? Unlike you, though, I wasn't worried because I knew it would eventually come. Since Z's return, he's scored a point per game in two games.

  • 2023-24
    • Zegras: 14 games, 4 pts (2g +2a), 0.29 ppg rate, and -3 rating
      Pts + Plus/minus = +1
    • Mac: 27 games, 24 pts (10g + 14a), 0.89 ppg rate, and -8 rating
      Pts + Plus/minus = +16

Yeah, Mac had a bad defensive game last night, but still came out on top as he had 3 assists and was +2 rating. I have no problem calling out a bad defensive game, but at least I'm not making it out to be a problem that consistently exists such that he's the second coming of Daniel Sprong.

Speaking of trying to do too much, I saw this on reddit from Witty Dreams:

Gm 33, Mac Stat (Strome, Vat).png

Guess we can add an extra goal for Vatrano and an assist to Strome under "With McTavish". That is a mind boggling stat.

What are you even talking about?

There wasn’t an “argument” that I was making, simply stating that mctavish 2way game hasn’t been as great as advertised since becoming a pro…. Not even saying it as a bad thing, just an observation and it wasn’t last game I was talking about, it was a general comment this year.

And I’ve literally never been worried about zegras production…. I think you are just making stuff up in your head again

Not sure if it belongs in the roster thread (it doesn't) but hearing Hazy and to a lesser extent Ahlers be so blatantly open about the disparity in penalties during the broadcasts--which again, isn't new--makes me wonder if there's been some shift inside the organization about addressing it.

I hope hope hope they realize that playing along and hoping it gets better isn't going to work, that the way to have the rules be enforced equally is to ignore the rules.

^^

I think someone high up in the org makes a well worded/bold statement, and takes the fine. Yeah, some will see it as whining, but personally I think it might put the refs under a little more scrutiny. Sure, there's a chance it could make it worse, I suppose.

In the extreme case, If worst comes to worst, the fans can start littering the ice on a regular basis with the bad calls/non calls and start getting more attention across the league and in the media. Sure, take the minor bench penalty for it, is it really gonna matter? (I know, not really a good idea, but it's fun to dream).

Also Zegras was a passing wizard, but he has become more of a shooter, imo. Still he dishes nice assists tho. Leo came in as a playmaking center but imo his shot has been more noticable.

There are many such cases, not sute why it happens

But certainly, "one-trick-ponies" rearly or never make it.

He’s been on fire with stick lifts

Make a trade, mix up the lines, do something. We keep losing in the same way.

Making a trade now is probably not prudent unless something amazing falls into their lap. Mixing the lines is clearly what needs to happen. Strome and Killorn should not be on their current lines. Henrique has been playing much better as of late.

Vatrano-Zegras-Terry
Killorn-McTavish-Henrique

or

Henrique-Zegras-Terry
Killorn-McTavish-Vatrano

Looking forward to next season, the Ducks obviously need to add to their top 6. Probably two forwards to be truly competitive.

Tough for Zegras to make passes when he doesn't play with snipers. Terry needs to skate around with the puck to get off his shot. Killorn was never known as shooter. It's too bad that we couldn't have acquire a younger sniper like Debrincat because he would have been ideal for Zegras (at least in the offensive zone ...)

There is always Nylander or Stamkos this summer.
