The authentics are already claiming Couturier is another pampered core member from the Giroux era.

Quite a chunk of the fanbase deserves this team and what they'll be.

Wonder when they'll ask who the common denominators are in all these "pampered" players, from McCrimmon to Lindros to Richards/Carter to Giroux to Couturier to Hayes and Provorov, and Gauthier to, inevitably, Michkov.

Messing around in CapFriendly and learned that Cal Peterson is the leader in cost per save for the second season in a row, being given a little more than $33k for every save he’s made since last season. Pretty cool!
What a great gig. Still not as sweet at Bryz's deal. Would love to be bought out of a contract like his!

It's an interesting situation.

I don't disagree with what the agent is saying, or that Coots is pissed at being scratched.

With the agent coming out, it does feel a bit like calling dad when things don't go your way. Coots is not entitled to play every night. I think he absolutely should be playing every night. But I'm not the coach, and he doesn't have that right.

I'm also 100% aware that scratching the captain and longest serving player is a fast-track to ending a coach's tenure.

For all of Torts' claims that he communicates with his players, the view from the other side is that he doesn't communicate at all. Maybe he's having all these conversations in his head.

Going back to before, I think the fact that Couts, let alone his agent, said anything remotely close to this should be telling about how much this feels out of line or bullshit. Couts has always been the quiet/silent type with the media about this kind of stuff and would lead the team internally. To express this outward, to the point of even his agent getting involved, says there is more here than we know and it's gonna be ugly.

The whole aftermath could probably easily be avoided by Torts saying something like "Listen, you're the captain and leader of this team. I need more from you down this stretch, so I'm going to sit you for one night. It's not a punishment; it's just to give you a night off and a chance to reset."

Just some kind of honest conversation with context.

I agree with you - the fact that both Coots and the agent spoke out so strongly suggests it's not a good situation.

Guys such as Burnside are idiots looking for clicks. The long term matters more than a single game or making the POs. Lizard Brain doing Jedi games on Couturier clearly shows to the players how Tortorella can’t be trusted. He’ll pat you on the back one game and stab you there the next. That’s not effective coaching or good for the organization long term.

In the last 10 games, he's been a part of 34 different line combinations (at least a minute of TOI together). Like... how the f*** is he supposed to gel with anyone if it always means he has someone new on his line each time he's out there.

For comparison, someone like Elias Lindholm, who is generally considered (at least at one point) to be a two-way forward, but is struggling this year, has only been a part of 24 different line combos in the last 10 games. Dubois is another struggling center and he only has 27 different lines.

Not only is he bouncing around a lot, but being places often with bad wingers kills anything good he has.
